Diontae Johnson, a Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, has taken responsibility for his viral missing fumble after being accused of lacking energy in the team's 16-10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Johnson was keen on the play before the fumble, but the pass was declared incomplete after officials determined he did not reach the ground to finish the catch. On the next play, the wide receiver essentially stood still and failed to block anyone at all as if he were participating in a walk-through, while also missing a fumble that had occurred in his direction.

After being chastised for apparently making no attempt to save the possession, Diontae Johnson maintains he didn't see the fumble that landed right in front of him during the Steelers' victory over the Bengals on Sunday. In the first quarter of Pittsburgh's game against Cincinnati, the Pittsburgh wide receiver fumbled the ball late. If running back Jaylen Warren was bumped into a wall of orange jerseys after attempting a running play, Johnson simply watched as the ball struck the ground and turned around as if the game was over.

Following Johnson's 20-10 loss to the Jaguars, however, ProFootballTalk.com announced that Johnson was brought back after questioning the officials' legitimacy. Following the game, Johnson said, 'They were calling some stupid stuff.' They should be banned from calling threatening, making worse, bad calls, and stuff like that.' That's how pissed I am. Mitchell Trubisky's job as the Pittsburgh Steelers' starting quarterback may not have been enough to pay him. Rather, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, it was a halftime clash with receiver Diontae Johnson that resulted in rookie Kenny Pickett's ascension to the top of the depth chart. In the second half of Pittsburgh's Week 4 loss to the New York Jets, Trubisky was obseted in favour of Picket. According to Gerry Dulac of the Post-Gazette, he would have remained under center after halftime but then got into a tense dispute with Johnson, who felt he was being ignored. In the first half, Johnson, himself, cancelled a pass that resulted in an intercept for Trubisky. Trubisky yelled back at Johnson in the locker room on October 3 and was warned by the coaching staff that Pickett would be under center for the final 30 minutes of play. Pittsburgh (2-4) lost 24-20 after Pickett threw three interceptions while completing ten of 13 passes.
