Richard Clifford Taylor (born 28 January 1943) is an English singer best known as the guitarist and founding member of the Pretty Things. Taylor was a early bassist for the Rolling Stones but left the band to restart his studies at Sidcup Art College.
He began the Pretty Things in September 1963.
He now lives on the Isle of Wight, England.
Career
Taylor was born in Livingstone Hospital, Dartford, and attended Dartford Grammar School. The Rolling Stones formed in July 1962 when Taylor, Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards' three-piece group Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys joined Brian Jones and Ian Stewart's Rollin' Stones joined Sidcup Art College. Taylor started playing lead guitar in the band but then switched to bass to accommodate Jones. Taylor, a member of the Cincinnati band, and his ex bandmates also advertised an advertisement looking for another bassist. Bill Wyman responded and replaced him as the Rolling Stones' bassist in December 1962.
Taylor formed the Pretty Things with singer Phil May in 1963 and resumed his preferred guitar position once more. After the debut of their concept album S.F., he left the Pretty Things in 1969. Sorrow. Taylor and disbanded in 1976, the band regrouped with Taylor in 1979 to announce Cross Talk. Taylor stayed with the Pretty Things until they broke up in 2018.
Taylor co-produced Hawkwind's debut album, on which he also performed guitar, as well as Cochise's first album and Skin Alley's first album, in addition to his appearances. Auntie Pus' contribution to punk rock was a recording. Taylor performed guitar with the English post-punk band the Mekons in the second half of the 1980s. George Paulus' St. George Records released him in Chicago with Andre Williams.
