She gained notoriety when she swam 28 miles around Manhattan in 1975 and became infamous for her 102 mile swim in 1979. The film is based on Diana Nyad's book Find a Way, and it follows the 64-year-old swimming legend on her quest to finish a 110-mile open ocean swim from Cuba to Florida. Bonnie Stoll, 60, is a sailing team's first woman to complete the swim without the help of a shark cage.
