The sexual abuse cover-up that could be even bigger than the Larry Nassar scandal - with half a million young Americans at risk of predatory coaches

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 21, 2024
As many as half a million young Americans are potentially being exposed to predatory coaches on pool decks and in locker rooms - in a secret scandal that threatens to eclipse that of disgraced gymnastics coach Larry Nassar. As recently as last month, USA Swimming and retired coach Scott MacFarland attempted to dismiss a federal lawsuit brought by a swimmer in the 1980s and early 90s. Sarah Ehekircher claims MacFarland groomed and raped her when she was a vulnerable young teenager, and went on to abuse her over seven years. A magistrate judge in Colorado denied the attempt to throw the case out - moving Ehekircher closer to the day in court she has been seeking for decades.

Daisy Ridley recalled a 'trippy' encounter she had with legendary long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad at the recent Hollywood premiere of her film Young Woman and the Sea, in which she portrays legendary swimmer Gertrude 'Trudy' Ederle. 'It was so surreal. I was washing my hands in the bathroom, waiting for my people, and she came in,' the 32-year-old Star Wars alum told THR on Tuesday. 'It was the most surreal thing. I kept going, "This is so trippy, this is so trippy. You are real. You did the thing, and I just played the person that did the thing." But she was very encouraging because she could see that I had trained really hard. And that's wonderful [to hear], particularly from the sports people that were there last night.

JOAN COLLINS: I'm an Oscar voter, but I have to ask: Why are so many new films dark and troubling - what happened to glamour?

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 13, 2024
Hollywood is a twitter from early January to mid-March. In La La Land, it's awards season. A pair of stylists fly in a preview of gowns for the 'female actors' (which I also reject in favour of the gracious and feminine 'actress' as well as some of the more flamboyant'male actors.' They arrive from New York, Paris, and London, working frantically to make their client the epitome of glamour, not glamour, but instead beauty and 'trendiness,' rather than glamour.

The Royal Hotel's Review: Welcome to Down Under's most popular bar. Warning to any parents of backpackers - this intense thriller will fuel your fears! Viner is a writer who writes about British Viners

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 3, 2023
For those parents who have recently waved their children off for a year in the midst of Australia's Work & Travel program, the best advice is to give The Royal Hotel a strategic shakedown. My own daughter participated in the program for three months on a 50,000-acre sheep farm in New South Wales as part of a year Down Under, and even though she has long been home and remembers the love of the big killer magpies, I still felt a dry-mouthed personal investment in this enthralling film.
