The single debuted at number two in Canada and at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, ranked second in Canada and at number 14. "I Believe" and a remake of Melissa Manchester's "Don't Cry Out Loud" were also included in the single. She recorded her debut album in between Idol's summer tour stops.
Blue Skies, DeGarmo's debut album, was released on December 7, 2004, with opening week sales of 47,000. The album debuted at number 52 on the Billboard 200, including songs by future American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, Desmond Child, Adam Shankman, and Andreas Carlsson. The album had sold 168,000 copies with no advertising as of fall 2008. In November 2004, the lone single from the CD, "Emotional," debuted on radio, peaking at number 54 on the Mediabase Pop Chart. In 2005, she toured alone in favor of Blue Skies in the spring and summer. She recorded a song for the soundtrack of Disney's Ice Princess while at the same time. During the climactic ice skating scene in the film, Desmond Child's "Reaching for Heaven" can be heard. RCA and DeGarmo parted in June 2005 after RCA and DeGarmo parted ways. DeGarmo was honoured at the Georgia Music Hall Of Fame Awards ceremony on September 17, 2005; the award honors Georgia artists who have a long and successful career.
In 2007, DeGarmo debuted a pop/R&B album, but she had to drop out of the project in order to return to her country music roots. DeGarmo's music never appeared on the charts, and DeGarmo moved to other collaborators. DeGarmo wrote "Good Goodbye" in March 2012 for use with her character on The Young and the Restless. It was a hit on iTunes and was included on her May 2012 EP Live to Love. Fans were invited to vote on two versions of the film on the American Idol website after establishing a music video for "Good Goodbye." The winning video was released on iTunes.
Gemini, DeGarmo's second album, was released on August 2, 2019 at a surprise concert at Sony Hall. In the summer of 2020, DeGarmo performed and streamed a live concert of Gemini, ultimately winning the 2020 BroadwayWorld Award for Best Streamed Concert.
