Anna Maxwell-Martin reveals her weird food phobia and how she has to beg other actors to keep the dish away from set

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 3, 2024
The Line Of Duty star, 47, can't bear to be around sandwiches, mayonnaise - and even open fridges. She has blamed the food phobia on being 'sick, sick, sick as a dog' during her pregnancies with her two daughters, as well as her exacting standards for fridges which mean she can rule out an entire hotel room if the fridge gives her the ick. 'If I'm on a set and sandwiches are brought on - it's hard for me to even say that word - I'd have to say "Get that out",' Anna admitted to The Sun of her sandwich fear. 'Sorry other actors, you're not eating. Or if you want to eat, step outside - but not in here.'

Sir Ian McKellen lost his balance and went 'head first' into an audience before letting out a 'blood-curdling scream' during a West End performance last night. The 85-year-old actor tumbled off the front of the stage just before the interval of Player Kings at the Noël Coward theatre in London and was taken to hospital. The crowd were evacuated from the theatre at about 8pm while paramedics were called - and ticket holders were told the evening show had been cancelled. Show bosses said that Sir Ian 'will make a speedy and full recovery' and is in 'good spirits' - but tonight's performance has also been cancelled so he can rest. Charlie Johnson, a journalist for the Kingston Courier who was in the audience, told ITV: 'As we approached the interval of the play, there was a fight scene going on. There were strobe lights and then it all went dark, at which point you could see the silhouette of Sir Ian come out from the wings. And the way the stage works at the Noel Coward is there's sort of a step down just as the stage meets the audience. I think what happened was he put his foot too far, sort of went off that initial step, at which point he lost his balance and pretty much just went head first into the audience. And within seconds a blood-curdling scream arose from the actor. He was clearly in a lot of pain, he was screaming 'help me'.'

How the King met his disgraced great-uncle for first time just a year before the former monarch's own cancer diagnosis: Charles, then 21, saw Edward VIII at his Paris home but hated 'dreadful American guests' and was 'relieved to escape' after 45 minutes

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 7, 2024
It was a visit to a disgraced former king meeting a popular future king. Prince Charles, the 21-year-old Prince Charles, visited his great-uncle, the erstwhile Edward VIII, at his Paris home in October 1970. In May 1972, the Duke of Windsor, then 76, was just a year away from being diagnosed with throat cancer that would later kill him. However, if Charles, who is now fighting his own cancer diagnosis, had hoped that Edward might be a kind of mentor, he would have been dissatisfied. For a few minutes, he later wrote an account of the duke's "most dreadful American visitors" and how he was'relieved to escape' his house after only 45 minutes. The meeting was portrayed by Derek Jacobi and Charles by Josh O'Connor in the third series of Netflix's The Crown (inset), in which Edward was portrayed by Derek Jacobi and Charles. Above: Charles outside the duke's home in May 1972, just weeks before his death, when the Queen visited Edward just weeks before his death. He was so sick that only the Queen saw him up close and personal.

CHRISTOPHER STEVENS reviews last night's TV: Even Morse would struggle to figure out this muddled mess

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 30, 2023
Morse CHRISTOPHER STEVENS: Good luck making sense of this one, Morse. We're in Oxford, and a murder has been committed, but whatever's going on, it's more confusing than a cryptic crossword in Chinese. The Following Events Are Based On A Pack Of Lies (BBC1) made me feel as though I was scrolling through cable channels and finding nothing that grabbed my attention for the first ten minutes. Multiple television screens showed a man in a black polo neck spouting about karma. A aspiring bridal designer pumped herself up for a haute couture sales show. Outside his caravan, a beer-sodden redneck American was grouching.

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Harry and Meghan are the only ones who indulge in frivolities

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 23, 2023
The American Security Services seldom indulge in frivolities, assuming that US police will protect them in California, Harry, and Meghan. However, William, who turned 41 on Wednesday, has been sent an unexpected birthday letter from the US Diplomatic Security Service, the State Department's men in black who protect visitors. The service tweeted: 'Happy birthday to the Prince of Wales!' A burly 'operative' with William and Kate is accompanied by a snapshot taken in Boston last year. Surely not an unsubtle dig at Harry and Meghan?Has King Charles abolished the quaint tradition of Royal Ascot chauffeurs waving glove puppets as they follow the carriage procession from Windsor Castle?

The new cast members of the Irish film Lucius, which is the son of Lucilla played by Connie Nielsen in the original 2000 film. A London opera ticket for £235?I'd rather go to Hull and back - so I did!

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 9, 2023
If you want a thrill at the opera, you only have to look at the ticket prices. I was shocked to my dismay when I learned front-row seats for Puccini's Turandot at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden cost £235. Which more accurately reflects what spian Derek Jacobi was raving about last week, when he said that theatre should be open to all and a portion of 'our blood and bones.' You can just hear 84-year-old Jacobi's rich intonation as he makes his plea, can't you? He was shocked to hear that West End prices were so high, and that exorbitance is making theatre-going a 'elitist' pursuit.
