Baldock was found dead on Wednesday last week after drowning in the pool of his villa in Greece. The 31-year-old had moved to Panathinaikos after seven seasons with Sheffield United. Alli and Baldock were team-mates at MK Dons between 2011 and 2015 and shared the turf 42 times - including in the famous 4-0 win over Manchester United in the EFL Cup in 2014.

LEWIS STEELE: Most of us set daily reminders in some shape or form, probably to put the bins out or to jog the memory with certain tasks at work. Dele Alli's daily reminder is slightly different, as the words 'World Cup 2026' pop up on his phone every morning at 11am. Despite not kicking a ball in a competitive game of football for nearly two years - his last minutes were in February 2023 during a brief loan spell at Turkish club Besiktas - Dele still believes in himself, which is the key word when charting his many highs and lows.

The former Premier League footballer, 31, had just moved to Athens to join Panathinaikos on a lucrative deal that would have seen him play for £1million-a-year until approaching his 35th birthday. But it could have been very different - as he admitted recently he almost trained to be a PE teacher after getting all As at GCSE. George was found dead on Wednesday night after his fiancé raised the alarm because he didn't answer his mobile phone - and had reportedly been dead for at least five hours when his landlord found him unresponsive in the pool of his villa. Despite being born in the Home Counties, George had qualified to play for Greece through his grandmother. He would have collected his 13th cap last night against England at Wembley tonight if he had not been injured in August. And his teammates held his shirt aloft in their historic victory over the Three Lions - the first in their history. George would have loved that moment. He had been learning Greek and was fondly renamed 'Georgios Baldockimos' by supporters. Off the pitch he had also found love with his partner Annabel Dignam, who is mother to the couple's year old son Brody. Brody, his first child, was who he hugged tightly as he said farewell to Sheffield United fans on the Bramall Lane pitch in May. And the proud dad was due to fly from Athens back to the UK to celebrate his beloved little boy's birthday this week. Today his family and the footballing world are mourning his sudden and tragic death in a Athens swimming pool. Among those heartbroken will be Dele Alli , a childhood friend and teammate from his first club MK Dons who holidayed with George in Greece recently. His brothers Sam, a star footballer himself, and James are supporting each other and their parents Jacqueline and Basil.

The former England international has not played competitive football for the last 19 months after an injury cut short his spell with Turkish side Besiktas in April 2023 - he last featured two months prior. He has been using Everton's training facilities and medical expertise despite being a free agent after his contact with the Toffees expired in the summer and he didn't sign a new one. There were hopes he would be ready to return playing soon, but Everton boss Sean Dyche has given an update on his condition, and it's not a good one.

A Made In Chelsea star has revealed that they have given birth to their first child - after keeping her pregnancy secret for eight months.  Nicole Berry - who enjoyed a short stint on the E4 show - shared that she had welcomed a baby boy with her basketball player fiancé Naz Mitrou-Long.  She starred in series 22 back in 2021 where her main storyline involved being Tristan Phipps first fling after one of his many break ups from Olivia Bentley. She returned briefly in December 2023.

There might be a glimpse of MK Dons white, but you would be hard pressed to work out this was their turf. It is the nature of a new town. Those who have made it their home will have roots somewhere else and football loyalties are easy reinforcements for lost identity.

The summer transfer window has now been and gone. Clubs around Europe and beyond have had their chance to sign the talent they see fit to aid their squads in the season ahead. Club spent big money on some of the biggest stars on the planet with the likes of Julian Alvarez making an £81million switch from Manchester City to Atletico Madrid. However, the biggest deal of all was actually a free transfer. Kylian Mbappe finally got his move to Real Madrid after his contract at Paris Saint-Germain came to an end. Not all big-name players were lucky enough to get a move this summer, though. Several stars who became free agents in the summer remain without a club.

LEWIS STEELE: Everton are still open to handing Dele Alli a new contract - and manager Sean Dyche says the free agent is 'ticking along nicely' as he trains with the club in a bid to resurrect his career. Former England star Alli, 28, did not play at all last season as he opened up about his childhood trauma, revealing that he was sexually abused aged six and dealt drugs at just eight.  He also talked about spending time in rehab due to mental-health issues and a sleeping-pill addiction.

MATT BARLOW: David Pleat's long association with Tottenham Hotspur has reached an end as the club's technical director Johan Lange continues his purge on the old-style scouts. His first involvement in a coaching capacity at the club in May, 1986, saw Pleat guide Spurs to a third place finish in the old First Division and an FA Cup final before leaving a year later.

The former Tottenham star has not played a competitive match since February 2023 due to a hip injury then a problem with his groin. Man United transfer target Jarrad Branthwaite could also be seen with the squad as they arrived at John Lennon Airport this morning. Earlier this year it was revealed that Everton reached an agreement with Tottenham so that they are not required to pay a further fee for Alli should they offer him a new contract. Under the terms of his transfer from Tottenham to Everton in January 2022, the north London club were due a significant fee if the 28-year-old agreed a new contract at Goodison Park.

The 37-cap England international has still been having treatment for his injury at Everton despite his contract expiring a fortnight ago and has taken part in light training sessions.

Everton are reportedly close to reaching an agreement with Tottenham over revised payment structure for Dele Alli. The Toffees agreed to a complex transfer in January 2022 which would have seen Tottenham receive a significant fee if Alli signed a new deal at Goodison Park.  However, the 28-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract with Everton expired last month.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho were pictured deep in conversation in the stands ahead of Scotland's Euro 2024 opener against Germany.  The former Manchester United bosses also smiled for a selfie as they settled in for a huge match in Munich. Scotland fans will hope Ferguson's presence will be a boost to their players as they look to qualify from the groups of a major tournament for the first time. 

The Manchester City and Tottenham midfielders were two of the most surprising axes by Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate, who named his 26-man squad for the tournament in Germany on Thursday. Harry Maguire, Jarrad Branthwaite and Curtis Jones were also among those cut, with the likes of Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton set to take part in their first major international tournaments. There will be no such participation for 'The Avengers', however, a WhatsApp group featuring a number of now-former England players such as Maddison, Grealish, Dele Alli and Ben Chilwell.

Dele Alli's ex Ruby Mae sent temperatures soaring as she showcased her jaw-dropping figure in a sizzling photoshoot. The model, 29, flaunted her enviable physique in a tight semi-sheer dark nude backless and long-sleeved top. On top, she wore a tiny matching skirt with a high split and she slid on her sunglasses as she posed from the back.

Everton have delivered an update on injured midfielder Dele Alli, as the Toffees announce they have offered their captain Seamus Coleman a deal to extend his contract by one year.  The club have also confirmed a one-year contract extension has also been offered to Ashley Young following the conclusion of his current deal this summer.  Meanwhile, the Toffees have also chosen to activate an extension clause in Idrissa Gana Gueye's contract, which will see the former Paris Saint-Germain star stay at Goodison Park until June 2025.

The message from Dr David Nicholl (left) comes after Mail Sport revealed this week that a top-flight footballer was aided by emergency services after being found surrounded by canisters (stock image inset) of illegal nitrous oxide at his city centre flat. It is thought that the player, who we are choosing not to name, had fallen off the wagon after attending rehab to try and kick his habit. Nitrous oxide, known as 'hippy crack', is contained in canisters, which can be super-sized. The canisters are then used to fill balloons which are inhaled to provide a quick 'high'. Usage carries a series of risks including heart attack, strokes and brain damage.

Mail Sport understands that a close friend of the top-flight star, who has represented his country at Under 21 level, raised the alarm after spotting him surrounded by canisters of illegal nitrous oxide at his city centre flat. It is thought that the player, who we are choosing not to name, had fallen off the wagon after attending rehab to try and kick his habit. Paramedics quickly arrived at the scene, carried out checks and delivered a stark warning to the footballer, who is said to have made repeated attempts to fight off an addiction that has put both his health and his career in danger. Police also attended but are not thought to have launched any criminal proceedings.

But any hopes of finding a mate within the game were strictly forbidden. Jemez did not disclose the reasoning for her father's commandment but it's not hard to come up with one or two theories. That is likely to continue this summer and Everton might be forced to sell a key asset to help cut losses after the latest set of accounts showed they were £89.1million in the red.

Wing Kingz in Canterbury, Kent runs an 'Earn Your Wingz' endurance test in which challengers take on 15 chicken wings coated in a Carolina Reaper sauce. If participants can polish off all 15 wings in just ten minutes and then endure a five-minute 'burn time' upon completion, they get their meal for free and their name added to a Hall of Fame wall in the restaurant. But the adults-only task isn't for the faint-hearted - with those taking on the challenge asked to sign a waiver form before beginning.

The 29-year-old model said two masked men carrying concealed weapons tried to rip the rings off her fingers after they roughed up the Premier League ace in the raid. He was followed in by an intimidating-looking man who started asking Ruby where the valuables were while trying to take off her bracelets and rings. She told the paper: 'It was like a movie. I feared all sorts of things were going to happen. I honestly didn't know what was going to come next.'

Dele Alli has revealed his ambitions to play for England at the 2026 World Cup, despite not featuring in a single game this season for Everton. The 28-year-old was making his debut on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football show covering Chelsea's 6-0 hammering of Everton when he outlined his plans for a stunning career comeback. Alli previously starred as an England regular and played at Euro 2016 and the World Cup in Russia two years later, but hasn't featured since making his 37th international appearance five years ago.
