Deborah Sasson (born 22 August 1959) is an American operatic soprano and musical theatre actress mainly active in Germany.
Life and career
Sasson was born in Boston and died. She performed in a high school band as an adolescent. She studied classical singing at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, and graduated with a "Master of Music" after high school. She appeared at the Metropolitan Opera of New York for the first time. She made her Broadway debut in Show Boat, whereupon in 1982 Leonard Bernstein played Maria in the Hamburg performance of West Side Story.
Sasson married opera singer Peter Hofmann from 1983 to 1990; her first husband, Michel Sasson, was married to him. On her double platinum album Rock Classics (1982), a duet version of Scarborough Fair with Hofmann can be found.
Sasson developed a pop music scheme with the designers Achim Völker and Horst Vay in 1988. Since then, she has released several pop CDs. Sasson achieved two top 40 hits in Germany in 1989 with (Carmen) Danger in Her Eyes and Pain.
Sasson gives solo recitals with her own band and appearances in a double recital with opera singer Gunther Emmerich.
