Dawud Wharnsby (born David Howard Wharnsby on June 27, 1972) is a Canadian Universalist Muslim singer-songwriter, poet, actor, lecturer, and television presenter.
He is best known for his performances in the English Language nasheed and spoken word genres.

Personal life
David Howard Wharnsby embraced the Qur'an's teachings by changing his name to "Dawud" (Arabic: "David") and adding "Arabic: ) to his surname in 1993. The name "Ali" was dropped from professional use in 2003, but it is still a part of his legal name. Since 1993, Wharnsby has identified himself as a Muslim and has also adhered to Unitarian Universalism's principles.

Early artistic career
David Wharnsby, a born in Kitchener, Ontario, became involved in local theatre productions in his early teens, first appearing on a world-class theater stage at the age of 18 in a production of "Jesus Christ Superstar" (Annas). "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" and "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead" were two of his late teens' stage appearances.
Wharnsby, a 19-year-old boy, began performing throughout Southern Ontario as both a solo musician and as a member of various musical groups. He began performing on street corners of their hometown as a musician with folk band Crakenthorpe's Teapot. During 1993-2004, Wharnsby travelled extensively in Ontario, England, and Scotland, performing informally on street corners and in parks to sell and promote his music. He formed Three Keyed Maple Seeds in 1993, which later became Enter into Peace and registered with SOCAN as a music publishing entity.
Wharnsby began working as a professional actor and puppeteer for two distinct educational theater troupes, touring public schools, and folk festivals throughout Ontario in the early 1990s. He appeared in a short educational film called "To Catch A Thief," which was distributed around Canada as part of the John Howard Society's anti-shoplifting program at the age of 20.
