Despite voting for impeachment, California Senator David Valadao became the only Republican to win in the midterm election after successfully avoiding Donald Trump's crosshairs. When the election was called Monday night, Valadao had a three-point lead over Democrat Rudy Salas in the Central Valley 22nd District. In the competitive race, the result took nearly two weeks to be decided. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler of Washington state conceded defeat in her open primary against fellow Republican Joe Kent on August 2. Former President Trump had Kent, a former Green Beret, endorse him. Kent will now run in the general election on November 8 for the senator's seat. Beutler was one of ten House Republicans to vote against Trump's 2021 impeachment. I'm proud that I told the truth, adhered to my values, and did what I felt to be the best for our country,' Herrera Beutler said in a tweet. In the November election, Kent will face Democrat Marie Gluesenkamp Perez. Kent has 26.7 percent and Herrera Beutler has 22.3 percent with 99% of the votes counted.
