My job as travel editor of The Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday has seen me travel to every corner of the world. I've visited the vast wilderness of Brazil, hung out with gorillas in Rwanda, island-hopped in the Caribbean and hitch-hiked across Canada. Some experiences will stay with me forever. Others haven't lived up to their billing. So these are the places you absolutely must visit at least once in a lifetime - and a few you might want to avoid...

Graham Boynton says South Africa's political shift has put Riebeek-Kasteel, a small town an hour's drive from Cape Town, 'firmly on the map again - and for all the right reasons'. The town is set against a 'spectacular' backdrop of rolling farmlands and the Kasteelberg mountain range. It's a destination for foodies and wine-lovers, he reveals.

Superfunds can defuse huge time bomb facing pensions

Only a few investment managers in the United Kingdom have been raking in money for more than three decades on behalf of investors. The majority of people died by the wayside much earlier, having been weakened by the market and reputational harm. According to a survey released last year by a survey of investment trusts, only four of them had been at the helm for more than three decades. Richard Buxton's longevity is all the more remarkable. After 40 years of looking after people's long-term investments, he has just resigned from fund management with his image still intact. Buxton has done his best to make money for investors at a number of investment houses since the 1980s.

Discovering that Africa's Victoria Falls is overflowing with thrilling activities, from helicopter rides to nerve-jangling walks above the thunderous Zambezi river

Many itineraries for southern Africa only allow for a night or two in Victoria Falls. Nigel Tisdall experiences some of the on-going activities that make a longer stay worthwhile. 'When explorer David Livingstone arrived here on November 17, 1855, he was the first European to gaze at this magnificent natural wonder, cruising across the countryside with a retinue of 114 porters.' Now we can fly in from the United Kingdom on overnight flights, but the feeling of wonder remains the same.'

Not even the Queen would have predicted such a rich in music and beauty on such a large scale

DOMINIC SANDBROOK: Of all the spectacular shows that have unfolded in our country's capital over the past 70 years, there has never been one like Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. It was also Britain's saddest day and our best, utterly stunning and yet poignant. And amid the pomp and glamour, it was difficult to forget that this was a farewell to an individual human being, a wife and mother with dreams and concerns that we may never know. And as I watched her children and grandchildren, I was reminded of many humbler funerals, much removed from the world's view. Of course, this was not just a private function. Such is the burden of monarchy. Even in death, there can be a great deal between the personal and the public for a queen.
