EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Homecoming for Hockney a decade on

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 18, 2024
EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Acclaimed as Britain's greatest living artist, David Hockney was left devastated by the death of his young studio assistant, Dominic Elliott, a decade ago. So much so that Hockney declared he would sell his five-bedroom home in Bridlington, on the Yorkshire coast, where Dominic took a cocktail of illegal drugs and alcohol with Hockney's ex-partner before drinking lavatory cleaner, leading to his death aged 23. After selling the house in 2015, Hockney lived mainly in Los Angeles and then in France.

ALEXANDRA SHULMAN'S NOTEBOOK: Wearing a bikini is the perfect post-op pick me up

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 14, 2024
ALEXANDRA SHULMAN'S NOTEBOOK: I am writing from the Greek island of Syros on my last week of a long holiday. After a recent operation for colon cancer, my stomach looks like a game of noughts and crosses, marked with a large number of deep purple scars left by my excellent surgeon. So I had thought that this year, though no one loves a bikini more than me, I would have to give way to a one-piece and avoid inflicting my lattice tummy on the rest of the world. But within days of being by the pool in the sun, on went the bikini. I can't say that even my greatest fans could regard my belly as a pretty sight - not only are there the scars but two months of 'taking it easy', while giving up smoking, have not done my tummy any favours. Yet, to be honest, if how I looked was ever the guiding consideration in my choice of swimwear, I would probably be shrouded in a Nigella-style burkini.

EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Jeremy Clarkson and girlfriend Lisa Hogan holiday in South of France party villa - which inspired David Hockney's £60million Portrait Of An Artist

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 9, 2024
EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Does anyone rejoice in high summer quite like Jeremy Clarkson? I ask because the Oxfordshire farmer has forsaken his rolling acres at Diddly Squat in favour of the sun-kissed hills of the South of France . 'If you know, you know,' he captions this snap online, showing him peering at the shimmering, subaquatic shape of girlfriend Lisa Hogan. Well, I do actually. I can reveal that the couple are enjoying the setting which served as inspiration for David Hockney's Portrait Of An Artist, which sold in 2018 for £60million. It was painted in 1972, three years after Hockney stayed with film and theatre director Tony Richardson, father of actresses Joely and Natasha.

ALEXANDRA SHULMAN: Lady Vic's greatest fashion test... impressing her teenage daughter

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 13, 2024
Will Lady Starmer wear Samantha Cameron's fashion brand Cefinn? After all, no one knows more about the wardrobe demands of a Downing Street wife. It is unlikely, though, because regardless how infuriating it must be to have every detail of her appearance come under constant scrutiny, it would be quite a story if the new Labour PM's wife bought one of Samantha's metallic leather skirts or floral midis. The role of Prime Minister's wife is a curious one, especially for professional women used to having agency over their lives. So much of the job is being seen and not heard, with a timetable determined by others. It's a little like being a model, only without the hours of hair and make-up before you go on show.

Thousands of onshore wind turbines could go up across the WHOLE of England amid Government's push for net zero

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 12, 2024
A detailed study of 'potential' turbine sites in England shows just how far the move to wind power could go and the possible impact on our green and pleasant land. Yorkshire, the North-East, North-West and parts of eastern England have the 'most renewable energy potential.' But apart from the main urban areas around London and the home counties, Birmingham , West and South Yorkshire, Manchester and Liverpool, energy-generating turbines could pop up almost anywhere if the funds were available, research commissioned by Friends of the Earth has shown.

CITY WHISPERS: De Beers hangs on to the artworks in Anglo American divorce

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 8, 2024
There are some some jawdropping works on display at the joint London headquarters of mining giant Anglo American and diamond group De Beers. Just walking out of the sixth-floor toilets brings you face-to-face with one of the famous David Hockney swimming pool paintings. So how will it be split when they part ways? Not 50-50. De Beers will keep its much bigger collection, much of which was built up in the early 20th century, while Anglo will be able to hold onto its existing assortment.

Above his medals were three badges representing the Royal British Legion, the Remembrance Day Poppy and Charles' status as an Armed Forces veteran.

How celebrities, geeks, and international princes are snapping up multi-million pound homes with David Hockney artwork, bespoke pet menus, and LED tennis courts (and they're all under the age of 41)

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 8, 2024
Among the many celebrities under the age of 41, including Dua Lipa and Matt Smith, have been among the hundred thousand house-hunters who have contributed to London's burgeoning mansion market in the last decade. According to estate agents Beauchamp Estates, the average age of people buying 'trophy homes' in the capital has decreased by 12 years in the last ten years to 41. Popular young actors and singers such as Lily James and Harry Styles, as well as Russian oligarchs, Middle Eastern kings, and other international billionaire tycoons are among those who have purchased luxurious homes. Lipa is the owner of a Victorian house in Hampstead, for which she has been granted permission to install an underground swimming pool and a library. Rita Ora of the Masked Singer lives in Primrose Hill, home to grand Victorian terraces and pastel-coloured Regency townhouses worth £7.5 million. And Styles has bought three houses in north London in recent years, including a £2.95 million home when he was just 18.

Overview of Palm Royale: Sex, gossip, Ricky Martin mixing cocktails... now is the time to visit this spa, writes CHRISTOPHER STEVENS

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 21, 2024
CHRISTOPHER STEVENS: Whatever happened to Ricky Martin? You may recall that he, a Puerto Rican pop star, had a huge success 25 years ago with the difficultly catchy Livin' La Vida Loca. He was cryogenically frozen at the start of the millennium and has just been arrested to play a vindictive waiter at America's snobbiest spa resort in the hilarious Palm Royale (Apple TV+). The only plausible explanation for Ricky's age-defying features is a suspension animation in liquid nitrogen, but the majority of the cast can be said the same. Kristen Wiig, a 50-year-old comedian, bounces about like a teenager on her way to the social ladder, climbing over walls and windows as the relentlessly upbeat Maxine flies. And Carol Burnett, who is 93, does a good job at 90, and she's playing a billionaire in a coma. Well, everything about Palm Royale seems to be excellent, in fact. It's loosely based on Juliet McDaniel's book Mr & Mrs American Pie, which was set in Palm Beach's super-rich Florida enclave in 1969, drenched in color like a David Hockney painting.

EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: After just two years in a New York jail, the Hackney-born £80 million art swindler has been released

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 2, 2024
DEN CONFIDENTIAL: As Inigo Philbrick (left) was sentenced to seven years in jail for executing a £80 million art swindle, his fiancee, Victoria Baker-Harber (left, right) vowed to stand by him. Victoria hasn't had to wait too long, as the art dealer has now been released from jail in New York after serving less than two years. Gaia-Grace, their daughter who has never met, can now be welcomed into their family. One of her friends tells me, 'It's a surprise' that he's out so quickly.' Everybody expected him to be in jail for much longer.' Philbrick was released last month by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, according to the federal Bureau of Prisons. Jay Jopling, Philbrick, 36, a leading art dealer in Hackney, East London, bought and sold paintings by artists, including David Hockney. He wore a £48,000 watch, £5,000 boots, a belt with a diamond embedded in the pin, and he drank £5,000 bottles of wine.

EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Kirstie Allsopp's father faces a Supreme Court contest over a £320 million unpaid medical bill

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 12, 2024
EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: He gained a reputation as the man with the golden gavel, as well as a life as an auctioneer, orchestrating the auction of 79 of Princess Diana's dresses, which went for $3.25 million (£2.6 million) in New York, just two months before her death. But Lord Hindlip, 83, who was widely praised for his zeal and tenacity during his tenure as Christie's chairman, has now become well-known as the father of vivacious Location, Location, and Location host Kirstie Allsopp. I can confirm that he is being sued for more than £321,000 in a case destined for the High Court.

Pauline Boty, a pop art icon and Sixties girl, was on display in Alfie and met with Michael Caine in 1966 but she died of cancer at the age of 28 in 1966, as her legacy is honoured in a new exhibition

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 10, 2024

Now, a new exhibition is bringing the radical artist's life and work to the public eye. Pauline Boty: A Portrait, which is on display at the Gazelli Art House in west London, is showing several of her paintings, including one that honors Cuba's Fidel Castro's ascension to the communist regime.

When entering the David Hockney: Drawing From Life exhibition at London's National Portrait Gallery, you are surrounded by photographs of Hockney's close friend, textile designer Celia Birtwell. The artist's muse posed for him more than a century ago, now 82. Two drawings stand out in the exhibit's final room: granddaughters, 21-year-old Tilly Clark, and younger sister Lola, 18.

The spectacular video was created on an iPad Pro and converts Battersea's iconic 328ft chimneys into festive Christmas trees. 'Battersea Power Station is such a stunning building, I wanted to decorate it in a way that would bring joy and hope to Londoners,' Hockney said.

TOM UTLEY: Who wants to live to 150 in this mad world in which killjoys seek to ban all pleasure and police our thoughts?

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 30, 2023
TOM UTLEY: As I approached 70 this week, I've been worrying a lot about death this week, the threescore years and ten named in Psalm 90 as the length of time we can expect to live on this planet. According to a recent study by the Christian think tank, I'm now one of four of us who believe we worry about our own death at least once a week. I should point out at least once that many people lived much longer than 90 years since Psalm 90 was published, well over 3,000 years before the dramatic increase in life expectancy since my own birth in 1953. The Psalmist himself admitted to so much in the second part of his famous verse 10 that he wrote, although he struck a bleak note on death's inevitability, if it would appear. The days of our years are threescore years and ten years, and though they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and despair; for these years, they are soon cut off and we fly away.'

Guess who's coming to dinner? One A-lister smoked all the way through MARY MCCARTNEY's dinner, and another made a monumental faux pas. The daughter of Paul reveals the secrets of cooking for the A list

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 28, 2023
Feeding Creativity is McCartney's third book of vegetarian recipes; she and her fashion designer sister Stella co-created one; Vegetarianism used to be the favored cause of cranks and sandal-wearing lefties, but it has long since gone mainstream, and veggie cookbooks have topped the bestseller list.

ROGER LEWIS: Veganuary, Sober October, LGBTQ+ History Month... Is there any respite from the arduous campaign raging?

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 8, 2023
ROGER LEWIS: If Dry January wasn't depressing enough for thirsty chaps like myself, there's another one coming: Sober October. All correct, £789,000, at last count, has already been raised for Macmillan Cancer Support by members of the public, who have promised to avoid booze until Halloween - an abstinence that is helping to raise vital funds for people living with cancer.' So there's unquestionable merit in all these people spending a month on the water wagon.

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Will Princess Kate accompany Prince William to the Earthshot Prize in Singapore? The school run may now be more important

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 25, 2023
EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Why didn't the Princess of Wales accompany William on his trip to New York? Kate, a clumsy foreign traveller, has been out of the country for just two weeks this year, a short trip to watch England play Argentina in Marseille and the Crown Prince of Jordan's wedding. There had been high hopes at the FCO that Kate would not only visit more overseas but also bring the children. George has been to Australia and New Zealand, and Charlotte has been accompanied in Canada, Poland, and Germany, but it appears that education and routine are now more important than providing the FCO with some 'panda diplomacy.'
