David Darling (born March 3, 1941) is an American cellist and composer.

Music career
Darling was born in Elkhart, Indiana, on March 4, 1941. He was keen on music from an early age, starting piano at four years old, cello at ten, and string bass in high school. He studied classical cello at Indiana State University and spent four years as a tutor after graduation.
He worked as a studio musician in Nashville, Tennessee, and was a member of the Paul Winter Consort until 1978. He appeared in the chamber jazz group Gallery with Ralph Towner and released his first solo album, Journal Oct.
Darling's performances and composition have influenced a variety of genres, including classical, jazz, Brazilian, African, and Indian music.
He produced and performed music for more than a dozen major motion pictures, including Child's Play (1988), Heat (1995), and Until the End of the World (1991). He performed in Nouvelle Vain (1990), Éloge de l'amour (2001), and Notre muse (2004).
He began working with the Wulu Bunun, a group of Taiwanese aborigines, in 2000.
He co-produced The Darling Conversations in 2007, with Julie Weber discussing his music philosophy. Manifest Spirit Records issued it. Darling's latest book, Prayer for Compassion, was released in January 2009, a follow-up to his earlier 8-String Faith, which is published on the Curve Blue label.
