David Carpenter, 60, of Coventry, tragically died when the vehicle's compaction cycle started despite him being inside. A jury concluded the accident which led to the grandfather's death was 'foreseeable'. In a Prevention of Future Deaths report, area coroner for Coventry and Warwickshire, Delroy Henry, said there are still thousands of 'sub-optimal' bin lorries in use. Mr Henry called for action to improve safety in the 'hazardous' profession, but said it was happening at an 'inordinately slow' pace.

Caragh Eaton, 28, was left with horrific injuries after being mowed down and left for dead just yards from her front door in Barrow, northern Leicestershire (right). Emergency personnel rushed to the scene in Field Edge Drive at 4.45 p.m. on Tuesday, but a short time later, she was declared dead. Officers discovered an abandoned black Land Rover nearby and arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion of murder charges. He is now in detention and being investigated by detectives. After being identified by the police, Caragh has been seen by Leicestershire police today. On social media, tributes have pour in to the 'beautiful and kind' young woman who ran a Facebook page for car enthusiasts after her death was announced. 'Rip Caragh Eaton, such sad news to hear, was a beautiful young lady who didn't hurt a fly,' he was sad to hear what happened to her, what a twisted world we live in,' Craig Gibson wrote.
