Heartbroken mother Lucy Richards has spoken of her 'torture' over the last 15 years of not knowing where her murdered son's body is, after Jesse Richards was killed in 2009 in Evesham, Worcestershire. According to reports at the time, the 'passive family man' was said to have begged for his life before he was brutally assaulted with a range of weapons, including a pickaxe, and bundled into a van. Five men were jailed for a total of 50 years in 2012 over his death. Today, a £10,000 reward has been announced for anyone with information.

England's chief medical officer (right) has backed a new report released by the National Engineering Policy Centre, which outlines engineering solutions to the UK's crumbling water system with a focus on protecting people's health. The team of researchers said the UK's wastewater infrastructure must be improved to reduce exposure to human faecal pathogens in effluent - treated water released back into rivers, seas and lakes. People are increasingly using coastal and inland open waters recreationally, leading to greater public exposure to pollutants, the report said. He said sewage outflows during wet weather (inset) were only part of the problem.

MAURICE SAATCHI reveals how the Tories should fight back against Labour's attack ads

April 11, 2023
MAURICE SAATCHI (MA): Politics is a form of partisanship. Is it struck or not? It is not a world for the squeamish or the faint-hearted. I admit that Labour's 'attack ads' this week are revolting and may jeopardize their chances of regaining power. Nonetheless, I do not baulk at sheer negativity. I have no moral objection to them, even though one of them accuses Rishi Sunak of believing that paedophiles are not deserving of going to prison. In fact, I regard myself as the godfather of negative campaigning. Professor David Butler, the most respected authority on British general elections, told me that negative advertising has 'personally responsible' for destroying British politics.

Sir David Butler, a pioneering journalist who appeared in 1964 with his Swingometer; top right in 1979 and bottom right in 2015), then continued reporting elsewhere on poll nights until 2010. He was 25 years old when he made his election night debut and was widely known for coining the term of the swing, indicating that the vote moves from one party to another among polls. The Swingometer was introduced in 1955 in a world famous invention that has been used by the BBC at every election since its debut. Sir David used the word 'psephology' for his art, which came from the Greek word 'psephos' for pebble. Ancient Greeks used pebbles to vote in elections. Michael Crick, his biographer, paid tribute to him by naming him the 'father of psephology' in honor of his death.'
