Sporting a fake black eye and bruised left cheek, the Oscar nominee hobbled out of a nearby building with one arm wrapped around Kravitz's, 35, shoulders. Butler - who plays a former baseball player who finds himself mixed up with criminals - was wearing a white hospital gown, a blue robe and sneakers.

Brendan Fraser of Tokyo celebrates the release of his comeback film The Whale

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 6, 2023
At a press conference in Tokyo this week, Brendan Fraser glowed while promoting his comeback film The Whale. The Whale, directed by Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky, starred Brendan as a wheelchair-bound gay man who weighs 600 pounds. The film, which was released four days before Christmas 2022, was greeted with a deluge of acclaim, as well as a best actor Oscar for Brendan. During his Tokyo presser, the 54-year-old, who began his career as a Hollywood heartthrob in decades past with films like The Mummy, was agelessly handsome. He wore a chic khaki jacket over his clinging black t-shirt, which matched his jeans and contrasted elegantly with his tan shoes.

People lose with Brendan Fraser's victory in Oscars

www.popsugar.co.uk, March 14, 2023
On March 12th, Brendan Fraser was named best actor for his leading role in "The Whale" at the Academy Awards, and I hated it. Fraser was nominated for a role in which he dons'fat suit and pretends to eat fried chicken and sandwiches and pizza. It's a film in which he literally eats himself to death, and it's portrayed as a sort of metaphor for love and redemption. Fraser and director Darren Aronofsky have stated consistently that they wanted the film to reflect fat people's humanity and inspire empathy in them, but the film does not do anything close. Fraser's win is the cherry on top, indicating Hollywood's recognition that this is a good, worthwhile film and performance. Every time I talk about "The Whale"'s issues, I get the feeling that I'm being pushed to avoid it. "I love Brendan, but I must admit." "He's so great in 'The Mummy!'He's in 'Killers of the Flower Moon' this year, he'll be so great!" Brendan has eloquently discussed his struggle with depression, about the agony he suffered at, and, of course, I'm delighted to see him get through those challenges and return to a career he loves. However, the mental health struggle didn't stop him from participating in a film like "The Whale," but it makes it worse. People with depression are stigmatized and stereotyped in culture, as well as obese people. Fraser's own experience led him to greater empathy for and recognition with those in larger organizations, but he and his awards campaign used it as a justification for why he deserved to win.

The actress, 49, looked regal on the red carpet in a show-stopping gown with sheer panels.

"I Will Treasure This" is Brendan Fraser's Best Actor award from 2023, a salute

www.popsugar.co.uk, February 27, 2023
Brendan Fraser couldn't hold back the tears as he accepted the 2023 SAG Award for best leading actor in a film for his role in "The Whale" on February 26th. As he gazed at the trophy itself, a statue of an actor, Fraser joked around. "This is great, a sort of naked man making up his mind to smile or frown," he joked. "You know, like an actor." He continued, "I will treasure this," he said pointing to the monument. "But not more than what I treasured that I used to hold in my wallet," I said. This was my SAG card, which I earned in 1991. It made me feel like I belonged to a certain place. We're actors, but we all want to seem as though we belong to a tribe. And here's where I found out that I was not a member of the United States.

Brendan Fraser makes a convincing argument for an Oscar: The Whale bribes Brendan Fraser (BRIAN VINER) looks at the Whale

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 3, 2023
BRIAN VINER: Morbid obesity is nothing funny, but on screen, Terry Jones' portrayal of comedy as Mr Creosote in Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life (1983) lumbers come to mind. Hugely obese characters also appear in horror and fantasy films, but it is not often that you find one as the protagonist in a love story. The Whale by Darren Aronofsky isn't a traditional love tale - it isn't a conventional thing - but it is about love nonetheless, both destructive and redemptive. Charlie (Brendan Fraser) weighs more than 40 pounds and is not just housebound but also practically chair bound. He is a middle-aged scholar who teaches creative writing online from his apartment in Idaho but is so overwhelmed by his colossal size that he can't get to the front door without a walking frame.

After being retreating' from mainstream Hollywood, Brendan Fraser says he's made peace with himself

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 29, 2023
Brendan Fraser's potential Oscar-winning role in The Whale, director Darren Aronofsky's touching response to America's obesity epidemic, has a strange irony. Here, the actor who is best known for his rugged physique and brooding good looks is unrecognizable as briskly overweight English teacher Charlie, a man whose health problems have caused him to be marginalized from society and alienated by his own family. It's a career that began many years after his Hollywood career as the swashbuckling, Indiana Jones inspired adventurer Rick O'Connell, who entertained millions.

Brendan Fraser Delivers Emotional Critics' Choice Speech: "I'm Shook That You Woke Up For Me"

www.popsugar.co.uk, January 15, 2023
Brendan Fraser had a swanky evening at the 2023 Critics' Choice Awards, where he snagged the best actor award for his film "The Whale" appearance. The 54-year-old actor was up for the challenge against fierce opposition, including Austin Butler in "Elvis," Tom Cruise in "Top Gun: Maverick," and Bill Nighy in "Life" after his Hollywood comeback. Fraser accepted his award on Sunday night and gave an emotional address, saying, "I'm shook that you woke up for me" referring to those who watched "The Whale." "This film, 'The Whale,' is about love, it's about redemption, and it's about finding the light in a dim place," he said on the brink of tears. The actor thanked his coworkers, including Sadie Sink, Hong Chau, and Ty Simpkins, as well as director Darren Aronofsky, who was lauded for his award-winning role.

In the new trailer for The Whale, Brendan Fraser saves his relationship with daughter Sadie Sink

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 14, 2022
With the unveiling of Brendan Fraser's heartbreaking portrayal of an English professor grappling with both a broken family and life-threatening morbid obesity, viewers got a closer glance at the subject. The more in-depth trailer delves into the 600lb English professor Charlie (Fraser) and his relationship with his estranged teenage daughter (played by Stranger Things actor Sadie Sink). In addition, it includes a glimpse of Charlie's relationship with his caretaker, Liz (Hong Chau) who asks him to concentrate on his health.

Don't Be Fooled by the Awards Buzz: "The Whale" Is Just Another Fat-Exploitation Film

www.popsugar.co.uk, December 14, 2022
"The Whale," Brendan Fraser's comeback film, has made a lot of buzz due to people's excitement over his return to screens. He's been lauded at film festivals, reunited with former costars, and opened up about his personal and professional journey during his press tour. And yet, "The Whale," which was released by A24 and directed by Darren Aronofsky, is very bad. Fraser plays Charlie, a gay, fat man who is alienated from his teenage daughter and supports himself by teaching writing classes over Zoom. He loves writing and reading, but we never see him do anything. No, Charlie's days consisted of teaching his classes with the camera off, waiting for his buddy to bring him food, and eating the food. He masturbates while watching gay porn, resulting in a cardiac arrest, which is only prevented by the presence of a door-to-door missionary who read aloud his favorite essay, which, of course, is about "Moby Dick." It's a bad start to a film that never gets better.

The Whale director hits back at criticism over Brendan Fraser wearing 'fat suit' to play obese man

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 13, 2022
Darren Aronofsky, the Whale director, has retaliated after criticism of Brendan Fraser's use of a prosthetic 'fat suit' to portray an obese man in the critically acclaimed film. Fraser plays a 600-pound gay man who is trying to reconcile with his estranged daughter with the help of The Mummy actor who created the 300 pound 'fat suit' filled with airsoft pellets, dried beans, and marbles for his scenes.

Wakanda Forever, the Black Panther, remains on top for the fifth weekend as the box office approaches a new low

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 12, 2022
With just days remaining until what could be the year's best movie - Avatar: The Way of Water - the box office dropped to a near new low for the fifth weekend in a row. In a weekend where no new movies were released in wide release, the Marvel Studios sequel dropped by 36.7% in its fifth weekend in theaters, grossing $11.1 million for a quick victory. The box office's earnings of $38.3 million was the second lowest of the year (just ahead of the $34.87 million mark on January 28-30), but A24's critically acclaimed indie The Whale did record a new 2022 for the highest limited opening per-screen average of the year.

Watch a trailer for Brendan Fraser's "The Whale," Brendan Fraser's Comeback Film

www.popsugar.co.uk, November 8, 2022
"The Whale," starring Brendan Fraser in his comeback role, is available here. On Monday, A24 released the first video of Fraser and his costars in the drama. Darren Aronofsky's film is based on Samuel D. Hunter's play of the same name, who also wrote the screenplay. "A reclusive English teacher suffering from severe obesity struggles to reunite with his estranged teenage daughter for one last chance at happiness," A24 says in a summary of the film. Fraser's Charlie left his family for his gay friend, who died, according to the film's source material. He used binge eating to cope with his depression.
