After trying to reach first in the NFL combine next week, teams typically wait until just before the window closes to use a tag. There are three specific options for teams to use with the Transition tag, Exclusive brand tag, and the most commonly used Non-exclusive franchise tag. The non-exclusive franchise tag, which is commonly referred to as just the 'franchise tag,' is a one-year tender of the average top-five salaries at the player's position over the last five years, or 120 percent of his previous pay, whichever is greater. The player will trade with other clubs, but if he signs with another club, he has the right to match any bid or receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.
