CRAIG HOPE AT ST JAMES' PARK: It was Danny Welbeck whose goal was the difference as he continued his fine form this season before being stretchered off, but Fabian Hurzeler's side kept a clean sheet to take the points. For Newcastle, it's now back-to-back games without scoring for Eddie Howe 's side, with the Magpies now picking up just two points from their last four matches in a concerning blip of form under the Englishman.

Danny Welbeck had to be stretched off the pitch at St James Park following what appears to be a serious injury. The Brighton goalscorer required oxygen after he appeared to fall to the ground, with a back injury.  The 33-year-old striker opened the scoring for the Seagulls against Eddie Howe's side, which was enough to see them register back-to-back League wins.

Alexander Isak should have probably topped up the kitty afterwards. At this rate - no goal from open play in nearly seven hours - the Toon Army could be marching on a stomach full of ale for a little while yet. Isak looked like he had sunk a couple himself when kicking at fresh air in the six-yard area with the game goalless and Newcastle on top in the first half. He was then sent clear but shot straight at the goalkeeper

James Maddison has made an honest admission about Tottenham's mentality following their 3-2 defeat against Brighton. Maddison scored in the first half to make it 2-0 after Brennan Johnson had given Tottenham the lead. However, Tottenham, remarkably, ended up losing 3-2 as Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck scored for Brighton.

Dimitar Berbatov has shared his disbelief at Spurs' second-half capitulation at Brighton, as Ange Postecoglou's men threw away a 2-0 lead to lose to the hosts 3-2.  Three second-half goals from Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck totally turned the game on its head, after Spurs had led 2-0 with a dominant first-half display. BRIGHTON 3-2 TOTTENHAM- MATT BARLOW AT THE AMEX: End of the pier football, we might call it. Breathless and frenzied. Littered with errors. Blurring the senses and delivering a thrilling entertainment by the seaside. Tottenham, two up and cruising at the interval through Brennan Johnson and James Maddison. Slick and aggressive, they might easily have been further ahead. Brighton fought back and made their visitors look amateurish at the back. Goals by Yankuba Minteh and Georginio Rutter levelled and Danny Welbeck headed in the winner.

AADAM PATEL AT THE AMEX STADIUM: Danny Welbeck always offered a threat and should have scored in the first half but missed a sitter. Never stopped though and was in the right position to head in the winner. It's amazing what confidence can do for a player. Brennan Johnson has six goals in six for Spurs - becoming the first player to do that since Harry Kane in 2019. A lovely finish to give his side the lead and in fairness, should have had another before the break which would have put the game to bed but he skied over when he only had the keeper to beat. Will be kicking himself for missing that.

Brighton's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest descended into chaotic scenes in the dying stages after referee Rob Jones brandished three red cards in a matter of seconds. Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White and manager Nuno Esperito Santo were given their marching orders while Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler was also sent off. Gibbs-White was given a second yellow card by Jones in the 83rd minute when he flew into a tackle on Seagulls forward Joao Pedro.

You can't buy, borrow or pretend to have experience, often considered a much-needed factor in manager selection, but in this society managing footballers needs to some extent an element of relatability alongside leadership.

Footage has shown Danny Welbeck's previously unseen role in Arsenal star Declan Rice's sending off against Brighton.   Rice was sent off for the first time in his career during the 1-1 draw at the Emirates, following a controversial second yellow card.  There was initial confusing over the second yellow as the England international appeared to be kicked by Joel Veltman.

But old habits die hard, it seems, and Ten Hag needs to get a grip of his team before any early teething problems escalate into something altogether more serious.

CHRIS WHEELER: Pedro was left totally unmarked in the 95th-minute to snatch a 2-1 win even though United had a total of 10 players defending in their own penalty box. CHRIS WHEELER AT THE AMEX STADIUM: Joao Pedro was Brighton's hero as he scored a 95th-minute winner to hand the Seagulls a dramatic 2-1 win over Manchester United on Saturday afternoon. Danny Welbeck gave the hosts the lead against his former club in the 32nd minute, scoring his 100th career goal in the process. He almost doubled Brighton's advantage after the break, only for his close-range header to come back off the crossbar. That miss appeared costly as moments later Amad Diallo latched onto a through ball before firing home via a deflection to bring United level. 

Harry Maguire defended himself to his Man United team-mates after Erik ten Hag's side fell behind in defeat to Brighton on Saturday. Erik ten Hag named a unchanged starting XI from the one that secured victory against Fulham on the opening weekend, with Summer signing Matthijs de Ligt once again left on the bench. Instead, Maguire partnered Lisandro Martinez in the centre of defence as the rain poured down at the Amex.

JOE BERNSTEIN AT GOODISON PARK: The Premier League's youngest manager Fabian Hurzeler celebrated a convincing winning start to his Brighton career with goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck and Simon Adingra against a thoroughly demoralised Everton. For the Merseysiders, defeat represented an awful opening day to their final season at Goodison Park and it was compounded by a red card at 2-0 for defender Ashley Young, who at 39 is eight years older than the triumphant Seagulls boss. There were boos around the ground from Evertonians at full-time. Mitoma, playing his first game since February because of a back injury, opened the scoring midway through the first half with Welbeck adding a second early in the second half. Adingra wrapped up the points late on.

Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku continued Chelsea's impressive late season form by scoring as the Blues secured a 2-1 win over Brighton. Palmer put Chelsea ahead with a header after the half hour mark, notching his 22nd Premier League goal of the season following a Marc Cucurella cross. Mauricio Pochettino's side doubled their lead when Nkunku slotted home from Malo Gusto's low cross in the second half. Reece James' late red card was followed by a Brighton rally, with Danny Welbeck scoring in stoppage time for the hosts.

TOM PRENTKI AT THE AMEX STADIUM: This has been the most damaging week of Aston Villa's season. A shock home defeat to Olympiakos followed by a tired defeat at Brighton has put their league and European ambitions in severe jeopardy. Joao Pedro's late goal was the difference in the scoreline but the difference in performances was stark with Roberto De Zerbi's side fully deserving of victory. This was the kind of evening that sums up Brighton's injury-plagued season's inconsistency in a week where his team reported record earnings, where he has been linked to the Bayern Munich job, and provisionally ruled out of contention for the Liverpool vacancy. With owner Tony Bloom in the away game, as well as customary whenever they face Brentford owner Paul Benham, he would have seen a team playing with a distinctive style and certainly not lacking quality in the final third, but certainly not lacking quality. They haven't won consecutive games in the Premier League since September, and the chances are that if they can't stitch a run together between now and May, there will be no European trips next season. You only really appreciate something when it's gone. De Zerbi has made it clear that Brighton's aspirations will match his, so perhaps the same can be said about him.

Darwin Nunez defibbed one of football's recent trends by opting not to give his shirt to a sign-waving fan but to a Liverpool ball boy, much to the delight of Reds fans. Fans are now holding homemade signs requesting their favorite player to give them their shirt at the end of games, which is a common sight among football fans. After Liverpool's game against the Seagulls, where Nunez led his team to a crucial 2-1 victory, a fan was seen in the crowd requesting the Uruguayan's shirt. Yet, despite appearing to spot the sign that read 'Nunez, can I have your jersey please? The forward did not want to hand over his shirt into the crowd.' Nunez, on the other hand, was seen handing over his number 9 jersey to a lucky Liverpool ball boy, although he wasn't inclined to look in the direction of the fan's autograph.
