News about Danny Welbeck

Newcastle 0-1 Brighton PLAYER RATINGS: Who makes 'too many mistakes defensively' for Eddie Howe's side? Who 'faded once Seagulls led'? And which Magpie 'cost his side'?

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 19, 2024
CRAIG HOPE AT ST JAMES' PARK: It was Danny Welbeck whose goal was the difference as he continued his fine form this season before being stretchered off, but Fabian Hurzeler's side kept a clean sheet to take the points. For Newcastle, it's now back-to-back games without scoring for Eddie Howe 's side, with the Magpies now picking up just two points from their last four matches in a concerning blip of form under the Englishman.

Danny Welbeck taken off on a stretcher after horror injury in the final minutes of Brighton's clash with Newcastle - with forward given oxygen before leaving the pitch

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 19, 2024
Danny Welbeck had to be stretched off the pitch at St James Park following what appears to be a serious injury. The Brighton goalscorer required oxygen after he appeared to fall to the ground, with a back injury.  The 33-year-old striker opened the scoring for the Seagulls against Eddie Howe's side, which was enough to see them register back-to-back League wins.

Newcastle 0-1 Brighton: Danny Welbeck's fifth goal of the season sees Seagulls soar into fifth - before striker is taken off with a worrying injury

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 19, 2024
CRAIG HOPE AT ST JAMES' PARK: On the back of his penalty miss at Everton, Anthony Gordon put some money behind the bar for supporters before this game. Alexander Isak should have probably topped up the kitty afterwards. At this rate - no goal from open play in nearly seven hours - the Toon Army could be marching on a stomach full of ale for a little while yet. Isak looked like he had sunk a couple himself when kicking at fresh air in the six-yard area with the game goalless and Newcastle on top in the first half. He was then sent clear but shot straight at the goalkeeper

James Maddison makes honest admission about Tottenham's mentality as Ange Postecoglou's side surrender two goal lead in defeat by Brighton

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 6, 2024
James Maddison has made an honest admission about Tottenham's mentality following their 3-2 defeat against Brighton. Maddison scored in the first half to make it 2-0 after Brennan Johnson had given Tottenham the lead. However, Tottenham, remarkably, ended up losing 3-2 as Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck scored for Brighton.

Dimitar Berbatov is left 'lost for words' after Tottenham's second-half capitulation - as former striker insists 3-2 defeat was simply 'not Spurs'

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 6, 2024
Dimitar Berbatov has shared his disbelief at Spurs' second-half capitulation at Brighton, as Ange Postecoglou's men threw away a 2-0 lead to lose to the hosts 3-2.  Three second-half goals from Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck totally turned the game on its head, after Spurs had led 2-0 with a dominant first-half display. Berbatov, who made 70 Premier League appearances for Spurs between 2006 and 2009, reflected on the result with fellow Sky Sports pundits, Les Ferdinand and Steve Sidwell.

Brighton 3-2 Tottenham: Danny Welbeck's winner completes a stunning second-half comeback for the Seagulls - as Spurs surrender a two-goal lead at half-time in damaging defeat

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 6, 2024
BRIGHTON 3-2 TOTTENHAM- MATT BARLOW AT THE AMEX: End of the pier football, we might call it. Breathless and frenzied. Littered with errors. Blurring the senses and delivering a thrilling entertainment by the seaside. Tottenham, two up and cruising at the interval through Brennan Johnson and James Maddison. Slick and aggressive, they might easily have been further ahead. Brighton fought back and made their visitors look amateurish at the back. Goals by Yankuba Minteh and Georginio Rutter levelled and Danny Welbeck headed in the winner.

Brighton 3-2 Tottenham PLAYER RATINGS: Who was the 'worst player on the pitch in the first half but turned the game on its head in the second'? Who was 'such a delight to watch'? And who had 'a day to forget'?

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 6, 2024
AADAM PATEL AT THE AMEX STADIUM: Danny Welbeck always offered a threat and should have scored in the first half but missed a sitter. Never stopped though and was in the right position to head in the winner. It's amazing what confidence can do for a player. Brennan Johnson has six goals in six for Spurs - becoming the first player to do that since Harry Kane in 2019. A lovely finish to give his side the lead and in fairness, should have had another before the break which would have put the game to bed but he skied over when he only had the keeper to beat. Will be kicking himself for missing that.

Nuno Espirito Santo FUMES at officials as he's sent off after Morgan Gibbs-White was dismissed in chaotic scenes during Nottingham Forest's draw with Brighton

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 22, 2024
Brighton's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest descended into chaotic scenes in the dying stages after referee Rob Jones brandished three red cards in a matter of seconds. Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White and manager Nuno Esperito Santo were given their marching orders while Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler was also sent off. Gibbs-White was given a second yellow card by Jones in the 83rd minute when he flew into a tackle on Seagulls forward Joao Pedro.

Can Danny Welbeck and Chris Wood both get on the scoresheet? The pair are 12/1 to find the back of the net as Brighton host Nottingham Forest

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 22, 2024
For those who will be watching today's Premier League clash between Brighton and Nottingham Forest with a close eye - there are four Price Boosts on offer courtesy of Sky Bet.  The first two boosts we will be dissecting include Callum Hudson-Odoi to have 1+ shots on target, and Kaoru Mitoma to win 2+ fouls. The odds for those two bets are 1/1 and 5/1 respectively.

Brighton is a blueprint for how a club can be run - and 31-year-old Fabian Hurzeler is proof that if you're good enough, you're old enough, writes SIMON JORDAN

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 11, 2024
It strikes me that unlike many other clubs, Brighton make calculated and educated decisions rather than scribbling them down on the back of a fag packet. I'm sure they did a lot of significant thinking before appointing 31-year-old Fabian Hurzeler as their new manager this summer so his early success and ability to lead players older than himself, like James Milner and Danny Welbeck , hasn't surprised me. As someone who owned a Championship club Crystal Palace at the same young age, I don't think it really matters. If you're good enough, you're old enough. You can't buy, borrow or pretend to have experience, often considered a much-needed factor in manager selection, but in this society managing footballers needs to some extent an element of relatability alongside leadership.

Pitch-side microphone reveal former Arsenal man Danny Welbeck's sneaky unseen role in Gunners midfielder Declan Rice being sent off against Brighton

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 2, 2024
Footage has shown Danny Welbeck's previously unseen role in Arsenal star Declan Rice's sending off against Brighton.   Rice was sent off for the first time in his career during the 1-1 draw at the Emirates, following a controversial second yellow card.  There was initial confusing over the second yellow as the England international appeared to be kicked by Joel Veltman.

Brighton's dark horse: How past and present stars of Premier League side could pocket an extra £37,000 just hours after Arsenal clash - with players looking to emulate the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson by making millions in racing

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 31, 2024
This weekend, Brighton travel to the Emirates Stadium to take on Arsenal in a clash which if they win, would take them top of the Premier League table momentarily. For some players featuring in Saturday's top of the table clash, the game isn't the only thing they have high stakes in this weekend. Some players will be eagerly be  tuning into the 3:35pm horse race at Sandown as they stand a chance to win £36,862 in prize money.

Football is littered with the wrecks of burned-out wonderkids, but here's why it's no surprise Martin Odegaard has risen again, writes MATT BARLOW - 10 years after interviewing his dad in Norway

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 26, 2024
MATT BARLOW: Arsenal's captain was 15 at the time and his father was trying to filter the clamour. His phone lit up daily with proposals from Europe's biggest clubs and then came a call-up to Norway's senior squad.Football reporters began travelling across Europe to find out what the fuss was all about. 'The big danger for every young kid is that they are satisfied too quickly,' Hans-Erik Odegaard told me with the wisdom of a former footballer turned coach, as we discussed his son's future in the humble surroundings of Stromsgodset's stadium in Drammen back in August 2014. 'They need a hunger to improve.' On Saturday, precisely 10 years on, Martin Odegaard was leading Arsenal to victory at Aston Villa, looking to improve on last season.

Man United just can't kick the bad old habits they showcased last season, writes CHRIS WHEELER... when will Erik ten Hag's side learn?

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 25, 2024
CHRIS WHEELER AT THE AMEX STADIUM: Win with a late goal, lose to a late goal. One step forward, one step back. It was a trait of Erik ten Hag's turbulent second season at Manchester United, and the worrying trend has continued at the start of the new campaign. Look at the changes at Old Trafford under Ineos - to the leadership team, in the dugout and on the pitch - and it's impossible not to see progress. There is an optimism at United that extends beyond the perennial hope raised by new seasons and new signings. But old habits die hard, it seems, and Ten Hag needs to get a grip of his team before any early teething problems escalate into something altogether more serious.

Erik ten Hag SLAMS 'soft' Man United defending in defeat by Brighton after Joao Pedro was left unmarked at the far post to head in late winner

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 24, 2024
CHRIS WHEELER: Pedro was left totally unmarked in the 95th-minute to snatch a 2-1 win even though United had a total of 10 players defending in their own penalty box. 'We have to learn,' said Ten Hag. 'It is so unnecessary if you protect the goal like we do and then drop points.United's defending was also poor for Brighton's first goal by Danny Welbeck. 'We conceded two soft goals where we should act better as a team,' added Ten Hag.

Erik ten Hag is under 'an awful lot of pressure' after defeat at Brighton, claims Gary Neville... as he singles out one Man United star player for mistake in winning goal

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 24, 2024
Gary Neville (right) claims that Manchester United's last-gasp defeat at Brighton has put 'an awful lot of pressure' on boss Erik ten Hag. Despite being just two games into the new season, Neville believes pressure has now been ramped up on the Dutchman ahead of next weekend's clash with bitter rivals Liverpool. Manchester United recovered from a goal down, scored by ex-United striker Danny Welbeck, to level things up in the second half through Amad Diallo.

Brighton 2-1 Manchester United: Joao Pedro nods home 95th-minute sucker punch in Fabian Hurzeler's first game at the Amex Stadium... as Erik ten Hag's side left to rue bizarre offside incident

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 24, 2024
BRIGHTON 2-1 MANCHESTER UNITED - SAMI MOKBEL AT THE AMEX STADIUM: Cue inquest No 1 in Manchester United's season. You get the impression it won't be the last. There was almost an air of inevitability about it all when Joao Pedro slammed home a header in the 95th minute as Brighton maintained their perfect start to the season. Hope springs eternal at this part of the season. Fans believe things can be different; that their team's faults have been rectified and ironed out.

Brighton 2-1 Man United PLAYER RATINGS: Which Red Devil looked 'subdued' up top? Who was 'committed as ever' despite links with a move abroad? And which United flop got just 5/10?

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 24, 2024
CHRIS WHEELER AT THE AMEX STADIUM: Joao Pedro was Brighton's hero as he scored a 95th-minute winner to hand the Seagulls a dramatic 2-1 win over Manchester United on Saturday afternoon. Danny Welbeck gave the hosts the lead against his former club in the 32nd minute, scoring his 100th career goal in the process. He almost doubled Brighton's advantage after the break, only for his close-range header to come back off the crossbar. That miss appeared costly as moments later Amad Diallo latched onto a through ball before firing home via a deflection to bring United level.

Cameras catch Harry Maguire's five-word response to Man United team-mates after he failed to prevent Danny Welbeck giving Brighton the lead

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 24, 2024
Harry Maguire defended himself to his Man United team-mates after Erik ten Hag's side fell behind in defeat to Brighton on Saturday. Erik ten Hag named a unchanged starting XI from the one that secured victory against Fulham on the opening weekend, with Summer signing Matthijs de Ligt once again left on the bench. Instead, Maguire partnered Lisandro Martinez in the centre of defence as the rain poured down at the Amex.

Everton 0-3 Brighton: Seagulls start life under Fabian Hurzeler with resounding win as Toffees' misery is compounded with Ashley Young red card

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 17, 2024
JOE BERNSTEIN AT GOODISON PARK: The Premier League's youngest manager Fabian Hurzeler celebrated a convincing winning start to his Brighton career with goals from Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck and Simon Adingra against a thoroughly demoralised Everton. For the Merseysiders, defeat represented an awful opening day to their final season at Goodison Park and it was compounded by a red card at 2-0 for defender Ashley Young, who at 39 is eight years older than the triumphant Seagulls boss. There were boos around the ground from Evertonians at full-time. Mitoma, playing his first game since February because of a back injury, opened the scoring midway through the first half with Welbeck adding a second early in the second half. Adingra wrapped up the points late on.

PLAYER RATINGS: What a player Cole Palmer is but Reece James' season is over after silly red card… and which player has given Gareth Southgate a headache?

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 15, 2024
Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku continued Chelsea's impressive late season form by scoring as the Blues secured a 2-1 win over Brighton. Palmer put Chelsea ahead with a header after the half hour mark, notching his 22nd Premier League goal of the season following a Marc Cucurella cross. Mauricio Pochettino's side doubled their lead when Nkunku slotted home from Malo Gusto's low cross in the second half. Reece James' late red card was followed by a Brighton rally, with Danny Welbeck scoring in stoppage time for the hosts.

Brighton 1-0 Aston Villa: Joao Pedro scores late winner with rebound after missing penalty - as Unai Emery's top four hopefuls drop points

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 5, 2024
TOM PRENTKI AT THE AMEX STADIUM: This has been the most damaging week of Aston Villa's season. A shock home defeat to Olympiakos followed by a tired defeat at Brighton has put their league and European ambitions in severe jeopardy. Joao Pedro's late goal was the difference in the scoreline but the difference in performances was stark with Roberto De Zerbi's side fully deserving of victory. The goal, scored on the rebound after the excellent Robin Olsen had saved the initial effort, was the first Brighton have scored since Danny Welbeck's strike at Anfield on March 31st.

Brentford 0-0 Brighton: Roberto De Zerbi's side suffer setback in race for Europe after blunt draw at Thomas Frank's Bees

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 3, 2024
PATEL AT THE GTECH COMMUNITY STADIUM: Brighton cheaply gave the ball away midway through the second half, and Roberto De Zerbi sank to the ground of his dugout in utter annoyance. This was the kind of evening that sums up Brighton's injury-plagued season's inconsistency in a week where his team reported record earnings, where he has been linked to the Bayern Munich job, and provisionally ruled out of contention for the Liverpool vacancy. With owner Tony Bloom in the away game, as well as customary whenever they face Brentford owner Paul Benham, he would have seen a team playing with a distinctive style and certainly not lacking quality in the final third, but certainly not lacking quality. They haven't won consecutive games in the Premier League since September, and the chances are that if they can't stitch a run together between now and May, there will be no European trips next season. You only really appreciate something when it's gone. De Zerbi has made it clear that Brighton's aspirations will match his, so perhaps the same can be said about him.

After the Reds 2-1 victory over Brighton, Liverpool fans see the funny side after Darwin Nunez decides to give his shirt to a ball boy rather than to a sign-bearing supporter

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 1, 2024
Darwin Nunez defibbed one of football's recent trends by opting not to give his shirt to a sign-waving fan but to a Liverpool ball boy, much to the delight of Reds fans. Fans are now holding homemade signs requesting their favorite player to give them their shirt at the end of games, which is a common sight among football fans. After Liverpool's game against the Seagulls, where Nunez led his team to a crucial 2-1 victory, a fan was seen in the crowd requesting the Uruguayan's shirt. Yet, despite appearing to spot the sign that read 'Nunez, can I have your jersey please? The forward did not want to hand over his shirt into the crowd.' Nunez, on the other hand, was seen handing over his number 9 jersey to a lucky Liverpool ball boy, although he wasn't inclined to look in the direction of the fan's autograph.
