Riley McGuffee took the ball away from Sunderland's Danny Batth in the 25th minute before poking past Anthony Patterson to give his team the victory. Sunderland tried to get back into the game after Duncan Watmore came close in the closing stages, but they were unable to beat Liam Roberts in the Boro goal.
