A father's kneecaps shot up into his thighs after he snapped both tendons and collapsed in a heap while competing in a Strongman final, leaving him feeling like he was 'on fire'. Dan Jones had been competing at the Strongman competition in Southport on 1st September and made it through to the final, which involved carrying 80kg 20 metres to the finish line. Horrifying footage shows Mr Jones racing along, just seconds from the finish line, before collapsing in a heap as he ruptured both patellar tendons, sending his kneecaps shooting up into his quads. The 29-year-old senior IT analyst was rushed to Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Cheshire, where he was given painkillers before undergoing a gruelling five-hour op to have his tendons fused back together. The father-of-one, who has been in hospital for three weeks and has to learn how to walk again, hopes to be discharged before his 30th birthday next month.

Toxic fumes from burning nonstick pans sent over 200 people to the doctor last year with a little-known condition that temporarily causes fever, body aches and chills. There were a record 267 cases 'Teflon-flu' in the US in 2023. Cases likely haven't been this high since 2000, according to research from America's Poison Centers. There have only been 3,600 cases of suspected cases of polymer fume fever in the past couple decades. It's relatively rare condition, despite how widespread nonstick pans are.

She was eventually caught out after CCTV cameras were installed in her house to record her reportedly violent ex-partner, but she had no one visit her house on the night of one of the suspected attacks. According to Bristol Crown Court, more than 150 officers wasted their time investigating Thurley's allegations and watched more than 800 hours of CCTV video. Thurley, who suffers from a complex post-traumatic stress disorder disorder, denied the charges, but after a hearing, she was found guilty.

PC Nadia Thurley, 29, made 14 charges against 'true' Dan Jones, resulting in police spending 'extensive' funds investigating the suspected crimes. The officer was caught out after police installed clandestine CCTV cameras at her house without her knowledge in an attempt to find the suspected perpetrator. No one had been to the house, where they feared to have been attacked in days, according to them. The chief constable of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary dismissed PC Thurley today, saying he was'saddened' that an officer with firsthand knowledge of such 'horrible crimes' would'choose to lie about a violent assault.' Her felony case was described as one of the most'most serious' a police officer could face,' with investigators claiming that her 'extensive lying' has damaged public confidence in both PC Thurley and the police force.

RICHARD EDEN: The head in question was raised from a mercifully inanimate body: that of a majestic marble statue of Bonus Eventus, Roman god of good fortune. It had been 6ft 6in tall before decapitation. And, it had been at Wilton for more than 20 years before being sold by the 15th Earl of Pembroke in 1961, the 8th Earl's demise in the 1700s. The police in Rome have been alerted by the city's distraught owners. However, the guy who cut off the head was never arrested; nor did the owners, the same family that bought it from Wilton, have any idea of the head's whereabouts. Until now.

Jonathan Lewis (left) was on a family holiday in Rhodes when the fires were blown toward the coast, where he was staying. On Saturday, he decided to take action after smoke began pouring into the resort from behind a nearby mountain and ended up spending eight hours gently ferrying people to safety. Mr Lewis, a transport business based in Attleborough, Norfolk, climbed into the mountains toward Lardos, a picturesque village on the island's south-east. Meanwhile, bride-to-be Holly Butler and her future husband Dominic Hustler (top right), from Wokingham, Berkshire, arrived at the airport last night with their families. The two people are fulfilling their dream of marrying on the island, which is where they first met. Despite the fact that their TUI holiday was postponed due to the wildfires, the passengers' flights were able to marry on Wednesday. However, others have reported being compelled to sleep in schools, airports, and sports centers in Rhodes, while one tourist arrived to discover that the hotel she had reserved had burned down. Others have expressed their dissatisfaction with travel agencies' inability in knowing how the wildfires, which began on Saturday, would have an effect on holiday planning. Jess Bailey (bottom right) and her husband and two children were picked up from Bristol Airport on Saturday night to find hundreds of people in classrooms and stadiums.

For the first time since the Neanderthals were born 50,000 years ago, Comet C/2022 E3 whizzed past Earth for the first time since the Neanderthals were born 50,000 years ago. Although some stargazers in the United Kingdom were dissatisfied because of cloud cover and bad weather, others were able to see the comet, which in most cases seemed to be nothing more than a thin green smudge. Many who managed to photograph Comet C2022/E3, which was only revealed last year, were using specialist camera equipment, telescopes, or binoculars. The image left was taken on the island of Gran Canaria, Spain, while photographer Dan Jones caught the top right in Chichester.
Frenzy in the French killing fields
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 8, 2022
Battle-bloody, brutal, and perfectly pitched are Historian Jones' first foray into fiction. The Essex Dogs - a raggle-taggle, rough-and-ready group of ten mavericks led by scarred, war-weary Loveday FitzTalbot - join an advancing English force in 1346 on Normandy's beaches. It's been nine years since the Hundred Years' War started. Young Romford, nursing a heroin addiction, and on the run from his youth, as Father, a homeless and dangerously unstable priest, is caught up in the increasingly violent conflict as they head to Crecy's hellish killing fields. Jones captures the terror and ferociousness of the war as well as the Dogs' loyalty and kinship. It's a horrific, sweary, swaggering debut.
