Clarence Seedorf reveals the 'missing link' for Arsenal despite victory over PSG... as he admits Mikel Arteta's side have had a 'fear of winning'

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 1, 2024
Clarence Seedorf has claimed there is just 'one thing' preventing Arsenal from finding success under Mikel Arteta. On Tuesday night, the Gunners strolled to victory against PSG in the Champions League as goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka wrapped up a 2-0 win in north London.  It was a convincing display from the Gunners, who remain unbeaten in all competitions as they look to put an end to their search for a Premier League or Champions League title.

Footballers' calls for strikes are empty, futile noise - they should point the finger at their clubs' obsessive and self-defeating lust for money, writes IAN LADYMAN

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 19, 2024
IAN LADYMAN: They took it in turns to sit on the stage behind the microphones and rail against the system, the schedule they feel is pushing them towards injury, exhaustion and burnout. First the Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, in Milan, and then the Manchester City midfielder Rodri, at his home stadium. It felt as though it was a little pre-planned. Maybe it was. It doesn't really matter. What was a little ironic was the setting. As they sat at official press conferences before the first games of an expanded and bloated Champions League season, the manifestations of modern football's ugly, obsessive and self-defeating lust for money were all around them.

Milan legend Clarence Seedorf insists football is struggling to create equal coaching opportunities for black managers... and urges more must be done to tackle the issue

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 31, 2024
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW BY AADAM PATEL: Clarence Seedorf insists that football has a problem when it comes to equal opportunities for black managers and has called for more action to be taken. 'Unfortunately, there is a gap of opportunity for black coaches. It's still an issue,' Seedorf told Mail Sport. 'I've not been working (as a coach since 2019) but I have not had many more offers. How is that for someone with my career? I'm not saying that a good playing career brings good clubs necessarily, but the lack of opportunity is an issue. It's not just me. Look at the likes of Thierry Henry (top left inset), Sol Campbell (centre top inset), Edgar Davids, Patrick Kluivert (bottom left inset) and so on.' The Dutchman is the only player to have won the Champions League with three different clubs and took the AC Milan job in 2014 after retiring but was sacked after four months by his former club. He hasn't had a coaching role since 2019 when he managed Cameroon.

Alan Shearer insists footballers are reaching 'BREAKING POINT' due to a congested schedule - as the Newcastle legend claims the number of games is leaving top stars 'knackered'

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 19, 2024
AADAM PATEL: The likes of Alan Shearer, Clarence Seedorf and Daniel Sturridge insist that football is close to a 'breaking point' in terms of player welfare with the current schedule also affecting quality. The Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) announced in June that with the support of players' union FIFPRO, they have joined a legal action against FIFA over the 'overloaded and unworkable' football calendar. Speaking at a Prime Video event in London launching their coverage of the new Champions League format, which will see teams play two more group stage matches, former England striker Shearer said: 'There's no doubt that there's too many games for the top international players to keep on going and going,'

He told Geoff Shreeves on his podcast Football, Music and Me: 'I used to wear my Leicester socks underneath my Forest kit, just to know that I wasn't being too disloyal.' Serge, whose band this week released a new summer anthem titled Coming Back To Me For Good, has been a loyal supporter of Leicester his whole life and admits he got carried away at a few away games.

IAN HERBERT: Brazil are the Beatles of football, but there is a murky reason why they have not been here more

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 22, 2024
IAN HERBERT: Pele, the 25-year-old boy who stepped out from a wooden cabin on Scotland's west coast in 1966, was immaculately dressed as the Brazilian football team was back then, boots polished to a shine, and white towel in hand. He was already a superstar on his own when he competed for the Jules Rimet trophy on English soil in July, but the Brazilian team had to prepare for Troon's improvable surrounds. The climate was supposed to suit them, but the Marine, a fine hotel, was still standing two miles up the road today, although it was not made clear that it would. They were unemployed, according to the news. It was the talk of a hosiery factory near Kilmarnock, where Elsie Cook, a knitter, became aware of the alert when one of the company's mechanics noticed it while trying to repair one of the machines.

Man United 'legends' return to Dubai for a game, with some of them unrecognizable (and some you may not recognize at all). How many can YOU name - and who are the rogue agents among them?

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 22, 2023
On Saturday, a group of Manchester United legends arrived in Dubai for a dressing-room photo as they took part in an 11-goal thriller against a World XI. The match opened the inaugural Legends Football League, and it didn't disappoint as a spectacle, with United eventually losing 8-3. However, that couldn't put the smile off the faces of their former actors who played a role in Sir Alex Ferguson's team's becoming the dominant force in English football.

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 9, 2023
BY WILL PICKWORTH IN ISTANBUL: If Pep Guardiola or Simone Inzaghi want to lift the Champions League on Saturday, they may do a lot worse than asking one particular former Dutch footballer. Clarence Seedorf, who broke into Ajax at 16 years old, went on to be one of the best midfielders of his generation. He is certainly the most well-known Dutch star of all time, winning 18 titles in his career in four separate nations. This is a man who has won four Champions League titles and is the first and only player to win the coveted competition with three different clubs within a remarkable run.

Italian football clubs are back on top but don't expect Serie A's revival to last very long

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 20, 2023
TOM COLLOMOSSE: The week's events in European football make it tempting to believe we're back to the early 1990s, when the Italian game ruled the world. The final of this season's Champions League will be contested by AC Milan or Inter Milan, Juventus have qualified to the Europa League's semi-finals, and Fiorentina and Fiorentina are in the Europa Conference League semis. Italian football is making its way back.

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 14, 2022
With the World Cup coming to an end, one of the tournament's most popular topics has been the debating of the sport 'padel' by several of football's top players. Padel is the world's fastest-growing racket sport, and it is becoming more popular among retired footballers. Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the founder of Premier Padel and the highest level of professional padel, has stepped up to fulfill the request by staging a daily tournament during the 2022 World Cup, with stars including Kaka, Clarence Seedorf, and Brazilian Ronaldo competing.

Louis van Gaal returned as Holland coach last year with this World Cup likely to be his last dance

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 21, 2022
Van Gaal, a boy no older than 12, looks like his typical jovial self debating with the child's shared suspicion of the media. The boy claims, 'This is the stupid media.' 'That is the stupid media,' Van Gaal says. 'I think you've heard me talking about them,' he says.' They will discuss the young boy's own playing exploits before proceeding to address the kid's own playing exploits. The boy tells the legendary Dutch coach, 'I'm also a good actor.' 'What position?' He asks. 'Right-back.'

Louis van Gaal's last dance!A look back at the Holland manager's career ahead of the World Cup

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 5, 2022
Louis van Gaal has seen most things in football, but after being forced to bow out of retirement for one last shot at glory with Holland, he now has the opportunity to finish his glittering managerial career with the ultimate triumph. The Dutchman is now in his third term as the head of the national team, having previously ruled Holland from 2000-2001 to 2012-2014. This winter's World Cup in Qatar looks to be Van Gaal's last dance, at 71 and after recently fighting an aggressive form of prostate cancer. No one would begrudge him for lowering the trophy.
