Standing by Kate's side, the Prince of Wales, 42, sported an unusually rugged look, with an unshaven appearance as he praised the British Olympians ahead of the end of the Paris Olympics. The Princess, who is continuing to undergo cancer treatment, was positively glowing in her latest appearance in a special video shot for Team GB featuring a host of well-known personalities. But for some royal fans, they couldn't take their eyes off of William and his beard, with one person writing on X: 'Prince William with his stubble is hot.' It is not the first time the Prince has dabbled in facial hair; in 2008 he sent hearts a-flutter by growing a beard for the festive season, claiming that strangers failed to recognise him.

Television star Fred, 52, shot to fame in 2013 on the Channel 4 dating show and has since appeared on cooking programmes with Gordon Ramsay and Gino D'Acampo and I'm A Celebrity . Revealed: Irish Olympic hero Daniel Wiffen appeared as an actor in iconic Game of Thrones episode as Leeds-born swimmer secures second podium place in Paris

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 5, 2024
Daniel Wiffen, who added a bronze in the men's 1500m freestyle to his sensational 800m gold earlier this week, was also an actor in Game of Thrones. The Team Ireland star tasted glory on Tuesday in emphatic style by breaking the Olympic record with a blistering time of 7 minutes 38.19 seconds. In doing so, he became the first Northern Irish athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in 36 years and the crowd at Paris's La Defense Arena erupted as he clinched victory. He then followed up the historic success with another podium finish this evening and was beaten by a world record time of 14mins 30.67secs from USA's Bobby Finke. But Olympic fans have now discovered that this is not the first time Wiffen has been at the centre of high drama unfolding on TV.

After Gary Lineker at the Euros, Clare Balding is a reminder to the BBC of what the gold standard of broadcasting looks like, writes HENRY CLARK

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 2, 2024
HENRY CLARK: Week one of the Olympics and all eyes have been on the pool. Dinner for TV viewers isn't complete without another bolt of electricity from the mighty Leon Marchand, the darling of the home crowd and hero of these Games. Across prime-time viewing on the BBC, Marchand isn't the only one dominating our screens. Clare Balding - now in her eighth Olympics - has reminded us why she is now the gold standard of sports broadcasting in the UK. Following a Euros when Gary Lineker could not resist making himself the centre of attention by calling England 's***' on his money-spinning podcast, his BBC colleague has reminded us how it should be done. With elegance, knowledge, insight and charm. She has taken us along for the ride next to broadcasting sidekicks and former elite swimmers Mark Foster and Rebecca Adlington. Viewers trust her to help them wade through the complexities of the sport and introduce them to new stars.

Murray told reporters before the tournament it would be the last professional of his career, as he plans for life after tennis.

Depression and alcohol... Adam Peaty's comeback at the Paris Olympics is still a parable for our times, writes DAVID JONES

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 28, 2024
DAVID JONES: No matter that he touched the board two one-hundredths of a second - about the width of an unclipped fingernail - behind the dark-horse Italian who snatched gold. Drinking in the electric atmosphere at the Olympic swimming arena as he prepared to mount his starting platform last evening, Adam Peaty might have reflected that he was already the real winner. As Clare Balding remarked after he was consigned to a silver medal by the narrowest of margins, many will think it was his 'greatest triumph of all to be here, competing'. All those who have followed the roller-coaster fortunes of this remarkable Olympian will know what she meant. For after suffering a 'breakdown', in 2023, Peaty felt compelled to take a break from swimming and focus on a more pressing race: against his own demons. His chances even of making it to Paris then seemed zero.

Agonisingly, Peaty missed out on gold by just 0.02 seconds and had to settle for silver along with Nic Fink of the USA.

British bankers are fed up with their slacking European counterparts... but can't get rid of the 'deadwood': How Brexit drove London firms to Paris and Frankfurt - but strict employment laws stop bosses from firing lazy workers

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 22, 2024
Europe's strict labour laws have become a haven for lazy bankers who can't be fired by their bosses, leaving their colleagues back in Britain furious. European financial hubs like Paris and Frankfurt were bolstered by Brexit, with many London firms having opted to hire workers across the Channel. However, now top executives are starting to regret their expansion in Europe after coming up against the EU's strict employment laws - with angry UK bankers claiming the rules have made it impossible for firms to sack 'deadweight' underperformers. One senior figure claimed the bank they were working in, which has not been named, had 'people in Paris that they've wanted to get rid of for 10 years'. Meanwhile, any attempt to change the laws have sparked fierce protests in Paris (pictured right) - with bankers fearing Labour could bring in a French-style employment law to Britain.

Give staff time off to watch the Olympics because it's 'exciting', Acas tells bosses: Pimlico Plumbers owner slams 'ridiculous' advice

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 22, 2024
Conciliatory service Acas suggested businesses put agreements in place covering requests for time off, sickness absence or watching TV during the Paris Olympics which start next week. Employees could come in a little later or finish earlier and then agree when this time can be made up and be allowed to listen to events on the radio or watch the TV, said Acas. Chief executive Susan Clews said: 'Paris 2024 will be an exciting event for many sports fans but staff should avoid getting disqualified for unreasonable demands or behaviour in the workplace during this period. For many businesses, maintaining a certain staffing level is critical in order to survive and sprint to that finish line.'

The day I hid from Princess Anne (but she spotted me!) Steve Cram's embarrassing encounter is just one of the surreal Olympic memories from the BBC's top presenters as they prepare to bring you all the action from Paris

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 19, 2024

Gold medals for shirking! Workshy France's labour laws mean BBC stars including Clare Balding and Gabby Logan will be BANNED from doing their normal dawn-till-dusk presenting at the Olympics (and the crews will have to put their feet up too)

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 19, 2024
It comes as the working time directive dictates that employees must have a minimum of 11-hours between shifts. The BBC's coverage finishes late and athletics events begin at 9am locally, meaning the laws cannot be met with one presenter. As a result, Jeanette Kwakye, JJ Chalmers and Hazel Irvine will front the early shows instead.

Princess Anne seen in unearthed footage training for the 1972 Olympics - before her hopes of competing were dashed... as she recovers from 'temporary memory loss' after being hit on the head by a horse

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 25, 2024
Unearthed news footage from March 1972 shows the Princess Royal training on her horse Doublet for the Badminton Horse Trials the following month and ultimately the Munich Games that summer. Sadly, her hopes of competing at Badminton and that year's Olympics - which are now remembered for the horrifying terrorist attack that left 11 Israeli athletes dead - were dashed when Doublet got injured. Instead, she had to wait until the 1976 Games in Montreal to take part, but ultimately did not win a medal in the equestrian three-day event. Anne is currently recovering in hospital with concussion after it was thought she was hit on the head by a horse at her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire on Sunday. Because of the injuries she sustained, she is unable to recall exactly what happened.

Anne's agony after horse accident horror: Princess will 'hate' to miss public engagements after 'being hit by horse's head or legs' - as Charles sends touching message to his sister in hospital

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 24, 2024
Princess Anne will 'hate' having to miss a series of engagements this week after suffering head injuries and concussion, a former staff member told MailOnline today. The Princess Royal is being treated at Southmead Hospital in Bristol after she is said to have been kicked by a horse on her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire. The 73-year-old royal, a skilled horsewoman who competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, was going for a walk yesterday evening when the incident occurred. Emergency services were sent to the estate and, after being given medical care at the scene, Anne was transferred to hospital for tests, treatment and observation. She will now have to miss at least nine engagements this week including a trip to Canada and the state banquet for the Japanese State Visit in London tomorrow. Anne has often been dubbed the 'hardest-working royal', and a former staff member who worked closely with her for several years told MailOnline today: 'She'll hate it. But she's an amazing woman and will quickly bounce back. No one would ever dare to tell her to slow down when I was there and I doubt it will change even after this.'

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 24, 2024
Princess Anne has suffered 'minor injuries and concussion' after an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate last night and remains in hospital, it was announced today. Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery. The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery.'

Princess Anne's other horse riding accidents: From breaking finger as a schoolgirl to cracking vertebra and being knocked unconscious when her steed fell on her - and the time Clare Balding 'nearly killed' the royal during a race

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 24, 2024
Princess Anne 's injury involving a horse is just the latest example of how she has been hurt indulging her passion. The Princess Royal, 73, was injured yesterday at her Gatcombe Park estate and is being treated in hospital for concussion and minor injuries to her head. It comes nearly 60 years on from when she cracked a bone in her finger in December 1964 (inset) after getting it caught in the rein while riding a horse at her school in Benenden, Kent, aged 14. Then, more seriously, she was knocked unconscious and cracked a vertebra when her horse fell on her at the Portman Horse Trials in Dorset in April 1976 (right). Anne also suffered concussion and bruises but was told by doctors that the hairline crack in her back was not serious enough to stop her from competing at the Montreal Olympics that summer. In 1973, she had to withdraw from the European Eventing Championships being held in Kyiv, Ukraine, after falling from her horse and landing on her face. Two years later, in April 1975, she was thrown into the River Avon when her horse, Mardi Gras, failed a jump. In 1982 (left), she ended up in the water at the Badminton Horse Trials

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Might King Charles be missing a creamy cheese board on his latest trip to France, after sounding forth on roquefort and other treats on a previous visit?

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 7, 2024
EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: The King's taste buds, blunted by his cancer treatment, prohibit the temptations of the cheese board on his visit to France. Fromage is one of his passions. On a 2015 trip to Paris he railed against threats to cheese production declaring: 'Will this obsession with accreditation, categorisation, homogenisation and pasteurisation bring with it the emasculation of robust old roquefort, camembert, reblochon and even the runny vacherin?
