MAN UNITED CONFIDENTIAL: Erik ten Hag's £200,000 'wall of secrecy', players puzzled by manager's rotation policy and how Lithuania trip is helping to pay for a stadium

MAN UNITED CONFIDENTIAL: Erik ten Hag could be forgiven for circling the wagons amid his latest crisis as Manchester United manager, and no expense has been spared to grant the Dutchman's wishes. A giant white wall has been erected at Carrington to hide United's training sessions from prying eyes and shield Ten Hag's squad from the elements while a £50million upgrade forces them to practise in a more exposed area of the complex. The wall, sanctioned by Ineos and the leadership group, was installed in the last fortnight at the request of the manager. United sources assure Confidential that it simply gives Ten Hag and his players the privacy and protection they had on the old first-team training pitch.
How isolated Erik ten Hag hurtled to the brink again at Man Utd: Inside the dressing room who believe he's on borrowed time, with a ready-made replacement looming after two crucial problems were not fixed this summer

CHRIS WHEELER: It was still dark when Erik ten Hag drove into Carrington on Monday morning with the storm clouds once again gathering over Manchester United's beleaguered manager. Sunday's 3-0 capitulation against Tottenham at Old Trafford has plunged Ten Hag back into crisis just six games into the new Premier League season. United have lost half of them and are languishing in the bottom half of the table with a negative goal difference. Unless results improve quickly, Ten Hag is facing the sack just three-and-a-half months after a delegation from co-owners Ineos led by Sir Dave Brailsford flew to his holiday home in Ibiza to tell the Dutchman he was keeping his job, and a month after he was given a vote of confidence by new chief executive Omar Berrada. How has it unravelled again so quickly? After reshaping the leadership team and coaching staff, and spending another £200million on new signings in the summer, why can't Ten Hag produce a winning team? Mail Sport looks at the issues behind the scenes that have pushed the United boss back to the brink again.

Erik ten Hag is out of excuses. His time is UP. United's attitude stinks of entitlement and the manager cannot eradicate it, writes OLIVER HOLT after their embarrassing 3-0 defeat at home by Tottenham
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 29, 2024
MANCHESTER UNITED 0-3 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR - OLIVER HOLT AT OLD TRAFFORD: The truth is that Ten Hag is out of excuses. His time is up. There is no hiding place for him any more. His boasts about winning minor trophies are worthless when his team plays like this. Let's be honest about what United stand for as we enter the autumn of the year: no philosophy, no identity, no discipline, no guile, no pattern, no determination, no adventure, no belief, no subtlety, no desire, no intent, no plan. Apart from that, everything's fine. United's attitude stinks. Entitlement runs through them and Ten Hag simply cannot eradicate it, however big he talks and however tough he acts.

While the Dutch outfit were lauding an impressive result against one of the competition favourites, familiar noises were beginning to emerge from the Man United camp.

CHRIS WHEELER: Erik ten Hag admits that Manchester United need to show more hunger after they were criticised for failing to match FC Twente's effort in Wednesday's Europa League draw at Old Trafford. Both Ten Hag and goalscorer Christian Eriksen acknowledged that their Dutch opponents 'wanted it more', and the United boss called for his players to show the right attitude in every game. 'We should be (more hungry) that is what we demand from each other on a consistent basis,' said Ten Hag, who also offered some defence for his players.

Owen Hargreaves believes Manchester United must 'find a way to get results' ahead of a daunting run of matches following an underwhelming start to their Europa League campaign. The Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Twente on Wednesday night, with the Dutch side hitting back through Sam Lammers after Christian Eriksen's opener. Erik ten Hag's side have won three of the opening seven matches of the season, earning victories against Fulham and Southampton in the Premier League - as well as a crushing 7-0 win over League One side Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
Erik ten Hag blasts his 'complacent' Man United side for 'keeping Twente alive' during their disheartening Europa League draw... and says his team were punished by their own mistakes
www.dailymail.co.uk,

Erik ten Hag vented his frustration at his Manchester United players for keeping Dutch opponent FC Twente 'alive' in Wednesday's disappointing 1-1 Europa League draw at Old Trafford. The United coach watched on miserably as his side unravelled in the second-half against his former club and eventually conceded a cheap goal after a passage of poor team defending. Twente scored a dream goal upon their return to European competition after more than a decade away when full-back Bart van Rooij went on a monstrous run past four United players on his way to the edge of the box.

DOMINIC HOGAN: Christian Eriksen had a game of two halves scoring a stunning opener in the first half for Manchester United, before making an awful error which led to FC Twente's equaliser on Wednesday night. But there was plenty to be excited about for United fans, with one of their stars playing like a young Neymar Jnr, thrilling throughout the game. And which summer signing is sure to become a fan favourite at Old Trafford in no time at all after a performance of dogged determination in chasing down the ball?

United's European campaign got off to a sluggish start at Old Trafford on Wednesday night after Sam Lammers struck to cancel out Eriksen's first-half opener. Eriksen had pounced on a loose ball and swept into the top corner - his third goal in a week - but the hosts were guilty of making several sloppy errors before Lammers tucked a neat finish inside Andre Onana's near post on 68 minutes. Raucous celebrations in the away end greeted the final whistle while the under-fire Erik ten Hag was forced to settle for a sole point against his former club.

Christian Eriksen insists he never considered leaving Man United after Real Betis deadline day loan deal fell through - as midfielder reflects on 'confidence boost' of scoring two goals against Barnsley
www.dailymail.co.uk,

Christian Eriksen says he never considered leaving Manchester United this summer after helping Erik ten Hag 's side overcome a faltering start to the new season. The Denmark international had a bit-part role last term as he only made 14 starts, and United turned down an offer from Real Betis to take him on loan on transfer deadline day. But Eriksen returned to the starting line-up in Saturday's win at Southampton as United recovered from back-to-back defeats to Liverpool and Brighton , and then scored twice in the 7-0 mauling of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. The 32-year-old former Tottenham player insists he is settled at United and would only have left if the club had wanted him to go.

Having bounced back from damaging Premier League losses to Brighton and Liverpool with a 3-0 win at Southampton on Saturday, attention switched to the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. MAN UNITED 7-0 BARNSLEY - CHRIS WHEELER AT OLD TRAFFORD: It was only Barnsley in the Carabao Cup, but this was more like it from Manchester United. Erik ten Hag's side played with a swagger and confidence that deserted them for so much of last season, even in games like these. So they should. Even allowing for two free transfers and three homegrown players, United's line-up against a team lying seventh in League One who hadn't won at Old Trafford for more than a century was worth over £300million - and that was before Ten Hag threw on a wealth of talent from the bench. It was one of those nights that have been all too rare for the Dutchman; nights when he could rotate his squad, throw in a couple debutants, and sit back and enjoy watching his team play to the sum of its parts.

Man United's showdown with Liverpool will kick off in a late slot after Premier League's £7m 'sweetener' to police - but high-risk fixture starts half an hour earlier than TV bosses wanted
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 28, 2024
EXCLUSIVE BY MIKE KEEGAN: Sunday's high risk fixture starts half an hour earlier than TV bosses wanted amid concerns from the local force. Mail Sport revealed in January the competition was to pay various constabularies around £7million in what some viewed as a not-so-discreet attempt to allow big matches to take place in the more lucrative later broadcast slots. And the gift, which league officials say was made as a 'thank you' rather than to facilitate kick-off times, appears to have done the trick. However, this weekend's Old Trafford clash will start at 4pm instead of the 4.30pm slot preferred by Sky officials. It is, at least, half an hour later than April's game between the two sides which kicked off at 3.30pm.
