USA Track & Field is SLAMMED by legendary Olympic sprinter Carl Lewis after another disaster in 4X100 relay: 'Time to blow up the system!'

A disappointing day for USA Track & Field at the Paris Olympics only got worse as legendary sprinter Carl Lewis took aim at coaches after another disaster in the 4X100 relay. Racing without Noah Lyles , who is battling COVID-19 , Team USA was disqualified for an illegal pass when Christian Coleman crashed into teammate Kenny Bednarek during the first handoff of Friday's final. Canada would go on to win gold in 37.50 seconds. The United States men have not medaled in the 4X100 relay at the Olympics since a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Games. The Americans last won gold in 2000 in Sydney , when they were anchored by Maurice Greene. 'It is time to blow up the system,' Lewis, a two-time gold medalist in the 4X100, wrote on X. 'This continues to be completely unacceptable. It is clear that EVERYONE at @usatf is more concerned with relationships than winning. No athlete should step on the track and run another relay until this program is changed from top to bottom.' The criticism was not a surprise.

NIK SIMON AT THE STADE DE FRANCE: They came out like a team ready for the Parisian catwalk but the runway proved to be a little slippery. Team GB's women won gold for style as they entered the arena and in time they may feel a collective frustration that they did not win the gold that matters. Having claimed bronze in Rio and Tokyo, this was the night the 4x100m team hoped to discover the alchemist's touch. They were in first position at the halfway point but after two anxious handovers they had to settle for silver. True to style, they lapped it up as they paraded the perimeter of the track draped in Union flags. Second place is nothing to be sniffed at - their best finish since 1956 - but the most elusive prize of them all still deserts them.

Day 14 of the summer games got off to a great start for Great Britain as Toby Roberts, 19, secured the country's first-ever climbing medal at the Olympics and a 14th British gold this summer. There were hopes more gold medals would follow, namely on the athletics track where Katarina Johnson-Thompson looked poised to clinch the top spot in the woman's heptathlon. But 31-year-old had to settle for silver after failing to overturn a sizeable deficit in tonight's 800m finale. Elsewhere, in the velodrome Elinor Barker and Neah Evans were unable to defend Team GB's women's madison title, instead coming away with another silver in the grueling team event.
