A disappointing day for USA Track & Field at the Paris Olympics only got worse as legendary sprinter Carl Lewis took aim at coaches after another disaster in the 4X100 relay. Racing without Noah Lyles , who is battling COVID-19 , Team USA was disqualified for an illegal pass when Christian Coleman crashed into teammate Kenny Bednarek during the first handoff of Friday's final. Canada would go on to win gold in 37.50 seconds. The United States men have not medaled in the 4X100 relay at the Olympics since a silver medal at the 2004 Athens Games. The Americans last won gold in 2000 in Sydney , when they were anchored by Maurice Greene. 'It is time to blow up the system,' Lewis, a two-time gold medalist in the 4X100, wrote on X. 'This continues to be completely unacceptable. It is clear that EVERYONE at @usatf is more concerned with relationships than winning. No athlete should step on the track and run another relay until this program is changed from top to bottom.' The criticism was not a surprise.

Elsewhere, in the velodrome Elinor Barker and Neah Evans were unable to defend Team GB's women's madison title, instead coming away with another silver in the grueling team event.

Sha'Carri Richardson and Christian Coleman fired a warning shot to their rivals ahead of this summer's Paris Olympics with 100 meter victory at the Prefontaine Classic. Richardson won the women's race in 10.83 seconds, while Coleman clocked a season-best 9.95 to win the men's 100.  Earlier, Kenyan Beatrice Chebet set a world record in the 10,000m with a time of 28 minutes, 54.14 seconds.

Aussie runner Jessica Hull smashed the Australian 1500m record and beat out a host of talented competitors to stamp her credentials as a Paris Olympics medal contender. Hull, 27, reclaimed the Australian 1500m mark by finishing second to Ethiopian Diribe Welteji in three minutes 55.97 seconds at the Eugene Diamond League. Among the runners left in Hull's wake were third-placed American Elle St Pierre and Britain's Laura Muir, the Tokyo Olympics silver medallist.

DAVID COVERDALE AT THE EMIRATES ARENA, GLASGOW: On Friday night, the villain defeated the hero, despite American rival Noah Lyles to win world indoor gold in Glasgow. Coleman set a record holder in the 60 meters final after recovering from an 18-month suspension for missing three drug samples. Lyles, the world 100 meters and 200m champion, had to settle for silver in 6.44 seconds, indicating the danger his countryman would face him at the Paris Olympics.
