It's a Wimbledon love match! How host of tennis couples will take to the famous lawns at SW19, from men's World No 1 Jannik Sinner and his Russian girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya, to Britain's No 1 Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur

Wimbledon is underway but when umpires utter 'love' it will mean more than just 'nil' for many of those taking part in the prestigious tennis tournament. SW19 has been the setting for plenty of romances between players over the years - Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf began dating in 1999, the year they were both French Open champions, and are still married more than 20 years later. Chris Evert and Jimmy Connors captivated fans with their off-court affair. Although they never made it down the aisle, they were dubbed 'The Lovebird Double' when they both won Wimbledon in 1974. While the trend for players dating has not been a prominent feature of the game as it once was, it appears to have now made a comeback with a number of tennis 'it couples' gracing Wimbledon's hallowed lawns. Anabel Croft, former player turned BBC pundit, said recently: 'It's fun to watch and people love gossip. Tennis players have a circus lifestyle. It helps that your partner knows how difficult your losses are.' Leading the way is Italian world number one Jannik Sinner who is dating Russian Anna Kalinskaya and have been dubbed the game's new 'power couple.'
Why tennis stars sport the best bling: You can match Wimbledon's centre court designer jewellery at ace High Street prices...
www.dailymail.co.uk,
June 30, 2024
When Chris Evert's gold and diamond bracelet came unclasped and flew across the court during a long rally in the 1978 U.S. Open, the concept of the tennis bracelet was officially born. And that confirmed something most people had always suspected about tennis: it really is a sartorial cut above other sports. While footballers have their on-trend haircuts and basketball players dominated the trainer trends, many of the most notable tennis stars - both male and female - express themselves through designer jewellery and watches. And with Rolex sponsoring Wimbledon for more than four decades and Tiffany & Co 'the official Trophy partner' to the U.S. Open, it's no wonder some of that bling filters through to the players. But what might be surprising to those of us scolded for wearing jewellery during school PE lessons is that on-court jewellery is always on trend. Here's how today's leading women players style their jewels - and how to get their look for less.
WTA enters 'multi-year partnership' with Saudi Arabia's PIF after landing Tour Finals... as sovereign wealth fund continues their tennis takeover with rankings sponsorship
www.dailymail.co.uk,
May 21, 2024
MATTHEW LAMBERT: The odd-couple alliance between Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund and the women's tennis association has been strengthened as the two unveiled a 'multi-year partnership'. Last month the Kingdom confirmed the best-kept secret in tennis that the WTA Finals event would be held in Riyadh for the next three years. And now the Saudi's PIF will sponsor the WTA's rankings - they already sponsor the men's rankings - in addition to a more vague brief to 'support their shared ambition to grow women's professional tennis and inspire more women and girls around the world to take up the game'.
Martina Navratilova likens staging the WTA Tour Finals in Saudi Arabia to hosting the event in North Korea as she slams the controversial move and vows not to go as a pundit
www.dailymail.co.uk,
April 21, 2024
Martina Navratilova has said that the decision to stage the women's tennis end-of-season finals in Saudi Arabia is as shocking as taking them to North Korea and that she does not intend to work on them as a pundit. The 67-year-old and former rival Chris Evert had urged the game's women to think carefully before agreeing to the WTA finals going to the Saudi city of Jeddah from this year until 2026. But the deal was struck with Saudi Arabia anyway. Navratilova, speaking at the Laureus Awards event in Madrid said that decision placed the game at mercy of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, known as MBS.
A backlash has erupted as Saudi Arabia participates in the Women's Tennis Association Tour Finals, with athletes and ex-pros expressing human rights concerns over a historic cash transfer
www.dailymail.co.uk,
April 4, 2024
The Women's Tennis Association has reported a contentious decision to bring their crown-jewel tournament to Saudi Arabia, with a historic prize fund of £12 million a year. For the next three years, the kingdom will host the WTA Tour Finals, which will feature the season's best eight singles players and doubles teams. The move has long been anticipated and the WTA was close to hosting the event last year in Saudi Arabia before a late transfer to Cancun in Mexico. That throwing-together incident in Riyadh in November was an unintended tragedy, and there should be no repeat of it.
After tennis legends said hosting the WTA Finals in Riyadh would be a "significant step backward to the detriment of not only women's sport, but also women," the Saudi ambassador takes aim at Marina Navratilova and Chris Evert for their "outdated" views
www.dailymail.co.uk,
January 30, 2024
Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert's ambassador to the United States has prompted concerns about the possibility of staging the WTA Finals in Riyadh "outdated stereotypes and western-centric interpretations of our history." Saudi Arabia, according to reports, could be in line to host the WTA's showpiece event, which was held in Cancun last year. Navratilova and Evert said that taking the WTA's season-ending tournament to Saudi Arabia would be a'significant step backward to the detriment not only of women's sport, but also of women's.

Chris Evert has been diagnosed with cancer for the second time in the last two years. While recovering from injury, the Tennis Hall of Famer said she would not be able to watch the Australian Open for ESPN while receiving medical attention. 'I never wanted to hear this diagnosis, but I'm happy that it was early,' Evert said in a statement published by ESPN. In the same pelvic region, doctors discovered cancer cells.' All cells were discarded, and I have started a new round of chemotherapy.' In December of 2021, the 68-year-old Evert was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She underwent chemotherapy in May 2022, reminding the world that her doctor was positive that the disease would not return because it was caught early. Evert is the 18th Grand Slam singles champion. As the kingdom extends its clout in another field, the WTA Finals are expected to migrate to Saudi Arabia, but the decision is likely to spark controversies in tennis

MIKE DICKSON: Saudi Arabia's increasingly aggressive efforts into golf are likely to be followed by a decision to move the women's tennis tournament's year-end finals to the United Kingdom. Mail Sport reports that both sides have reached an agreement to transfer the WTA Finals to Saudi and is just waiting for the signatures of both parties, with repercussions from Jon Rahm's switch to LIV. However, it's a worry that any of the women's game's legends will react, particularly Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova's legendary pair.

ROLAND WHITE: Are they secret monarchists at Channel 4? You wouldn't expect so from the station's cheeky 'alternative' Christmas greeting or last month's alternative coronation coverage. However, Elizabeth Through A Lens (Ch4), the Red Arrows' television equivalent of bunting, street parties, and a fly-past, was on display last night. An interview with Paddington Bear was all that was missing. This was supposed to be about the late Queen's relationship with the camera lens in theory. 'Elizabeth II was without question the most photographed and well-filmed woman that ever lived,' one expert said.
