John Murtough arrived at Man United nicknamed 'The Fixer' but leaves as the figurehead of their dismal demise, writes NATHAN SALT

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 9, 2024
NATHAN SALT: John Murtough is a studious character who, for the most part, has liked operating in the shadows. 'The Fixer' was the nickname affixed to him by some staff at Carrington. From when he joined the academy set-up in 2013 through to his decision to step down later this week, he had a knack of getting things done. But there are no hiding places at United, no shadows in which to mask shortcomings in. Not when Ineos walked into United with a bright bulb flashlight to scrutinise every inch of the football operation. He leaves as a figurehead of United's recent demise; a chaotic recruitment strategy that has seen £518million spent on his watch as director of football, leaving a team left on the pitch that lacks both an identity and the sufficient talent to win the biggest trophies.

Charlotte Jackson-Coleman, 45, (left), said she discovered the enigmatic creature (right) on the prowl near a village while walking a stroll. The animal is seen in a video clip, with the creature, which has distinctive spotted markings, lurking behind a tree and staring at Jackson-Coleman and her Yorkiepoo before he runs away as she approaches. Its shape and patterned coat are reminiscent of a Serval - a wild cat that is native to Africa and stands at around 2 feet tall. The shooting took place in Easton, Hampshire, just outside Winchester. One of the species at Nearby Marwell Zoo is a male.

It's been 64 years but what happened last time Wales reached the World Cup?

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 14, 2022
Taking a look back at Wales' record over the past six years, it's easy to forget that the country has a long and painful tradition when it comes to international competitions. Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey, and Joe Allen have spearheaded a team that has qualified for three of the last four major tournaments, a better record than traditional powerhouses Italy and Holland. But Hal Robson-Kanu briefly became possessed of Johan Cruyff against Belgium at Euro 2016, Chris Coleman's vain side made their first appearance at a European Championship, and this was only their first appearance at a European Championship.
