Stanley Cup Final 2024: Edmonton Oilers look to finally snap Canada's 31-year drought, while the Florida Panthers desperately chase their first ever title... but who comes out on top?

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 8, 2024
Whichever way the 2024 Stanley Cup Final ends, a drought will be ended for one of the two teams in it. On one side there's the Florida Panthers - a team who has been this far twice and has fallen both times: once in 1996 to the Colorado Avalanche and last year to the Vegas Golden Knights. Then there's the Edmonton Oilers - who haven't touched the Stanley Cup since 1990. They also carry the burden of Canada upon their shoulders, as the Great White North hasn't hoisted the trophy in 31 years.

The Miami Heat, the Panthers, and the Rays: The new home of US sports is Florida

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 3, 2023
Not since Boston and Los Angeles in 2020 has the sports world's attention and curiosity been so concentrated on one area of America as Florida in 2023. The Boston Red Sox were reigning World Series champions, the New England Patriots were Super Bowl champions, and the Boston Bruins had reached the Stanley Cup Finals by the summer of 2019. The following year was devoted to Los Angeles, where the Dodgers snapped a 32-year championship drought ended and the Lakers claimed their first NBA title in the bubble.

The Stanley Cup Finals will be decided between an underdog Florida Panthers squad and a tenacious Vegas Golden Knights squad

Many hockey fans were not expecting a second all-Sun Belt Stanley Cup Final in NHL history. Boston was the best regular season squad in the league's history going into the playoffs. They were knocked out by the worst team that made it in. Canada wished that they would win their first Stanley Cup since 1993. Rather, the Jets were quickly dismissed and the Maple Leafs and Oilers' star power was snuffed out.

After falling behind 3-1 in the best-of-seven series, the Panthers won three straight. Boston, the Presidents' Trophy winners with NHL records of 65 wins and 135 points, had not lost three in a row all season.

NHL PLAYOFF ROUNDUP: Panthers SHOCK top-seeded Bruins with four third-period goals

The top-seeded Bruins instead tried to beat Florida players with their fists at the end of their 6-3 loss in Boston on Wednesday night, failing to beat the Panthers in rules. The surprising result ended their first-round series at 1-1, igniting tensions between the Panthers and the heavily favored Bruins, who suffered a third-period defeat on Wednesday while yielding four goals in the frame. As Bruins fans marched away from the exits in the game's waning moments, Boston's Trent Frederic was seen tangling with Florida's Ryan Lomberg in other fights. Brandon Montour broke a 2-2 tie in the third period, Carter Verhaeghe scored another for Florida, and Eetu Luostarinen added an empty netter for second, making it 6-2.
