Caoimhin Kelleher has vowed to give Liverpool manager Arne Slot a headache by putting on another man-of-the-match display against Chelsea . Kelleher defied the Londoners in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley in 2022, capping his stellar performance by scoring the winning penalty in the shootout. He also kept another clean sheet when Jurgen Klopp 's kids lifted the trophy last season against the same opponents. Now 25, the Irishman has a chance to further impress at Anfield on Sunday with regular goalkeeper Alisson out for a couple of weeks with a hamstring injury. 'My intention is to give the manager something to think about, give him a headache maybe.'

Caoimhin Kelleher went from hero to villain as the Republic of Ireland slipped to a 2-0 Nations League defeat in Greece. The Liverpool keeper, who had made three fine first-half saves before being beaten by Tasos Bakasetas' deflected 48th-minute shot, gifted the ball to substitute Petros Mantalos in stoppage time to allow him to seal the win. Victory maintained the Greeks' 100 per cent start to the competition and kept them three points ahead of England at the top of League B Group 2.

LEWIS STEELE: Liverpool will be without No 1 goalkeeper Alisson for around six weeks after scans proved the Brazilian suffered a hamstring injury at Crystal Palace. The 32-year-old went down in pain in the second half of the Reds' 1-0 win at Selhurst Park on Saturday and looked frustrated, immediately taking off his goalkeeper gloves and slamming them on the floor. He underwent scans this week and results have shown a hamstring injury, as feared, and the goalkeeper will be on the sidelines until after the next international break in mid-November.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has been linked with a shock move away from the club. The Brazilian shot-stopper is a firm favourite at Anfield and has enjoyed much success during his time at Liverpool. However, he is reportedly being monitored by a major European club ahead of a potential move. The club that are targeting Alisson are managed by a former Premier League star. Alisson, who has three years left on his contract at Liverpool, has played 269 times for the Reds.

Kelleher, a fully-fledged Republic of Ireland international but only a back-up at club level, openly admitted he has been keen to move on on several occasions. The 25-year-old has admirably played second fiddle to Alisson but will fall further down the pecking order when Giorgi Mamardashvili joins next season. As a result, his long-term future looks certain to be away from Anfield - despite the Reds rejecting several recent bids, including one from Nottingham Forest. Barnes believes Kelleher is talented enough to become first-choice but may have to do so elsewhere.

Liverpool rejected a late, lowball approach from Nottingham Forest for Kelleher both in January and the summer window. But Slot does not mind Kelleher's comments and says he would be concerned if he said he did not want to play every week when quizzed on this.

The Reds captain needed treatment in the first minutes of Liverpool's away game at Atalanta on Thursday and it can be revealed he suffered a dislocated finger and had to have it popped back into place. It is the second time the 32-year-old has had the injury, first happening playing for the Netherlands against Norway. 

Alisson returned to Liverpool's starting XI on Sunday after missing eight Premier League matches with a hamstring injury that threatened to derail his season - but the blessing in disguise was the form of No 2 keeper Caoimhin Kelleher. The Irishman was subject to strong interest from Nottingham Forest in the last days of the January transfer window but Liverpool turned down the relegation-threatened club's approaches. Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to re-explore signing Kelleher, though. Santo, a former goalkeeper himself, is a huge fan of Kelleher, though his stellar performances over the last two months have done Liverpool's bargaining position no harm this summer, with his price-tag only going in one direction.
