Cameron Erving Career

College career

In 2010, Erving made three games as a defensive tackle as a true freshman. He had just one tackle before a back injury forced him to have a medical redshirt. He was a backup defensive tackle and appeared in all 13 games as a redshirt freshman in 2011. He had 20 tackles and one sack on the season.

Erving was drafted as a sophomore in 2012 and moved to offensive tackle. He started all 14 games at left tackle, assuaging quarterback EJ Manuel's blind side.

Erving, a left tackle for quarterback Jameis Winston's blind side, made him the youngest player to win the Heisman Trophy as a junior. The Associated Press also named him as a second-team All-American.

He started his senior year in 2014 as the starting left tackle, but was forced to center after Austin Barron sustained an arm injury in his fifth game against Wake Forest University.

During his college career, Erving made 42 consecutive starts on the offensive line. He is a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity's Florida State Chapter.

Professional career

Erving was selected with the Cleveland Browns' 19th overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft on April 30, 2015. Erving has been on a four-year deal worth about $10 million, with a signing bonus of around $5 million. During preparation camp, he spent time at right guard and left tackle. He appeared in 16 games with 4 starts at left guard.

The coaching staff transitioned Erving from guard to center as his replacement in 2016, after long-serving center Alex Mack left the Browns via free agency. In the second game against the Baltimore Ravens, he sat out three games after suffering a bruised lung. He started 12 games at center, but he didn't seem as strong as his physical fitness and his shotgun snaps. He was sent to the right tackle position in the season finale in place of Austin Pasztor, but he sustained an MCL injury during the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In 2017, he was battling for the right tackle starting position with Shon Coleman. He had a rough start in training camp and sustained a calf injury.

Erving was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2018 fifth-round pick on August 30, 2017 (#159-Daurice Fountain). He played in 13 games, making four starts (three on right guard and one at left tackle).

The Chiefs declined Erving's deal in a fifth year on May 2, 2018. Erving signed a two-year deal extension with the Chiefs on September 4, 2018. Despite being deemed not to be a candidate, he did manage to secure the starting left guard position during training camp. He appeared in 13 games with 13 starts.

Eric Fisher played eight games at left tackle in 2019, while Eric Fisher recovered from a sports-hernia surgery. In Super Bowl LIV, Erving claimed his first championship after the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20.

Erving's contract was not considered by the Chiefs in 2020, making him a free agent.

Erving agreed to a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys on May 6, 2020, to compete for the swing tackle job. Due to an undisclosed injury, he did not complete the majority of training camp and did not return to action until August 27. He played for the starting right tackle position, but was left on the depth chart by rookie Terence Steele due to La'el Collins' season-ending hip injury. He strained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee during blocking for a field goal attempt in the season opener against the Los Angeles Rams. With a strained knee, he was put on injured reserve on September 15. On October 7, he was scheduled to return from hospitalized service and began training with the team for the second time. He was activated on October 24.

Brandon Knight, who suffered from a knee injury in his seventh game against the Washington Football Team, was named the starter at left tackle, replacing Brandon Knight, who had to be recalled. In his eleventh game against the Washington Football Team, he sustained a strained right knee injury and was recalled with Knight. He was on injured reserve on December 11, 2020, effectively ending his chances of returning to action for the remainder of the season. He appeared in six games with five starts at left tackle.

Erving signed a two-year deal with the Carolina Panthers on March 17, 2021. For 2021, he was named the Panthers starting left tackle. On November 8, 2021, he sustained a calf injury in Week 9 and was put on injured reserve. He was born on December 11 and was activated on December 11.
