Chelsea announced their eighth signing of the summer on Thursday when Aaron Anselmino joined a growing list. Anselmino, 19, signed from Boca Juniors in Argentina for a transfer fee in the region of £15million before immediately returning to his former club on loan. Chelsea tweeted via the club's official X account: 'Chelsea is pleased to announce the signing of defender Aaron Anselmino, who will spend the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Boca Juniors.'

Some big names have been left out of Chelsea's US pre-season tour, with uncertainty over the futures of six players in particular.  The club have named a 28-man squad that will fly out to the United States, with their first game against Wrexham in California on Wednesday.  Enzo Maresca's side will then go on to face Celtic, Club America, Premier League rivals Manchester City, before concluding the tour with a game against Real Madrid in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 7. 

Chelsea have signed yet another teenage talent as United States left-back Caleb Wiley arrives in west London on a six-year contract for a reported fee of £8.5million. The 19-year-old joins the Blues from Major League Soccer side Atlanta United, where he has been a part of the first-team squad since 2022. Wiley has made 83 appearances for the MLS outfit, scoring six goals. The teenager earned his senior debut for the US national team in a 1-1 draw against Mexico last March. Wiley is currently in Paris, where he is part of the US squad for the Olympic Games football tournament.

Chelsea have sprung for another young American star from Major League Soccer to stock its roster. The Blues have reached an agreement for 19-year-old US men's national team fullback Caleb Wiley on a deal worth just short of $11million (£8.5m). Wiley has signed on a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2031, according to multiple reports.

Thiago Almada, Argentina's teenage star, had a brilliant game for Atlanta United, scoring an emphatic free kick to help the Five Stripes beat the Portland Timbers 5-1. Caleb Wiley scored a goal and an assist, and Georgios Giakoumakis and Luiz Araujo scored for Atlanta (3-0-1, 10) off the best start in franchise history. The Timbers lost their third straight defeat, with Tega Ikoba scoring for the Timbers (1-3-0, 3 points). Portland was without eight players due to injuries.

With a 3-0 victory over Charlotte FC on Saturday afternoon, Atlanta United climbed to the top of the Eastern Conference. Atlanta continued its undefeated start to the season with three first-half goals from Caleb Wiley's brace and Luis Araujo's strike from the edge of the box. Wiley got off to a flying start by securing the ball within five minutes before Araujo doubled the lead just seven minutes later before the rising USA superstar scored his second with a tap in.
