MAN UTD CONFIDENTIAL: Erik ten Hag's dressing-room praise for players after Tottenham humbling, Brailsford and Co's post-match summit, Liverpool poised to hijack £70m move for centre back

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 1, 2024
CHRIS WHEELER AND NATHAN SALT: The inquests into Manchester United's latest setback under Erik ten Hag had already begun when the manager gathered his players together in the home dressing-room at Old Trafford on Sunday evening. Ten Hag could have been forgiven for tearing into his team after the defeat to Tottenham plunged him back into crisis and cast fresh doubt over his future at the club. However, Confidential understands that Ten Hag kept his cool despite admitting United's first-half performance had been awful after they came in at half-time one goal down and one man down following Bruno Fernandes' sending-off.

What Man United's legend squad who face Celtic are doing NOW... Wayne Rooney has managed four clubs, Wes Brown went bankrupt, while one Treble-winning star owns a restaurant

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 7, 2024
A team of Manchester United legends, managed by former captain Bryan Robson, will return to Old Trafford on Saturday. They will face a Celtic side managed by Paul Lambert, in a match that will raise money for the Manchester United foundation.  The team includes some members of United's Treble-winning side in 1999, as well as stars who enjoyed success under Sir Alex Ferguson in the 2000s and early 2010s.

Singing the national anthem before games always fired us up and felt patriotic... I don't understand Lee Carsley's decision, writes former England star

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 6, 2024
If you are English and proud of your country, you sing the national anthem whether you're in the zone or not. That's all I can say. It gets you fired up. For me, playing with Terry Butcher, Des Walker, Bryan Robson and all the boys, whenever we sang God Save the Queen, we wanted it even more. I don't understand where Lee Carsley is coming from, but you have to respect it. If that's what gets him going, I'm not saying it's a bad thing.

Bukayo Saka is England's LIONHEART: He's Stuart Pearce and Bryan Robson rolled into one, would walk into any team in Europe and rose above the abuse he faced after missing a penalty last time

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 8, 2024
SAMI MOKBEL IN ERFURT: Bukayo Saka retreated to his favourite spot in the burning sauna at England's base in Weimar to reflect on the events of the night before. Burning is the operative word here. Burning with excitement. Burning with passion. Burning with pride. England's new lionheart. Think Bryan Robson. Think Stuart Pearce. Saka appears in a different guise but is no less iconic. The embodiment of the sort of culture English football has traditionally dined on. Courage, bravery, tenacity.

This is Gareth Southgate's last roll of the dice. It is a big gamble but it could liberate England, writes OLIVER HOLT

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 5, 2024
OLIVER HOLT: There is a picture taken after England's first match of the 1990 World Cup that shows Bobby Robson, deep in thought, gazing out from a balcony at the team hotel in Sardinia after his side had stumbled to a 1-1 draw in their opening game against the Republic of Ireland. Robson and the players were deluged with criticism after the Ireland game. Some newspapers fell back on the familiar demand of that time that we should 'Bring them home' because they were so dismayed by the result. Robson decided to make changes. Some said there was a player revolt and that they demanded he switch the formation from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2. Robson said those claims belonged 'in the realms of fiction' but after consulting Gary Lineker, Bryan Robson and Terry Butcher, Robson acted.

England 0-0 Slovenia: Three Lions begin play for victory in final group game to avoid clash against old nemesis Germany in knockout stages - as fans pack out pubs and bars

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 25, 2024
England has kicked off its crucial Euros clash against Slovenia in hopes of a victory to avoid playing against Germany in the knockout stages. The team has already made it through to the last-16 stage of Euro 2024 with a game to spare but their result against Slovenia will inevitably decide their knockout round fate and how easy or difficult their run-in to the final could be. The Three Lions currently sit top of Group C on four points ahead of Denmark and Slovenia but that could all change following tonight's game. The players carried serious expressions ahead of the game as they warmed up on the pitch at Cologne Stadium.

England's history of Euros heartbreak: Three group-stage exits, two Wembley eliminations, fan trouble... and Roy Hodgson's infamous Parisian river cruise

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 16, 2024
Amid three group-stage exits, two heart-breaking Wembley eliminations, a Dutch demolition, no shortage of fan trouble and a Parisian river cruise, Three Lions fans have seen it all at the Euros… aside from that elusive victory, that is. Here, Mail Sport's men on the ground relive the good, the bad and the ugly from each of England's Euro expeditions…

Bryan Robson's run-in with a bed and Nani's acrobatic fail: As Czech star Michal Sadilek is ruled out of Euro 2024 with a FREAK injury, here are the other bizarre reasons why players missed international tournaments

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 11, 2024
From overhead kicks to a bike ride gone wrong, we've seen footballers sustain some rather bizarre injuries over the years that have ruled them out of action. Norway defender Svein Grondalen was once sidelined after he ran into a wild moose while out jogging, while Rangers and Scotland defender Kirk Broadfoot suffered burns after a poached egg exploded in his face. And with Euro 2024 right around the corner, players will be doing their best to avoid getting injured ahead of the tournament. But some have already had to pull out from the tournament, including Czech midfielder Michal Sadilek.

Man United legend Sir Alex Ferguson is left £3m fortune by his beloved wife Cathy in her will

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 11, 2024
A will penned by Lady Cathy Ferguson, who married the Manchester United legend in 1966 and tragically passed away last year, ordered her fortune to be kept in a trust for the benefit of her husband and their children. Probate papers revealed she had left a £3,181,310 estate by the time of her death. But her gross estate had been valued at £3,299,823. The couple, who have three sons, Mark, Darren, and Jason, met in 1964 while Sir Alex was playing with Dunfermline Athletic at the age of 23, and they married shortly before his move to Rangers. She had been at his side as he forged his career in football and enjoyed huge success with Aberdeen and Manchester United.

They said I was slow, a bruiser, a boozer and hated Sir Alex Ferguson. None of it's true… except I did like a drink, Man United's 1985 FA Cup hero Norman Whiteside tells CHRIS WHEELER

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 24, 2024
Whiteside sold his FA Cup medals and jersey four years ago to top up his pension. These days, he keeps himself busy with after-dinner speaking gigs and hospitality on match-days at Old Trafford. There's no shortage of punters wanting to hear his thoughts on the game. 'Afterwards I can get the Metro back home to Altrincham. Norman's on the tram. I have a happy medium; I get left alone and get my little clap at Old Trafford. But most people would be lying if they said they didn't want to be part of the Premier League money.' 'You've got to give it your best shot,' he says. 'I've had many nightmares at Old Trafford, even Wembley, but at least I came off the pitch and the crowd knew I'd given 100 per cent. I hate to see people not winning their battles. Diving does my head in, not tackling does my head in, not tracking back does my head in.

THE NOTEBOOK: Newcastle anger after Anthony Gordon is denied clear penalty in defeat to Man United... and why Old Trafford was eerily quiet in the build-up to kick-off

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 15, 2024
CRAIG HOPE AT OLD TRAFFORD: Manchester United returned to winning ways with a 3-2 victory over Newcastle on Wednesday night. There has not been too much to smile about for the home support this season, but United fans gave them a victory in the last match at Old Trafford this term.  The Red Devils finish off the league campaign with a trip to Brighton on Sunday, before playing rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final the following week.

Sir Alex Ferguson had no doubts when naming his 'worst Man United signing' - but what happened to the Red Devils' player who would sneak off to Ascot without the manager's permission?

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 8, 2024
Sir Alex Ferguson is regarded as perhaps the greatest manager to have ever graced the Premier League.  During the 26 seasons he presided over Manchester United, the Scottish football coach won a monumental, winning 38 trophies that included 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions League trophies.  Ferguson was an excellent man manager with the 82-year-old having coached among some of the best players to have played in the top-flight.

I was scammed into investing into a hotel that didn't exist - here's how you can avoid the same: How Man United legend Bryan Robson is advising the next generation, writes IAN HERBERT

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 9, 2024
IAN HERBERT: Because he doesn't shout about it, letting his feelings be known to millions all the time in the contemporary way, it's easy to forget what a giant presence Bryan Robson is at Manchester United. When Sir Bobby Charlton was struggling, Robson quietly took on some of his tasks as the face and figurehead of the club and though no-one is broadcasting the fact, he has filled the great man's giant boots as the club's elder statesman now. There's something very fitting about that, because for the players of real genius who've pulled on the jersey - Sir Bobby, Roy Keane , Paul Scholes - Robson was, and is, one of the first picks in an all-time best United XI. He's a link back to the past, at a time when the memory of Busby and the spirit of Wembley, 1968 dims in the collective memory. The look on Robson's face when I encountered him at Nobby Stiles' funeral, a few years back, told you what the members of that great team meant to him. He was devastated.

What happened to the ghost grounds: How football's once-great stadiums have been transformed… so can you match the present drone photos with their historic past?

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 28, 2024
IAN HERBERT: It's often that those who see our football from outside this country have the highest appreciation of the cathedrals, which have been largely ignored now. When Stuart Roy Clarke, a leading documentary photographer, wanted to produce 'The Homes of Football,' capturing our 1990s journey through the game as it came on the brink of modernization, the only publisher willing to commission it was German 'Spielmacher'. The finished product, which was released a few years ago, is stunning, but the text is in German, with an English translation tucked away at the back. Some of the best stadiums, packed with fans when Clarke depicted them, are as iconic as ever to those who remember them, as shown by Mail Sport journalist Ian Ladyman's visit to the old Maine Road center circle in south Manchester last year.

Part ONE of the Man United idol, the most prolific striker in English history, and the Brazilian who failed to make the majority of his talents

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 25, 2024
OLIVER HOLT: Any list - your list as well as mine - can be dominated by those who are not on it. However, it should really be about the participants who are on it. This list is meant to be a salute to them and of football's rich, rich past, as well as what the game means to all of us and what players represent and why they capture something in us. You'll disagree with some of the names on the list, and you'll be correct. Another man's garbage is another man's treasure. The depth of our passion for the game and the ferocity of our opinions about the players are only two of the factors that make football so beautiful.

At Euro 2024, Kobbie Mainoo might be England's hero. We can all agree that international rookies can make all the difference... Geoff Hurst's first competitive cap came at the 1966 World Cup

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 21, 2024
CRAIG HOPE: Kobbie Mainoo was not even in the England squad 48 hours ago. Bryan Robson, the former England captain, was discussing the 18-year-old's as a Euro 2024 starter. Fanciful? History has taught us that we did not exist. On March 21, 1966, how many caps did Geoff Hurst have? One. Four months later, his first competitive appearance was against Argentina in a World Cup quarter-final. In a World Cup final a week later, he was scoring a hat-trick. Martin Peters scored in the 4-2 victory over West Germany. How many caps did he have exactly 58 years ago on the eve of the tournament? Zero. The fact that the West Ham midfielder wore No.16 shirt during the finals, in the days of 1-11 being the best picks, shows that he was not meant to appear.

CHRIS WHEELER recalls Manchester United's past glory after their 3-2 victory over Liverpool... but does he agree with his picks?

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 18, 2024
CHRIS WHEELER: Old Trafford has seen some classic games in recent times, and Manchester United's dramatic FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool on Sunday was up there with the best of them. United's cameback to defeat their bitter rivals 4-3, with a 121st-minute goal from Amad Diallo, who was running late in normal time and again in extra-time. I was screaming and I couldn't hear my voice, so you get a sense of what the noise was like for us on the pitch,' said captain Bruno Fernandes afterwards.'

On a £50,000 Cheltenham payday, Gutted Harry Redknapp loses out

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 16, 2024
As Stellar Story rode to triumph, the Jukebox Man was defeated right away in the final stretch of Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle. After the election, the former West Ham and Tottenham manager, 77, became a visibly dissatisfied figure. If The Jukebox Man finished first, he would have won £75,965, essentially losing more than £50k because second place was only awarded £28,620. Stellar Story, who had been at 119-1, ended up winning the race in a dramatic manner with a late surge.

CHELTENHAM's BREAKFAST: Sir Alex Ferguson wasn't always a racing fan (just ask Bryan Robson), but it's no wonder the town center is so tidified when people are priced out... Paddy Power's CHEAT SHEET for Day Four: Sir Alex Ferguson wasn't a racing fan, anyway

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 15, 2024
The Cheltenham Breakfast delves into the Festival's key topics, and there is a lot to discuss on the final day. Today, the king of DOMINIC discovers how age has softened Sir Alex Ferguson's intelligence, explores Sir Anthony McCoy's finest hour, and takes a look at the thorny subject of profiteering in the city.

Cheltenham is now run by Sir Alex Ferguson and Harry Redknapp, as the legendary racers oversee three out of seven races and made the Festival look more like Wembley!

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 15, 2024
On Thursday, Cheltenham felt more like Wembley as two legendary managers, Sir Alex Ferguson and Harry Redknapp, won their first races at the Cheltenham Festival. Ferguson did the double, winning the Perpetual Hurdle with 25-1 shot by Harry Cobden, and Ryanair Chase with 17-2 hope, guided home by Harry Skelton, with Sam Allardyce and Bryan Robson following them. Redknapp's name was chanted from the terraces around the winner's enclosure as the British came back, defeating the Irish five wins to two two yesterday.

Be careful, Fergie!Sir Alex Ferguson, 82, jumps and roars with delight as his horses win back-to-back Cheltenham races - months after he broke a rib celebrating another win in Bahrain

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 14, 2024
He watched as Pertemps Handicap Hurdle dominated in 'Fergie time' before Protextektorat defeated Ryanair Chase at odds of 17-2. Fergie's former United captain Bryan Robson stood behind him and Sam Allardyce flanked him, causing jubilation. Victory in the Ryanair Chase paid him £218,398, with a purse of £56,270 for the Perpetual Handicap Hurdle. His double fought out at 246/1.

Sir Alex Ferguson, Sam Allardyce, and Harry Redknapp are among those on hand at Cheltenham with Jamie Carragher and Bryan Robson, as the former Man United boss could win more than £350,000 if his three horses win at the Festival on Thursday

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 14, 2024
On Day Three of the festival, Sir Alex Ferguson and Bryan Robson, as well as Jamie Carragher, Sam Allardyce, and Harry Redknapp, joined the audience at Cheltenham. This week, Manchester United's former Manchester United has six horses running at Prestbury Park, four of whom are on Thursday. In the 2.10pm Pertemps Handicap Hurdle, Monmiral is competing, while Proektorat and Hitman will be in the Ryanair Chase at 2:50 p.m.

Joe Marler's favorite shirt until I die, but Man United's legendary away kit in the early 90s was a must have retro... I just adore it!

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 23, 2024
JOE MARLER: I'm a Seagull fan until I die, but the Manchester United 1990-92 away shirt is my favorite. It's proper retro, I just love it! It's most likely because it's Brighton colours. However, I loved the Steve Bruce, Gary Pallister, and Bryan Robson era before the youth took over and rule the world.

West Brom is hosting their nemesis in the FA Cup, with a takeover that may have even endangered their lives... all that's left is to knock out Wolves!

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 27, 2024
West Bromwich Albion is also haunted by a feeling of anxiety as they look forward to resurrecting one of England's most formidable rivalries against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. For the first three years, Albion's supporters have been worried about the city's very existence. However, although this 146-year-old team is still in danger, there is growing hope that Albion will be sold in the coming weeks to bring an end to one of the most troubling chapters in modern history. Shilen Patel, a US businessman, is expected to be the front-runner to take over. However, there is still some mystery and worry before the agreement is concluded.
