Queen Elizabeth's jewellery collection was so vast that it had to be stored in a room the size of an ice rink, located 40 feet beneath Buckingham Palace. Tiaras were the highlight of her collection, varying from diamond-encrusted bands to headpieces decorated with precious stones. They would be presented to her on a tray with a lace cover, hand-sewn by her grandmother Queen Mary and bearing her 'M' monogram. The tiara was always the final piece of jewellery she selected. The late Queen mastered the art of securing these tiaras to her springy curls using a satin band or hairclip. And she generously loaned several designs to members of her family, including Princess Diana , Princess Anne, Princess Margaret and Kate Middleton. Since Elizabeth's death in 2022, Kate and Queen Camilla have continued to dip into her tiara collection.

Nearly 30 years after her untimely death, Princess Diana is still one of the best-known women in the world. The 'People's Princess' was renowned for the compassion she displayed when meeting with the vulnerable, including sufferers of HIV and leprosy. But Diana also captivated audiences with her enduring style. The Princess displayed a fondness for a select group of British designers who played a key role in cementing her fashion legacy. She might have hoped her birthday tomorrow would involve nothing more taxing than putting her feet up with her husband. Instead, Queen Camilla will celebrate turning 77 by popping on her Bruce Oldfield gown and the family's iconic Diamond Diadem to accompany King Charles to the State Opening of Parliament. 'It's not the tip-top way she would choose to be spending her birthday,' one close friend tells me, 'but you won't ever hear a single word of complaint. About anything, really. For someone who wasn't born into the Royal Family, she's got an extraordinarily strong sense of duty and the temperament to cope.'
Style Queen Camilla! How Her Majesty's Bruce Oldfield gown at the Coronation marked the start of a fashion transformation - as favoured designer Fiona Clare says she wants her outfits to 'photograph to flatter'

Camilla's fashion evolution began long before she became Queen, but the Coronation was undoubtedly a pivotal moment. Her choice of a regal white Bruce Oldfield gown (left) adorned with delicate embroidery set the tone for her new role. It was a statement of grace and majesty, reflecting her understanding of the significance of the occasion. For a woman who was once criticised for her conservative and sometimes frumpy choices, the Queen - who turns 77 on Wednesday - has had quite the turnaround in fashion terms. She now embodies elegance, confidence and a keen sense of what works for her.

When humble Rania married speed freak Abdullah: Jordan's King and Queen tied the knot on this day in 1993 - 30 years before their daughter borrowed from THAT dress

She paid homage to her humble beginnings by forgoing a tiara on her wedding day. Nevertheless, Rania Al-Yassin - now Queen of Jordan - charmed guests with her captivating presence when she married Prince Abdullah 31 years ago today. The couple first met at a dinner party in 1992 and were engaged six months later, exchanging vows on June 10, 1993, in a grand ceremony at the Zahran Palace in Amman, Jordan. Despite tradition dictating that royal brides wear family jewels, Rania, born into a humble Palestinian family in Kuwait, made a statement by wearing a simple embellished headband attached to her veil, symbolising her roots. Speed freak Abdullah, who is known for his love of motorbikes, wore military uniform and a ceremonial sword at his hip. Rania chose British designer Bruce Oldfield to craft her custom-made dress, which featured gold floral embroidery, a voluminous ivory satin skirt and matching jacket. The latter was designed with distinctive lapels, short sleeves and a detachable belt - an element that her daughter, Princess Iman (inset), borrowed for her own pre-wedding henna ceremony in 2023.

He had withdrawn from fashion and closed his eponymous shop in Knightsbridge, south-west London, when the auction took place at Julien's Auctions in Los Angeles.
As experts brand McDonald's 'public interest' claims as virtue-signalling 'twaddle,' the staff revolted over new awakened beanie and bucket hat uniforms

The designs have been criticized online as 'too casual' and'reminiscent of a 90s skater dude,' as well as threats that people will'rather quit' than wear them. The company has revealed a joint trial that would include not only beanies and bucket hats but also jeans, jeans, chinos, denim skirts, and joggers. Months of planning had resulted in this moment. Months of cajoling designers, models, resp., and style watchers, have all lent their help - and money - to a hitherto unintentional venture: a show that exhibits the best of British fashion under one roof. Or, rather, one square of canvas. I felt a surge of pride and pure excitement as I watched the last touches being applied to the huge tent that would host the first ever London Fashion Week. I knew some of these people had been skeptical, but as I stood at the back of this amazing new space, I hoped that this would be the start of something amazing.

The Prince and Princess of Wales' Christmas card for 2023 is many things: understated, casual, and packed with a modern, sleek look. However, William and Kate's card is also reminiscent of cards from years past, particularly those designed by William's mother, Diana. QUENTIN LETTS: All the King's horses and all of the King's spin-doctors have been able to be tracked. The King bestowed royal blessings on his first parliament by a combination of ceremonial bling and modern political jargon. The last King's Address was more than 70 years ago. He was'mindful of the contribution and sacrifice made to this country by my beloved mother, the late Queen.' When announcing a government's legislative proposals, her late Majesty's razor-posh accent never exuded cool dispassion. Charles's voice? Less austere but not so deadpan.
