One night 37 years ago, hurricane-force winds ravaged Britain. But some of us appear to have thought something worse was hitting the country. Forecasters had failed to predict the severity of the worst storm for almost 300 years, which killed 18 people. Now recent reports have revealed that many feared nuclear war had broken out when the gusts began in October 1987. A number of respondents to the Mass Observation Project (MOP) at the time feared the Russians were attacking, a study by Exeter University found.

Meghan Markle distributed strawberry jam to her friends as a way of highlighting her new business venture by giving them a 'personal present' that she likely produced herself with ingredients sourced from Montecito, a branding expert revealed today. The Duchess of Sussex sent friends a limited-edition jar ahead of the formal launch of her brand American Riviera Orchard (ARO) later this spring with a range of items. Fashion designer Tracy Robbins and Argentine socialite Delfina Balquier posted on Instagram that they each received one of the jars, which PR expert Nick Ede said looked 'very home made with a stylish crest and almost handwritten brand name'. Mrs Robbins and her husband Paramount boss Brian Robbins are friends with the Sussexes and invited them to the Bob Marley film premiere in Jamaica in January. The couple are also friends with Ms Balquier, who is married to Prince Harry 's friend Nacho Figueras - with the four together at a charity polo match in Florida last Friday. Mr Ede said the jam 'will have most likely have been sourced in Montecito and produced by hand by Meghan herself to make them feel special and thought of.' He claimed her strategy was 'highlighting the brand rather than Meghan' as she tries to get people to 'buy into the ARO lifestyle not just her own personal brand'.

Of all the many startling features of the Sussex relaunch this week, from Meghan's coat of arms to its timing as the King fights cancer - perhaps the most surprising has yet to be commented on. It's this: at no point on their latest website, Sussex.com, is there even a single mention of the word 'Netflix.' This includes the section devoted to Archewell Productions, where you will find the following excerpts: "Our company, founded in 2020 by Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and others, is committed to illuminating thought-provoking and rich narratives that highlight our common humanity and honor community, including scripted and non-scripted television, film, documentaries, and podcasting.'

RICHARD EDEN: When the Duchess of Sussex was interviewed on the red carpet of a showbusiness function in Los Angeles last November, she said she and Prince Harry had "too many exciting things on the agenda" to announce. 'Things that make people feel - I was going say 'good', but it's more than that - things that make people feel something, right?' Meghan gushed. Sadly, the most effective emotion for one key member of their team was a desire to leave, as I recall.
Eyeing up a new streaming deal? Despite network's Comedy Central airing THAT South Park episode as Harry and Meghan are photographed together with Paramount TV boss Ken Johnson in Jamaica, PR experts predict that the pair will be looking for their 'next ratings champion.'

A branding specialist said today that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's relationship with Paramount chief Brian Robbins would benefit them as they investigate a new TV streaming contract. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were invited to Jamaica for the first time by Mr Robbins' family - with whom they are "personal acquaintances." The father-of-three is a well-known Hollywood celebrity who is the CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, and he and his stylist wife Tracy James live in Los Angeles. Given that Harry and Meghan are likely to be searching for new ways of earning, with their £80 million Netflix deal coming to an end early last June and their £15 million Spotify deal ending early last month, the Sussexes' relationship with the Robbins family is particularly notable. It's also curious that Paramount owns Comedy Central, which airs in South Park. Last February, a show called 'The Worldwide Privacy Tour' mockingly portrayed Harry and Meghan on a publicity bust to promote Harry's book, 'Waaagh'. According to Nick Ede, a branding and culture specialist, it was time for Harry and Meghan to shop around and see where they could land their next ratings winner.'
