Matthew Jordan had played these links hundreds of times before but never like this. Walked to the first tee more often than he remembered, but never like this. Never to this degree, never to this degree, and never to get the Open Championship underway. The 27-year-old made the first tee shot in front of a grandstand packed with family, acquaintances, and friends of a course where he has been a student since he was seven and holds the course record (62). He shot a two-under-par 69 to earn a spot on the leaderboard in four and a half hours over the next four and a half hours.

RIATH AL-SAMARRAI: With ominous timing, two of LIV's rebel alliance's marquee names have resurfaced to peak form this week in the US's second major tournament of the season. If the challenges of Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, and Patrick Reed sparked some unease among the traditionalists at The Masters last month, there will be similar trepidations over Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith's appearance at Tulsa over the weekend. Johnson's second LIV title, as well as Branden Grace, suggests that they have gained energy at the right time.

Brooks Koepka won the tournament for the second time the week before a major, and the LIV went on to finish second at the Masters.
