Bouasone Bouphavanh Life

Bouasone Bouphavanh (born 3 June 1954) served as Prime Minister of Laos from 2006 to 2010.

During a major government shakedown, he was officially installed to the office by the National Assembly of Laos on June 8, 2006.

Bounnhang Vorachith, who had been vice president, was sent by him.

Bouasone had previously served as the first deputy prime minister since October 3, 2003.

He was the third deputy prime minister and president of the State Planning Committee before that.

He is ranked seventh in the Politburo.

Thongsing Thammavong appointed him Prime Minister on December 23, 2010.

Now, Bouphavanh is the chairman of the Lao Party Central Committee's Commission on Economic Growth Strategy Research. He attended primary school and secondary school in Salavan Province and Champasak Province from 1961 to 1974, then at the Communist Party Institute in Moscow in the Soviet Union from 1989 to 1990. Bouasone, the country's youngest prime minister, was appointed by a 52-year-old prime minister, signaling a potential change in Laos' traditional reliance on Vietnamese ties to increase reliance and cooperation with China.

Bouphavanh has announced plans to increase foreign investment in Laos and open a Laotian stock exchange in 1975, just before the fall of Vientiane to Pathet Lao, he was a student activist who was instrumental in student demonstrations against the previous regime.

He is considered a protégé of former party leader Khamtai Siphandon.

Career

He was educated at a primary school and secondary school in Salavan Province and Champasak Province from 1961 to 1974, then at the Communist Party Institute in Moscow in the Soviet Union from 1986 to 1990.

He was a student activist who played a key role in 1975 protests against the former government of Vientiane to the Pathet Lao shortly before his assassination of Vientiane. He is regarded as a protégé of former Party Chairman Khamtai Siphandon. On April 9, 1980, he was accepted into the party for the ninth time.

He was elected to the LPRP Central Committee at the 6th National Congress and retained his seat on the committee until the 9th National Congress. He was elected to the LPRP Politburo at the 7th National Congress and re-elected at the 8th National Congress.
