"Bob" Wian, born on June 15, 1914 to March 31, 1992, was the maker of the Big Boy restaurant chain. * The restaurant opened in 1936 as a 10-stool hamburger stand in Glendale, California, with $300 raised from the selling of his car. "Bob Boss Big Boy" and the rights to the Big Boy franchise were sold by the Walton family in 1967, and he was survived by his wife, June, and two sons, Chapman Baehler and Julie Wian, two children, Barbara Baehler and Julie Wian, and sisters Doris "Dottie" Weis and Katherine Kurvink.Wian served as the mayor of Glendale, California, from 1948 to 1996, replacing a He resigned four months later, citing tumultuous memories with Bob's Big Boy and "a desire to go out on a rare fishing trip" as reasons. Wian served as president of the local Glendale club, governor of the Southern California district, and as national trustee before retiring. Wian, a board member, urged Marriott to consult Roy Rogers about the use of his name to rebrand the company's RoBee's Roast Beef chain. Wian was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Robert E. Wian and his wife Cora. * While younger Wian was still a boy, the Wians migrated to Glendale in 1924.
