Bob Evans Career

Early life and career

Evans was born in Sugar Ridge, Ohio, where his father and uncle farmed on rented property.

In 1929, the family moved to Gallia County, Ohio, to be near relatives. The family lived in Gallipolis, Ohio, where his father owned and operated a grocery store. Evans attended public schools in Gallipolis and graduated with honors from the Greenbrier Military School, a private military boarding high school in Lewisburg, West Virginia, in 1937. He attended the Ohio State University of Veterinary Medicine from 1937 to 1939.

In June 1940, Evans married Jewell Victoria Waters (November 4, 1919-July 24, 2019). They moved to Gallipolis, where he bought the Malt Shop in the early 1940s. Evans sold his restaurant to a friend when he was first drafted into the Army in 1943.

When Evans started making sausage on his southeastern Ohio farm and sold it at a 12-stool diner he owned in nearby Gallipolis in 1948, Bob Evans Farms got off the ground. Evans couldn't find a good sausage, so he started making his own, slaughtering his own hogs, and using the best parts of the hog. The sausage factory was built with open ends at his father's suggestion, so if the sausage company faltered, it could be used as a machinery shed. A group of friends and family noticed the increasing demand for Evans' sausage and became his business partners by founding Bob Evans Farms in 1953. The original Bob Evans Restaurant on the farm was called The Sausage Shop. Although the restaurant started with 12 stools, today it seats 134 people.

As they cast doubt on the wild theory used to convict him of shooting dead students in a parking lot 37 years ago, aviation experts are calling for clemency for Michigan's 'ninja killer.'

Three aviation experts have written to Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer in support of Temujin Kensu, 57 (left), who was charged with murdering Scott Macklem in 1987. Macklem was shot and killed in a parking lot (inset), but no physical evidence was found linking him to the crime scene, but no physical evidence was found connecting him to the crime scene. Rather, they relied on no wild theory that he chartered a plane to carry out the attack, leaving no trace, there was no trace. Nevertheless, many key elements of this tale have been questioned by those in the aviation industry at the time of the assassination.

For Thanksgiving, these 21 restaurants are serving turkey take-out

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 17, 2023
Thanksgiving Day is just around the corner, and national restaurant chains will be serving people with fully cooked Thanksgiving meals for takeout or delivery. According to Lending Tree, 40% of people say they will take time off work to shop, cook, or prepare the meal. This year, Americans who want to spend those nine hours with their family rather than in a kitchen will order food from Denny's, Whole Foods, and Boston Market. Special Thanksgiving delivery meals are also available at Omaha Steaks and Harry & David.

Where to get free meals for veterans on Memorial Day 2023

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 29, 2023
Most people will think of the abundance of outdoor barbecues, poolside cocktails, and parades that the holiday traditionally evokes when you hear the word 'Memorial Day.' That said, the celebration, which for some means a day off work, is often somber, since it is held to honor those who have lost their lives fighting for our county. In that spirit, although some restaurants use the holiday as an excuse to close their doors, many restaurants are now offering veteran discounts on certain items, as well as some meals entirely free. With this in mind, here are a few well-known chains where former servicemen and women can snag a complimentary bite on Memorial Day. This year, the holiday is May 29 - the month's final Monday.
