Film watchdog changes rating of 1970s mockumentary Abba: The Movie over references to band member Agnetha Faltskog's backside

October 13, 2024
Film classifiers are taking no chances on Abba: The Movie nowadays over references to Agnetha Faltskog's (pictured) backside. The singer was described as having the 'sexiest bottom in pop' when the film was made in 1977. But the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has now changed the film's rating from a U to a PG because of its 'mild sex references' and 'language.' It has also produced new parental guidance for the film - 47 years after its release.
Sven-Goran Eriksson reveals details on the meeting that cost him his job with England - as he takes aim at an ex-Man United coach in an exclusive extract from his memoir

SVEN-GORAN ERIKSSON: The beginning of the end for me as England team manager was when my agent, Athole Still, and his attorney, Richard Des Voeux, received an inquiry. The idea was for the three of us to fly to Dubai to meet with a sheik who was presented as vice-chairman of the National Football Federation there. It was a matter of developing football in the United Arab Emirates, and some kind of football school. That's how it was first presented.
Truth about being the third wife: You don't just marry your husband, you take on his exes, kids and decades of memories. And then there's always a nagging worry...

The location for my Anglo-French wedding was picture-postcard perfect. A quaint mairie (town hall) sat snugly in the centre of a traditional village, all pastel wooden shutters and honey-coloured stone buildings festooned with climbing roses and geraniums spilling out of window boxes. It was the kind of scene I'd dreamed of as a little girl, the very essence of a fairy-tale romance. Yet there was one aspect of my wedding that I had not fantasised about when I played dress-up with my dolls. The man who was pledging to devote his life to me, and to whom I was pledging mine in return, had already done it twice before. Much has been made of the Second Wives' Club. The Third Wives' Club, which I joined that spring day in 2008, is even more exclusive. Its members include Carrie Johnson and Melania Trump, and now Christina Sas, who married Abba's Bjorn Ulvaeus in Copenhagen at the weekend.

Abba's Bjorn Ulvaeus has revealed he thinks it is a 'stupid' name and said he and his bandmates - Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad - really wanted to call themselves 'the Northern Lights'. Ulvaeus said the Swedish supergroup, who went on to sell more than 385 million records after winning the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, didn't come up with the name but had it imposed on them. The 79-year-old said he didn't like it at the time and his opinion of it hasn't changed. Ulvaeus added: 'We didn't have a choice in the matter. I thought it was such a stupid name. And it is.'

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 53, was in a relationship with fellow journalist Dominic, 57, between the years of 1998 to 2014, but the pair never married. Can it really be fifty years ago? Please don't tell me a whole half-century has passed since Abba first appeared on stage in Brighton, winning the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest with a song titled Waterloo, then on to conquer the world for the next five decades - and counting. And how to do it. They have sold more than 150 million copies, starting with a string of flawless pop hits that began in the Seventies and have produced international stars of Sweden's Gotham. They were together for only nine years, but their demise as a group was just the start of an incredible period of popular culture that continues to this day.

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Charles's fondness for Beatrice led him to amend the Counsellors of State Act
www.dailymail.co.uk,
December 16, 2022
EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: King Charles' dismissal of the Counsellors of State Act - excluding Anne and Edward, who retained Harry and Edward with the promise that only 'working royals' will be used - can be traced to his fondness for Princess Beatrice. She is a counsellor and has enthralled Charles by combining 'normal' life with understated royal service, which he sees as a model for the future. Sacrificing Harry and Andrew would have meant doing the same to Beatrice. The King didn't want her to be tarred with the same wood as her banished father.
