Betty Astell (23 May 1912 – July 25, 2005) was an English actress. She married Barry Julia Hymans at 54 Cranhurst Road in Willesden, Middlesex, and worked with entertainer Cyril Fletcher from 18 May 1941 to his death on January 1, 2005.
Astell's daughter, actress/comedian Jill Fletcher, appeared alongside her husband in his television series The Cyril Fletcher Show, and she was one of the first people to view John Logie Baird's experimental television, nearly seven months after her husband's death.

From 18 May 1941 to his death on January 1, 2005, Astell was married to entertainer Cyril Fletcher for more than 60 years. They had a daughter, actress/comedian Jill Fletcher, who was born in 1945. Astell died in a hospital near her home in Guernsey, aged 93 years, just over seven months after her husband's death.
Career
Astell was a child performer who was trained as a dancer. She appeared on BBC Radio programmes in the 1920s and met her husband while making recordings for radio in Bristol during World War II. They appeared as a married couple in a radio comedy starring Bob Monkhouse and Denis Goodwin in 1956 and 1957.
Astell appeared and danced in John Logie Baird's experimental television series, making her one of the first people to perform on television in 1931 and 1932, making her one of the first people to perform on television. She appeared in Dick Whittington, the first televised pantomime, that same year. She appeared on an early sketch show for television, Kaleidoscope (1949), and on ITV's eponymous television show, The Cyril Fletcher Show, beginning in 1959.
In John Galsworthy's Escape (1928), Astell made her London debut. She appeared in revues throughout the 1940s, including Magic Carpet (1943) and Keep Going (1944).
In 1932, Astell appeared in A Tight Corner with Frank Pettingell, who first appeared in film. She remained active in film into the 1930s, appearing in two dozen films. The Fletchers were familiar enough to a large audience in 1942 to produce a wartime newsreel clip together, thanking farmers. When she returned to the screen in A Piece of Cake co-starring her husband, she played her last film role.
