The owner of a garden center chain chain who had £2,000 worth of merchandise stolen in a month by a 'organised crime' group of shoplifters said the police didn't even assign an officer to investigate. On one occasion, Ben Tate, the company's director, of Tates of Sussex, said robbers took a weedkiller worth £450 from Mayberry Garden Centre in Portslade. On February 24, the same group of criminals was caught on CCTV robbery of more than £1,800 worth of irrigation products from Old Barn Garden Centre in Horsham. Mr Tate's family-owned business has now had to spend tens of thousands of pounds on a security team to combat the rise in robbery. Despite turning over CCTV video and vehicle registration plates to Sussex Police, the force had not even assigned an officer to investigate,'s'most troubling' situation, according to him.
