Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell could reportedly be set for a shock move to a major European club in the January transfer window. The 27-year-old has been frozen out at Chelsea this season by new manager Enzo Maresca, only making one Carabao Cup appearance while being left out of each of the side's Premier League matchday squads. He was placed in the club's 'bomb squad' over the summer after being deemed surplus to requirements, but failed to get a move away from west London.

George Baldock's body is expected to be flown back to the UK this weekend following the former Premier League's star's shock death on Wednesday. The former Sheffield United defender, 31, was found dead in the communal pool of his villa in Greece after drowning - shortly before he was due to fly back to England for his son's first birthday. Baldock made over 400 appearances in English football and spent seven seasons with Sheffield United until this summer, winning two promotions with the Blades.

Players from both teams observed a minute's silence before the game after the former Sheffield United defender was found dead in the communal pool of his villa in Greece. Baldock was born in Buckinghamshire and played more than 400 times in English football but earned 12 caps for Greece after qualifying through his grandmother.

Chelsea and England defender Ben Chilwell has paid tribute to his former team-mate George Baldock, who tragically died at the age of 31, while his family say they are 'in shock'. The former Premier League defender, who was playing for Greek club Panathinaikos in Athens, was discovered after his wife back home in England had been unable to get hold of him for several hours, local newspapers report. The owner of his luxury property was reportedly contacted and apparently found him in the pool. The emergency services were called and arrived in nine minutes, but he could not be revived.

England interim boss Lee Carsley suggested Chelsea superstar Cole Palmer could feature at left-back in the Three Lions' upcoming Nations League fixtures. Carsley named his 25-man squad on Thursday, with no recognised left-back included. Luke Shaw featured for England at Euro 2024 but got injured after the tournament during Manchester United's pre-season while Chelsea's Ben Chilwell is struggling for regular game time.

One of the options on the table is allowing him to rejoin the first team until January when they could look for a potential buyer all over again. Maresca had previously said that those training separately would not be used under him, with Chilwell (left) excluded from the Conference League squad submitted by Chelsea to UEFA last week.

KIERAN GILL: Ben Chilwell represented his country as recently as March and yet even amid such a shortage, the 27-year-old has never been further from the Three Lions line-up. That is because Chilwell has not been training with Chelsea 's first team, let alone playing in the Premier League as a 27-year-old Englishman who should be entering the prime of his career.

Speaking to media in Geneva ahead of facing Servette in the Conference League on Thursday, Chelsea's head coach said on Sterling: 'My advice. He knows exactly what he has to do. He doesn't need my advice. We're going to see.
