Bartolomeo Ammannati Life

Bartolomeo Ammannati (18 June 1511-June 1592) was an Italian architect and sculptor who was born in Settignano, near Florence. * He worked under Baccio Bandinelli and Jacopo Sansovino (assisting with the building of the Library of St. Mark's, the Biblioteca Marciana, Venice, Venice) and closely imitated Michelangelo's style. * He worked in Rome as part of Vignola and Vasari, including designs for the Villa Giulia, but also for works and Lucca. He labored from 1558 to 1570, during Pitti Palace's renovation and expansion, including three wings with rusticated facades, as well as one lower portico leading to the amphitheatre in the Boboli Gardens. * His style resembled Pitti's main external façade. * He was also appointed Consul of Accademia delle Arti del Disegno of Florence, which had been established by Duke Cosimo I in 1563. Ammanati was hired in 1569 to build the Ponte Santa Trinita, a bridge across the Arno River. The three arches are elliptic, and although they are very light and elegant, they have survived when floodwaters destroyed other Arno bridges at different times. * Santa Trinita was devastated in 1944 during World War II and rebuilt in 1957. In the Fountain of Neptune (Fontana del Nettuno), Ammannati's most prominently located in Florence's center, Ammannati created what is described as a prototypic mannerist sculpture ensemble. * The assignment was initially given to aged Bartolommeo Bandinelli, but Ammanelli's idea, notably the Benvenuto Cellini and Vincenzo Danti's, gained the commission. * Ammannati and his assistants, among them Giambologna, sculpted the block of marble that had been selected by Bandinelli between 1563 and 1565. * Grand Duke Cosimo I was used as a model for Neptune's face. * Cosimo's intention of establishing a Florentine Naval force was intended to highlight the statue's objective. * The ungainly sea god was placed at the corner of Michelangelo's David statue, and the then 87-year-old sculptor is said to have scoffed at Ammannati, ruining a stunning piece of marble, adding the ditty: "Ammannati, Ammanato hai rovinato" — "Ammannati, Ammanato hai rovinato." Ammannati continued work on this fountain for a decade, adding to the collection of demigod statues, joking satyrs, and marble sea horses emerging from the water around the border. Laura Battiferri, an elegant poet and an accomplished woman, was married in 1550 in Ammannati. * Later in his life, he suffered a spiritual crisis, inspired by Counter-Reformation piety, which resulted in the condemnation of his own works depicting nudity, and he left all his possessions to the Jesuits. In 1592, he died in Florence, Italy.

When clambering up the 500-year-old Fountain of Neptune in Florence to snap a photograph, the tourist knocks a piece off the marble sea god's chariot and cracks a horse's hoof

Since being charged with scaling the 16th century monument, the 22-year-old German, who has not been revealed publicly, could face a substantial fine. The man is seen quickly walking across the fountain, which sits in the center of the city's Piazza della Signoria, before clambering onto the statue to pose for the shot and then heading away, according to flickering CCTV in a strange purple hue due to the artificial light. Dario Nardella, the mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella, released a clip with a snapshot of the man standing by the statue with his face pixelated. 'This tourist thought it would be best to scale Nettuno for a selfie,' he wrote. Fortunately, there was no harm, and the alarm system worked. He was identified and will pay a large fine thanks to the Municipality's cameras, and will pay a fine. There are no arguments against the vandalism of cultural heritage.'
