EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Peer Randle Siddeley vows revenge for 'holiday from hell' to Sharm El Sheikh
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 10, 2024
EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: As one of the country's most celebrated landscape gardeners, Randle Siddeley is used to delivering perfection. But when it comes to booking holidays, he's been left infuriated that others don't share his attention to detail. Siddeley, the 4th Lord Kenilworth, bought a £2,300 all-inclusive holiday for his wife, Kayo Takauchi, and her daughter Jasmine, 32, through Lastminute.com. It turned out to be the stuff of nightmares. The package was advertised as a four-night stay in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt , but the flights were to Hurghada, on the opposite shore of the Gulf of Suez. Reaching their hotel would involve a ten-hour, 500-mile drive. When Lady Kenilworth and Jasmine realised, it was too late. 'Panic set in,' Lord Kenilworth tells me. 'They got dumped at the airport, 11 o'clock at night, two women in a foreign country where they don't speak the language.'

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: King Charles will now be bracing for the fallout from the Dutch version of Omid Scobie's tome

September 5, 2024
EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: King Charles - packing his travelling yeoman for next month's Commonwealth Summit in Samoa for his first face to face meeting with leaders since the publication of Harry's Spare - will also be bracing himself for the fallout from another book, the Dutch version of Sussex mouthpiece Omid Scobie's tome. Anything that destabilises the Royal Family is seized on by those who want to break the bloc's link with the King. Scobie's tittle-tattle named, without any cited evidence, the King and Kate as the offenders accused of racism by Meghan in her 2021 Oprah interview. He blamed a translating 'error'. But Scooby Doo's claim will still cause HM much unneeded stress.
How Prince Andrew's wedding 38 years ago could have been MUCH less glamorous: Sarah Ferguson wanted teddy bear and helicopter symbols on her dress, but designer Lindka Cierach had a veto, writes ANDREW LOWNIE

July 23, 2024
Sarah had, as tradition dictated, stayed at Clarence House the night before. She now travelled in the Glass Coach with her father, Major Ronald Ferguson, flanked by eight Lifeguard troopers of the Sovereign's Escort which he had once commanded. The young bride entered Westminster Abbey to Elgar's Imperial March with four-year-old Prince William (inset) as one of her page boys. Her wedding dress with its 17 foot 6 inch train had been designed by Lindka Cierach, who revealed that she had to veto some of the bride's bizarre dress requests, including decorative teddy bears and helicopters. Amongst the almost 2,000 guests was US First Lady Nancy Reagan, acting great Michael Caine, and showbiz stars Jackie Stewart, Barry Humphries, Joan Rivers, Billy Connolly and Elton John.

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Harry's control over the film, television and stage rights to Spare prevents anyone dramatising his controversial memoir
www.dailymail.co.uk,
July 19, 2024
EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Harry cannily controls the lucrative film, television and stage rights to his memoir. This prevents anyone from dramatising Spare and thus portraying Diana and Meghan in a way that does not concur with his views. Given that the book contains attacks on Charles, Camilla, William and Kate, any cinematic version has the potential to be more damaging than all his other 'truth bombs' put together. Look out!

This has not been repeated in any other edition of the book, as in the cack-handed mention of the King and the Princess of Wales. Scooby continues to skate on thin ice, with lawyers only too keen to pounce.

CRAIG BROWN: There really was nothing like Barry Humphries and his beloved character Dame Edna Everage
www.dailymail.co.uk,
December 13, 2023
I've been reading an anthology of poems by Barry Humphries that was created for his family's Christmas the year before last. The copy he gave me is one of my most treasured possessions. It's titled Poems I Like, and it's dedicated to MYSELF, without whom this lovely book would not have been published.' It consists mainly of work by unpopular poets like A.E. A houseman is a representative. Barry loved books: his library grew to 23,000 volumes. It was a reaction to his parents' aspirations throughout his life. He had to come home to discover that his mother had thrown all his old books out. 'You never know where they've been,' she said. She was a slave to debility and discretion, and she coveted normalcy above all else. 'Do you have to draw attention to yourself like that, Barry?'She'll ask.

She is the current queen of the $680 million family retail empire and is the image of her late grandfather, the able immigrant who created the Australian electronics behemoth that became a household name. Jasmine Lee is on the rise to become Bing Lee's face, taking over from her grandmother Yenda Lee and continuing the family's tradition of hard work and humour with comic ads to sell the firm's goods. Jasmine kicked off her new role on Radio 2GB with her father Lionel, who has frequently appeared in radio commercials as the 'dumb' son of his mother, Yenda's canny boss. Jasmine, the new star of Lionel and wife Lisa's four children, appears to have played a similar role with Lionel, with him in a similar fashion on Father's Day.
