He lived in London for four years and then studied privately with Maria Curcio, the last and favourite pupil of Artur Schnabel, before embarking on Paris to study with Russian pianist Yevgeny Malinin. In 1985, he received the Bronze Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Texas and second prize in the 1980 Paloma O'Shea Santander International Piano Competition in Spain. Man who broke both legs after drunkenly breaking into lido took life amid fears he wouldn't recover

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 14, 2022
When Barry Douglas, 44, and Claire Vickers were seriously injured at Aldershot Lido early in the morning last year after sneaking in early in the morning, he made national news. The pair were left with broken legs and feet after sliding into a metal barrier at the bottom of a flume tube, and they had to wait two hours to be rescued. Mr Douglas, a young man who hails from Dundee, was discovered hanged at his studio apartment in Aldershot, Hampshire, less than six months later. Despite signs of recovery, Mr Douglas took his own life amid concerns that his injuries would leave him homeless.
