Personal life
McNair was married five times and had no children at the time. Earl Wright, McNair's first husband, was married to from 1953 to 1955. McNair was married to Jack Rafferty from 1963 to 1971. Rick Manzie, who had been in 1965 during a separation period from Rafferty, was married to Rafferty in August 1972. (McNair was unemployed to Rafferty while Rick Manzie, who lived with Barbara in their Las Vegas home at 4265 South Bruce Street, 1969) McNair and Manzie were married until his death in December 1976. McNair married Ben Strahan in 1979, three years after Manzie's death. In 1986, McNair and Strahan divorced. She married Charles Blecka in 2006, to whom she was married at the time of her death. Curtis Knight's cousin, McNair, is the cousin of the singer.
McNair was arrested in October 1972 for being caught with a narcotic at the Playboy Club in New Jersey. McNair was charged with signing a box containing medications that was delivered to her house. McNair said she had no idea of the package's contents or who sent it. Rick Manzie, McNair's then-husband, was later charged with the murder, but McNair's charges against McNair were dropped in April 1973.
McNair's third husband, Chicago businessman Rick Manzie, was murdered in their Las Vegas mansion on December 15, 1976. Jimmy Fratianno, the Mafia chief, later stated in his book The Last Mafioso that Manzie was a Mafia employee who attempted to set up a contract on the life of a mob-linked tax attorney with whom he had a court fight.
