Lando Norris is in danger of appearing weak after backing down from his row with F1 rival and close friend Max Verstappen... the reigning champion has the advantage, writes JONATHAN McEVOY

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 5, 2024
POLE POSITION: Lando Norris was almost as timid on Thursday as he was coruscating after the Austrian Grand Prix, where he called Max Verstappen 'reckless, stupid and desperate' after their collision on 64 laps. The British driver, heading to Silverstone as a home-crowd favourite and with a good chance of victory for McLaren, overreacted in his patent disappointment to see his race end so miserably at Spielberg. And by backing down now, he is in danger of appearing weak. Would Ayrton Senna have gone into reverse? It is advantage Verstappen in this particular arm-wrestle.

Walk on the wild side! Lady Lola Bute dons a leopard-print bikini and biker boots as she and her boyfriend share a snack (and a cuddle) at Glastonbury

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 29, 2024
The socialite and model, 25, perfected festival dressing on Worthy Farm in Somerset as she picked up a snack for herself and her boyfriend, Parker Van Noord. She and Parker shared sweet moments (right) as they wrapped their arms around each other, beaming while doing so. Earlier this week, the couple posed up a storm in the French capital city as they attended the Vogue event.

Ooh la la! Aristocratic model and socialite Lady Lola Bute celebrates her 25th birthday in Paris while attending Vogue World party with her boyfriend

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 25, 2024
The shindig she threw ahead of her 25th birthday was an extravagant affair dubbed the most decadent Scots party of the year. However, Lady Lola Bute enjoyed a more sedate outing as she celebrated her actual birthday in Paris at the weekend with Dutch boyfriend Parker Van Noord, 25. The couple, who are both models, posed up a storm in a series of photos taken during their trip to the city of love.

Charles Leclerc secures pole position at the Monaco GP - but Max Verstappen is WAY BACK to end his record-breaking run

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 25, 2024
JONATHAN MCEVOY IN MONACO: Max Verstappen's record number of poles was brought to a halt by Charles Leclerc's blistering lap on his home streets of Monaco. After equalling Ayrton Senna's haul of eight poles in Imola last weekend, the world champion qualified a distant sixth and now has it all to do on the principality's tight and unforgiving circuit. He even clipped his Red Bull on the barriers at Saint Devote, the opening corner, and complained of a 'slippery' car. 'We knew we would struggle here,' said Verstappen, who is still 60 points clear of Ferrari's Leclerc. 'I thought I did OK given that. It's like driving a go-kart. There's no suspension and kept nearly putting it in the wall.

Max Verstappen secures EIGHTH successive pole to equal Ayrton Senna's record on same track that claimed the legendary Brazilian driver's life 30 years ago

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 18, 2024
JONATHAN McEVOY: Max Verstappen powered to a record-equalling eighth consecutive pole position, equalling Ayrton Senna on the Imola track that claimed the Brazilian legend's life 30 years ago. The McLarens were quick in a tight qualifying session for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix - both their young drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri put up a spirited fight - but nothing could stop the Dutchman, whose remorseless surge to a fourth consecutive world title continues apace. Senna, whose deeds are being celebrated at the venerable track this weekend, set the standard between his first pole in Jerez, Spain, in 1988, and his eighth in Phoenix, Arizona , in 1989. The McLaren star's record stood for 35 years, until today.

Inside the most debaucherous party of the year: RICHARD KAY reveals the inside story of aristocratic model Lady Lola Bute's 25th birthday party that caused an extraordinary social media storm

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 4, 2024
In the glossy magazine world they inhabit, aristocratic model Lady Lola Crichton-Stuart and her Dutch boyfriend Parker Van Noord look the ideal couple - frivolously glamorous, seemingly rich and oh so very beautiful. Their lives appear a constant round of parties and premieres, fashion shows and festivals, private yachts and ski resorts where they are photographed wrapped in each other's arms. Somehow there's always someone on hand to record these moments of decorative togetherness.

How Lady Lola Bute, 25, went sober after triad of tragedy that saw her friend overdose and her boyfriend kill himself - a year before her millionaire father's death

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 1, 2024
With her model good looks, A-list friends and flair for flirty fashion, at first glance Lady Lola Bute is your typical young aristocrat.  Described by Tatler as one of the nation's 'ultimate it-girls' Lola, 24, who is the daughter of the late John Crichton-Stuart, 7th Marquess of Bute and fashion designer Serena Bute, spends her summers in Ibiza, and is often snapped at celebrity parties. She recently wowed in an Alessandro Fran gown on the Vanity Fair Oscar's red carpet. But beneath the glitz and glamour is tremendous pain. Lola, who recently celebrated her early 25th birthday in a huge bash at her family seat Mount Stuart House, is completely sober, having witnessed first hand what can happen with a life of excess. In 2019, she lost her boyfriend Kai Schachter to suicide. Just six months later her best friend IIa Scheckter died of a suspected accidental overdose. A year later she was caught in scandal when she broken lockdown rules, and months after her father passed away from cancer. After her boyfriend died she sought help for 'unhealthy coping mechanisms'. From here, Lola cleaned up her act and set up an charity to help those struggling with mental health and addiction.

Bernie Ecclestone reveals he was told F1 would be completely CANCELLED after Ayrton Senna's death at Imola 30 years ago

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 30, 2024
Senna was F1's brightest star, a sporting giant and an icon in his native Brazil but on lap seven of the ill-fated San Marino Grand Prix - a weekend that had already claimed the life of Austrian Roland Ratzenberger - he ran off the road at 190mph and hit a concrete wall. He died instantly, aged 34. Wednesday will mark the 30th anniversary of Senna's death in Imola and Ecclestone (left), who ruled the sport for four decades, told the PA news agency: 'It was just a disastrous weekend.'

Inside Ayrton Senna's last hotel room - and to where the champion fell: 30 years after witnessing F1's most cursed race, OLIVER HOLT returns to Imola in this incredibly moving tribute

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 26, 2024
OLIVER HOLT IN IMOLA: There is nothing to suggest, from the outside, that there is anything different about Room 200 at Hotel Castello on the outskirts of the pretty little spa town of Castel San Pietro Terme, a few miles from Bologna. The bedroom door is as plain and unremarkable as every other door in the modest hotel. Its windows do not have a view to speak of, because there is nothing much to see out here on the edge of town. But inside, the suite of three rooms has been preserved - with the addition of a flat screen television - the way it was when Ayrton Senna, the man who many still believe to be the greatest racing driver ever, walked out of that door on the morning of May 1, 1994, and never returned.

F1 legend Ayrton Senna's famous sports car is up for sale on Auto Trader... but fans will have to pay £500,000 to own the iconic red Honda NSX

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 23, 2024
A rare sports car once owned by F1 legend Ayrton Senna has gone up for sale for a whopping £500,000. Senna raced in Formula One between 1984 and and 1994, winning three world championships with McLaren in 1988, 1990 and 1991.  The Honda NSX, of which only a handful of models are currently in existence, goes up for sale nearly 30 years after Senna tragically lost his life at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix at the Imola Circuit.

Sky Sports creates the ultimate Formula 1 track on the planet: Sky Sports' legendary Eau Rouge de Spa and Circuit of the Americas' uphill climb are among the most spectacular Formula One tracks on the planet

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 26, 2024
Sky Sports interviewed fans about their aspiration F1 track and brought it to life in images and an animation ahead of the new season. The 3.7-mile-long circuit includes elements from several Grand Prix series, including the Suzuka ferris wheel in Japan, Eau Rouge of Spa in Belgium, the Hairpin Hotel in Monaco, and the uphill climb at Circuit of the Americas. Silverstone is incorporated in the pouring rain, with the venerable RAF Red Arrows flying overhead to add some colour to a typical British summer day.

Lewis Hamilton goes double-leather in a bright green Ayrton Senna tribute outfit to honour the Formula One icon at his home Grand Prix in Brazil

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 2, 2023
Hamilton's jacket had a photograph of Senna sporting a helmet with his name in italics underneath. Senna died in 1994 after suffering a car accident in Imola, Italy, during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. Hamilton has previously described him as "the guy who inspired me as a child."

Is Jim Clark the greatest Formula One driver of all-time?

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 9, 2023
ROB ROBERTSON: The greatest driver of all-time? Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher's appeal, as well as Ayrton Senna and Manuel Fangio, will be reaffirmed on Sunday as his exploits were remembered during the British Grand Prix at Silverstone will be emphasized. It's been 60 years since Jim Clark first won the British Grand Prix, the culmination of a season that saw him win in Belgium, Holland, France, and the United Kingdom - all back-to-back, as well as Italy, Mexico, and South Africa. He came second in Germany and third in the United States, the only Grand Prix in which he did not take part was the opener in Monaco, where he had to abandon while leading on the 78th lap due to gear-box failure.

OLIVER HOLT: Ben Stokes is a great British sportsman, but he is also brutal

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 3, 2023
OLIVER HOLT: There are rare, valuable moments in sport in which one of the best ones is operating on a different plane. Sport can often be fleeting because it is a blur of movement and intensity. The brilliant burst of genius is often over before you know what you've seen. But those times are all intoxicating for that. The first time I saw it live? In 1993, Ayrton Senna tore through the field in an inferior McLaren, making it dance through the rain to bring one of the best laps in Formula One history. I've been lucky. Shane Warne ripping into the England batting line-up in the Second Test at Adelaide in December 2006, and Roger Federer winning his first Wimbledon title by dismantling Mark Philippoussis in 2003 and Lionel Messi destroying Manchester United in the 2011 Champions League final at Wembley, with Shane Warne ripping into the England batting line-up. Ben Stokes' innings (pictured) of 155 at Lord's on Sunday belongs to the company.

Max Verstappen is one of Formula One's greatest racers, according to JONATHAN McEVOY

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 20, 2023
JONATHAN McEVOY: It's not a mistake or one-eyed view when Christian Horner, his Red Bull chairman, says Verstappen can be talked about in the same breath as a hero from Ayrton Senna, who equalled in Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix wins. He has reached the figure at a much younger age than the Brazilian maestro, 25 years old to 33, but it has taken him longer to do so, 171 versus 161.

Max Verstappen wins the Canadian Grand Prix ahead of Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 18, 2023
MCEVOY: Not even a bird on track could halt Max Verstappen's name from entering Formula One lore with the lights-to-flag victory at the Canadian Grand Prix, which moved him ahead of Ayrton Senna on 41 career victories. Such was his ferociety when the sun finally broke out across a rainy weekend in Montreal that was mostly about losing control - the avian jaywalker apart - was purely fear of losing control. He was raving about his tyres that his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase, nicknamed GP, followed the doctor's orders. We've got the message.' ' Get your head down.'

Despite closing in on Ayrton Senna's records, Max Verstappen says he'never' looks at figures

www.dailymail.co.uk, June 16, 2023
It's amazing to think that the man who is near nailed-on certainty to beat Ayrton Senna's total wins, 41, was not even alive when the great Brazilian died at Imola. Max Verstappen was born on the first day of May 1994, but his father, Jostappen, joined Benetton as a teammate to Michael Schumacher. However, there is a video of Senna driving, a film about him, and an enduring aura that keeps his fame kicking even among a younger group. Verstappen said, 'I never take a look at the numbers before the Canadian Grand Prix,' said Verstappen. However, I would not have guessed being in this industry as a child.'

Is it possible to determine what this memorabilia is?

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 21, 2023
For the first time next month, the remains of a lifesaving piece of equipment will be on display in Madrid. Fans of one of sports' most exciting times in history, when the protective device was launched three years ago. Visitors to the new official exhibit, which will open in the Spanish capital in March before heading around the world, will be able to view the remarkable piece of memorabilia, which is now almost unrecognizable after being called into action in Bahrain.

Oscar Piastri, a former Williams and Ferrari manager, sends an alert to Aussie young guns

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 31, 2023
According to former Williams and Ferrari team manager Peter Windsor, Australian young gun Oscar Piastry (pictured left) must hit the ground running when he makes his McLaren debut in March. In the meantime, Australian colleague Daniel Ricciardo has urged Piastri to absorb as much data as he can and 'take it by race.'

This line was stunning. It was a monument to the Pele's game of joy

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 2, 2023
OLIVER HOLT IN SANTOS: A few months ago, it seemed that most of Britain was gathered patiently on London's streets to pay their respects to the Queen. Brazil turned its attention to Vila Belmiro, a stadium in Santos' port city, where the man enshrined for many of us as the best footballer there has ever been, on Monday. This queue was a beautiful thing. It was a football queue. It was a token of Pele's legacy of joy in the game. People gathered to mourn him and attend what had been styled as a public wake for him ahead of his funeral on Tuesday, where a cortege would wind through the streets and past his mother's house before a private, family gathering, but it seemed as if they had come to celebrate everything that football means to them.

Erling Haaland could be on the brink of losing Pele and admiring what Messi did in Qatar

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 31, 2022
OLIVER HOLT: A brilliant and alluring light that makes everyone in the orbit feel empowered by its presence is thrown out by its presence. I spent a few years with Michael Jordan in the Chicago Bulls' locker room before a regular season game against the Bucks in Milwaukee, and I'm still remembering him as a power of nature even on a rehabilitation couch. It was amazing to be in the Lusail Stadium on the northern outskirts of Doha a fortnight ago to see Lionel Messi's genius leading Argentina to victory over France in the World Cup final. Messi's talent seemed to linger over the arena that night, so you could picture yourself as an unstoppable power. We want to acclaim greatness so that we can be, albeit tenuously, connected with it. So that we can bask in its glamor. Here is a snapshot of me with Pele. Here's a peek at my Michael Jordan tale. This was the first time I met Tiger Woods. Have I told you I bumped into Ayrton Senna once in the Duty Free shop at Heathrow? We are always on the lookout for greatness. We need new outbreaks of it.
