Atticus Matthew Cowper Ross (born 16 January 1968) is an English musician, songwriter, record producer, and audio engineer.
Along with Trent Reznor, Ross won the Academy Award for Best Original Score for The Social Network soundtrack in 2010.
In 2013, the pair won a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media for their soundtrack to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Ross has worked with Reznor's band Nine Inch Nails since 2005, and became an official member of the band in 2016.
Early life
Atticus Matthew Cowper Ross was born in the Ladbroke Grove area of London on 16 January 1968, the son of Roxana Lampson and Ian Ross. His father was a founder of Radio Caroline. He has five siblings, including fashion model Liberty Ross and fellow musician Leopold Ross. His maternal grandfather was diplomat Miles Lampson, 1st Baron Killearn, his great-grandfather was Italian pathologist and bacteriologist Aldo Castellani, and his uncle is British-American journalist Charles Glass. Ross was educated at Eton College, where he was a few years below future UK Prime Ministers David Cameron and Boris Johnson, and later at the Courtauld Institute of Art.

Career
Ross came to prominence in the mid-1990s as a programmer for Tim Simenon's Bomb the Bass during the period of Unknown Territory and Clear. With Simenon, he worked on a variety of production and remix projects, as well as establishing a collaborative relationship with Barry Adamson. He arranged The Negro Inside Me and Oedipus Schmoedipus Schmoedipus Schmoedipus, and produced As Above So Below before forming his own band, 12 Rounds, with his partner Claudia Sarne and Adam Holden. Jitterjuice and My Big Hero are two of the artists' albums. Trent Reznor's third full length album was released, but it was never finished. On the band's website, three songs from the album have since been released.
Ross immigrated to the United States in 2000, and by 2002, he was working with Reznor on his side's Tapeworm project. He has been recognized as a producer and/or programmer on the Nine Inch Nails albums With Teeth, Year Zero, Ghosts I–IV (on which he was a co-writer), and Hesitation Marks, he has been credited as a producer and/or programmer. He has worked with Reznor in various capacities, including stints with Saul Williams and Zack de la Rocha, and they co-produced tracks for a reformed Jane's Addiction with Alan Moulder in 2009.
Two co-productions with Joe Barn, the Loverman EP Human Nurture, and Coheed and Cambria's Year of the Black Rainbow, as well as Korn's albums. He has also produced tracks or produced remixes for such as Grace Jones, Perry Farrell, and Telepathe. He appeared in a cryptic video and was revealed as a member of a mystery project that would later be titled How to Destroy Angels, a partnership between Reznor and his wife Mariqueen Maandig. Ross' new single-player story campaign mode, 'The Journey,' was launched in 2016. He co-produced and co-wrote one track on Jehny Beth's To Love Is To Live in 2020. Ross and Reznor co-wrote Halsey's album If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power, 2021.
Ross' involvement in film music began in 2004 when he co-starred the Hughes Brothers' television series Touching Evil with his wife Claudia Sarne and brother Leopold Ross. Allen Hughes' vignette in the film New York, I Love You, and Ross' first feature film, The Book of Eli (2010), has since provided music for two other Hughes Brothers projects: Allen Hughes' vignette in the film New York, I Love You, and Ross' first feature film, The Book of Eli (2010). On December 12, 2010, Reprise Records announced the latter's score. It received a prize at the BMI Awards and was named "Discovery of the Year" at the 2010 World Soundtrack Awards.
Reznor and Ross were cast members of David Fincher's latest film The Social Network, which premiered on July 1, 2010. The film's soundtrack was announced on September 28, 2010, and it was highly praised. They received the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score on January 16, 2011 for their contribution to The Social Network. The Academy of Best Original Score for The Social Network was given on February 27 by The Social Network. Ross and Reznor appeared on the soundtrack to Fincher's 2011 film Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. With their Girl With the Dragon Tattoo soundtrack, the pair received the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media in 2013.
Ross had been scheduled to work on the 2013 samurai epic 47 Ronin, but Javier Navarrete took his place shortly. Ross and Reznor collaborated with Fincher to film their 2014 film Gone Girl. Ross and Reznor, composer Gustavo Santaolalla, and the band Mogwai all collaborated to produce the score to the documentary film Before the Flood in 2016.
Ross, Reznor, Maandig, Joey Castillo, and Alessandro Cortini appeared in Episode 8 of Twin Peaks: The Return on Showtime, a new live version of the song "She's Gone Away" which previously appeared on Nine Inch Nails' "Not the Real Events" in June 2017.
