Borussia Dortmund 7-1 Celtic: A different level of ineptitude that showed Rodgers is wildly off the mark
www.dailymail.co.uk,
October 2, 2024
For long enough, Celtic's defensive record on the road in the Champions League has made the prospect of picking up points feel about as likely as winning the lottery without first buying a ticket. Brendan Rodgers' men conceded 10 times in three away games in their group last year, one more than they shipped on the road under Ange Postecoglou the previous season. Each time you venture into these highly intimidating arenas, you've got a mountain to climb. Give your opponent three goals of a start and you're starting the ascent with your laces tied together and a blindfold on.
McGregor admits sorry Celtic have a lot to learn following Champions League demolition in Dortmund
www.dailymail.co.uk,

Callum McGregor last night admitted Celtic have a lot to think about after suffering another European hammering on the road at the hands of Borussia Dortmund.
It was the third time they have lost seven goals in the Champions League under Brendan Rodgers, following heavy defeats to Barcelona and PSG during his first spell in charge. Last season, Rodgers also presided over a 6-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid.
Behind after seven minutes in Germany last night when Emre Can converted a penalty, the visitors drew level when Daizen Maeda bundled home Arne Engels' cross two minutes later.
It's SEVEN and hell for hapless Celtic as Dortmund joins list of recent European humiliations

ADD Dortmund to Paris, Barcelona and Madrid on the growing list of Celtic's Champions League crime scenes.
Confronted by the yellow wall of the Signal Iduna Park, Scotland's champions crumbled and collapsed under the relentless pressure of last season's beaten finalists. When Spanish referee Jose Maria Sanchez blew the final whistle, it felt like an act of mercy.
Brendan Rodgers described this as an acid test for his team and, in the cold light of day, they failed on every conceivable level. Had the old BBC final score vidiprinter still been in use, they'd have repeated the scoreline in words to emphasise just how outclassed Celtic were in every department.
Brendan Rodgers hails 'sensational' Celtic after five-goal thrashing of Slovan Bratislava

Brendan Rodgers hailed a 'sensational' display as Celtic opened their Champions League campaign by thrashing Slovan Bratislava.
Winning their first game at this stage in the tournament for the first time in 13 attempts, the Scottish champions also scored five goals in the competition for the first time.
New £11million record signing Arne Engels was the star man with an assist and a goal as Rodgers' side vindicated their pre-match status as bookmakers' favourites with a performance of pace, power and clinical finishing.
Celtic 5-1 Slovan Bratislava: Rodgers was right... his team are more ready than ever for the Champions League
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 18, 2024
Contesting their first Champions League game at this stage in their history, Slovan Bratislava were rated 10/1 rank outsiders by the bookies before a ball was kicked.
Celtic 's pre-match price of 1/5 odds-on favourites, meanwhile, felt like a bold expression of faith in a team with just one home win in the Champions League in the last 10 years. A side who hadn't won their opening game against the European elite in the last 12 torturous attempts.
Turns out there's a reason why the men in camel coats drive bigger cars than everyone else. Like Brendan Rodgers , they just might know what they're doing.
Record signing Arne Engels proves that the price was right as Celtic get off to a Champions League flyer with 5-1 win over Slovan Bratislava

When you break your transfer record once over a summer, it's seen as a statement of intent. If it happens a second time, you mean serious business.
With all due respect to the flotsam and jetsam of the Scottish Premiership, Celtic did not lavish £9.5million on Adam Idah and £11m on Arne Engels merely to continue their domination of the domestic game.
A radical departure from the kind of transfer tombola the club indulged in 12 months previously, the acquisition of the pair was done to make an appreciable impact on the Champions League .
Scales believes Celtic have what it takes to claim playoff spot in new Champions League format

Liam Scales believes Celtic have what it takes to secure a place in the Champions League play-offs.
Brendan Rodgers ' side open with a home game against competition new boys Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday night.
Having also been handed games against Young Boys, Club Brugge and Dinamo Zagreb, Scales already has his eyes on one of the play-off places guaranteed for teams finishing between ninth and 24th in a new 36-team group - with the winners going into the last 16.
Rodgers ready to take the game to Bratislava as Celtic look to make a flying start in Europe
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 14, 2024
Brendan Rodgers is confident Celtic can make an impact in this year's Champions League - and has vowed to go all guns blazing against Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday night.
Celtic made it five wins from five at the start of the new season courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Hearts at Parkhead yesterday afternoon.
Signed for a club record fee of £11million last month, Belgian midfielder Arne Engels marked his first start for his new club with a goal, with fellow new recruit Luke McCowan sealing the three points late in the game.
ANALYSIS: Clement told fans 'life isn't like PlayStation' and there is no quick fix at Rangers ... but if he doesn't take control of this team's destiny it will be GAME OVER
www.dailymail.co.uk,

For Phillippe Clement, there was an element of risk attached to holding a Q&A session with Rangers supporters at Edmiston House on Tuesday night. Only a week previously, he had become embroiled in a heated exchange with angry fans who had confronted him after Rangers' 3-0 defeat at Celtic Park. Allowing fans an open floor to question the Rangers manager was a fairly bold move after that kind of result and, had the event gone wrong, it would only have fanned the flames.
WE WERE ELECTRIC! Rodgers hails high-voltage performance from Celtic as Rangers are blown away
www.dailymail.co.uk,
September 1, 2024
Brendan Rodgers praised Celtic for generating an 'electric' performance of attacking football in their 3-0 win over Rangers. Goals from Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi and captain Callum McGregor saw the champions extend their lead over Philippe Clement's side to five points, as they drew level with Aberdeen at the summit of the Premiership. Rodgers insists his team are only just getting started after scoring three goals, having an early strike disallowed after a VAR review, and handing second-half debuts to £11million record signing Arne Engels and former Dundee midfielder Luke McCowan.

STEPHEN MCGOWAN AT CELTIC PARK: With 30 minutes to play of this latest one-sided win over their oldest rivals Celtic introduced their new £11million signing Arne Engels for a late cameo. Talk about rubbing it in. One of a number of expensive signings in the summer window, Rangers can only dream of spending £30million plus in a transfer window these days. The table has turned and it's not just a growing financial chasm which divides these two clubs now. The records now show that Celtic have lost just one of their last 13 derbies. That was an end-of-season dead rubber at Ibrox in May 2023, with the league already won.
Celtic complete £18m spending spree with club-record deal for Engels following arrival of Trusty... and late swoop for Dundee skipper McCowan
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 30, 2024
Celtic last night splashed £18million to land Arne Engels, Auston Trusty and Luke McCowan in a triple deadline day swoop.
The Parkhead club broke their transfer record to land Engels for £11m from Augsburg, with a further £6m spent to take Trusty from Sheffield United.
This was followed late last night by the £1m signing of Dundee captain McCowan after Hibs had four bids for the player rejected.
Celtic close in on club-record £11m deal for Belgian midfielder Engels
www.dailymail.co.uk,
August 29, 2024
Celtic are poised to break their club transfer record after agreeing an £11million deal to sign Belgian midfielder Arne Engels from Augsburg.
The Parkhead side were also pushing ahead with a deadline-busting move to sign Sheffield United centre-back Auston Trusty in a deal which could be worth up to £6m.
With the window set to close tonight, the double swoop for Engels and Trusty comes after Celtic learned their Champions League fate in yesterday's draw.
