There was no internet - or none to really speak of - and certainly no social media. People had fun, fell in love, fought, fell out in the real world, not via a screen.

The BBC has been chastised for broadcasting episodes of The Thick of It starring convicted child murderer Chris Langham (left on camera) on iPlayer. Langham, 74, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his hard drive, which contained Level Five abuse, which was the most severe on the scale. The decision to bring the disgraced actor's face back on film comes at a time when the Beeb is being scrutinized over its handling of the Huw Edwards affair, after the host was revealed as being at the center of a pending sex scandal involving his wife. Armando Iannucci, the writer and producer of The Thick of It, announced that the show was back to screens, tweeting (inset): "Oh, by the way, every episode of The Thick Of It's been restored on BBC iPlayer."

CHRISTOPHER STEVENS: Want a royal grand design? To your guttering, add gargoyles

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 1, 2022
CHRISTOPHER STEVENS: Bloody Nora, Prince of Wales, said the Prince of Wales. It was the only appropriate response, whether royal or not. Charles was filming in Dumfries House in the Scottish Lowlands as part of a £45 million consortium he assembled to save the stately home and its unique collection of Chippendale furniture for the nation. As his aspirations for the venture swelled, the future king imagined a science and technology center in the 2,000-acre grounds, an adventure complex, a walled garden, and a belvedere, or ornate look-out tower, commanding the magnificent views. Charles, a man without a suburban bone in his body, had no intention of seeing bog-standard guttering on his belvedere. He wanted gargoyles.

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: How does the Princess of Wales feel about the King banning foie gras from palace menus? Kate's delicacy, which was created by force-feeding geese, was unknowingly revealed when she ordered it for lunch at Koffmann's restaurant in Knightsbridge just weeks before she wed William. Since Charles ordered his chefs to stop purchasing foie gras in 2008, he has campaigned against foie gras. Kate had been lunching with Camilla, who judiciously maintained marital harmony by opting for rabbits.
