Anita Morris Life

Anita Rose Morris (March 14, 1943 – March 2, 1994) was an American actress, singer, and dancer.

Morris began her acting in a variety of films, including Jesus Christ Superstar (1984), Absolute Beginners (1986), and Aria (1987), 18 Again! (1988), Bloodhounds of Broadway (1989), A Sinful Life (1989).

She appeared in two television series in the 1980s: NBC prime time soap opera Berrenger's (1985) and Fox sitcom Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1987).

Life and death

Morris was born in Durham, North Carolina, to Eloise Chappell, who was active in theatrical production, and James Badgett Morris, a doctor. She married James Badge Dale in 1973 and had a son, James Badge Dale, who began performing in 1980. She contracted ovarian cancer in 1980 and was given just five years to live. She lived for another 14 years before her death on March 2, 1994, and she was buried in Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, North Carolina.

Carol Dodsworth, the mistress to Danny DeVito in Ruthless People, was Morris' most well-known film role; her most notable stage role was her sensuous appearance in the musical Nine opposite Raul Julia; her most prominent film role was as Susan Dodsworth, the mistress to Danny DeVito. Although she had been nominated for a Best Featured Actress Tony Award as Carla, she lost to Liliane Montevecchi, who was also in Nine. Jane Krakowski won the Tony Award in the same category as Morris 21 years ago, when she was still playing Carla in a revival with Antonio Banderas. "A Call from the Vatican" was her signature number in Nine, as well as "Simple" later in act two. In 1982, she was supposed to appear at the Tony Awards, but television censors refused to reveal her outfit. Her stage appearances began in the American Mime Theatre and led her to Broadway for Nine, Jesus Christ Superstar, Seesaw, The Magic Show (cast album and DVD), Sugar Babies (replacement for Ann Jillian's "Soubrette") and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
