Angela Rippon has revealed her former Strictly Come Dancing partner Kai Widdrington refused to let all of their rehearsals be filmed in order to maintain secrecy over their first routine. The broadcaster, 79, appeared on the BBC show last year, with her and Kai, 29, making it all the way to Blackpool Week, before being eliminated. The Latin and ballroom competition returned to screens at the weekend, amid a year of major scandals and a recent shock NTA win upon its 20th anniversary.

Strictly Come Dancing fans have declared they know the 'real reason' why Kai Widdrington was not paired with a celebrity partner this year. It was revealed during last nights launch show that the dancer - who was paired with Angela Rippon for the 2023 run and made it to Blackpool - will be 'benched'. Also missing out on a celebrity pairing and taking part in just the group numbers will be professional dancers Carlos Gu and Lauren Oakley.

Kai Widdrington has broken his silence after being axed from the main show line up for the 20th anniversary series of Strictly.  The professional dancer, who made it all the way to Blackpool last year with his partner Angela Rippon, has opened up about his disappointment to not be part of a celebrity pairing.  Speaking to the Daily Star, Kai explained: 'Everyone wants to get a celebrity. Unfortunately, it wasn't my time this series. Two boys couldn't have one this series and sadly I am one of them.'

Dancing On Ice skater Vanessa Bauer has praised the ITV show's duty of care to celebrities, following the current Strictly misconduct scandal. The professional skater, 28, revealed that in contrast to the BBC programme, their training sessions are already attended by show staff. Moira Stuart is believed to have fallen sick during her friend Angela Rippon's birthday party, and an ambulance rushed to her assistance on Monday night. After the newsreader collapsed while enjoying the anniversary at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane, London, the birthday party was apparently brought to a halt. Moira, 74, was apparently assisted by her former coworkers, including Louise Minchin and Michael Buerk, who rushed to her aid following the 'funny turn.'
